NWA Cyberspace presents Superbrawl Saturday IV
Date:
1/21/2006
From: Kearny, NJ

It appears this is the most attended Cyberspace show thus far in their existence with a reported 400 or so fans. It looks as if the gym is filled pretty well compared to their other shows where the bleachers are essentially empty.

Opening Contest: Crusier-X Rumble Battle Royal: I’m not going to go in-depth for a battle royal. The match started off with the SAT’s being forced to fight each other at the start. They tried to eliminate each other briefly, and then decide to work together waiting for the next entrant. Grim Reefer ended up being the next guy out and was promptly double teamed by the SAT’s. Damien Dragon is the next guy out and cleans house until a 3D by SAT stopped his momentum. Xavier is the fifth entrant and eliminated Dragon for the first elimination. Papadon is the sixth entrant of the match. Dan Barry is the seventh entrant. Quiet Storm is the eighth entrant. Xavier is being triple teamed by Storm and the SAT. Kid Kamikaze is the ninth entrant as Dan Barry is eliminated. Crowbar is the tenth entrant, and got a good pop. Ken Scampi is the eleventh entrant for the battle royal. Jose accidentally eliminated Joel, Xavier tosses Jose, but Xavier is thrown out as well. Mike Tobin is the final entrant. Crowbar tosses Scampi out of the ring. Papadon backdrops Kamikaze to the floor. Tobin eliminates Crowbar, which disappoints the crowd. Reefer, Papadon, Storm and Tobin are the final four until Tobin tosses Papadon over the top to the floor. Tobin and Papadon are in an alliance. Tobin ends up being eliminated while talking to Papadon. John Shane comes out and tries to keep the peace. Reefer almost pins Storm with an inside cradle as it is now a singles match. Reefer gets another rollup on Storm for a two count. Reefer locks in a tilt a whirl Crossface, but Storm refuses to give up. Storm manages to reach the ropes to break the hold. Storm low blows Reefer and spikes Reefer with a brainbuster for a near fall. Reefer backdrops Storm to the floor, but he can’t win that way. Storm returns to the match and hits the Storm Cradle Driver for the win. (*1/2. Quiet Storm will now earn a title match against Elix Skipper at the next show, but that wouldn’t happen. Reefer is a popular act with the Cyberspace crowd and seemed like a logical choice to win. Hell, Crowbar getting a win would have been good, too. Instead, they put over a guy who hasn’t been in Cyberspace and the title match with Skipper doesn’t even happen anyway. For the most part, it’s your typical battle royal.)

Second Contest: Kip James vs. Rodney Mack: Mack backs James into a corner, but James counters to gain control before breaking free cleanly. James gains control with a wrist lock for a few moments. Mack counters with a forearm to the back, but James rams Mack into the corner face first followed by jabs. James boots a charging Mack in the corner and delivers an elbow strike to the arm. James drives Mack into the corner and charges the corner hitting a splash. James tries for the Fame-Asser, but Jazz causes a distraction. James scares her off and hits the Fame-Asser anyway. Jazz gets in the ring, but Sunny enters and takes Jazz down for a catfight. James is distracted and Mack manages to deliver a DDT for the win. (*. I’m honestly surprised that Kip would do the job here as I feel like TNA tends to protect their talents on indie shows. It may help that TNA seems to have a partnership with Cyberspace on some level. Anyway, the match is not good, at all.)

John Shane comes out to grab a microphone and insults Sunny for not being effective, similar to Joe Torre for the Yankees. Shane reminds Kip that Sunny got gored by Rhino last show and it could happen tonight if she’s not careful. Shane insults Sunny saying that she only has looks to offer to the business and it looks like she forgot those, too.

Backstage, NWA Cyberspace Internet Champion Josh Daniels cuts a promo saying that he’s had to work his way up throughout his career. Daniels believes he’s raised the prestige of the title and tonight will be no different against Bobby Roode. Daniels says he’s representing USA against Canada that Roode represents. Daniels tries for the dragon suplex, but Roode avoids it and is knocked to the floor. Daniels goes to the floor and interacts with Mistress Asia. Roode low blows Daniels with the Canadian flag on a hockey stick to cause a disqualification. Roode brings Daniels into the ring and delivers another shot with the stick to stand tall. Roode drapes the flag over Daniels body. (**. A decent match, but the finish is likely meaning these two will meet again. It sure feels as if Roode is destined to win the title as he’s being promoted as a singles force in Cyberspace. Daniels is a good talent and has been a good champion thus far.)

Fourth Contest: Ariel, Talia & Traci Brooks vs. NWA Cyberspace Women’s Champion Jazz, Cindy Rogers & ODB in an elimination match: Rogers and Talia kickoff the six women tag match. Rogers is taken down to the mat by Talia with an arm bar. Talia gets a rollup on Rogers for a two count. Rogers backslides Talia for a two count. ODB clubs away on Traci before tagging in Rogers. Traci comes off the ropes to hit a double crossbody. Rogers stops Traci with a jawbreaker and tries for an airplane spin, but ODB got knocked down. Brooks clotheslines Rogers to pickup another three count to eliminate Rogers.

Traci and ODB are the final two. Brooks shoulder blocks ODB followed by a tilt a whirl head scissors for a near fall. ODB knee lifts Brooks and sends Brooks into the corner. Brooks kicks ODB and tries for a sunset flip, but ODB holds onto the ropes and kneels down to pin Brooks to win the match. (*. Well, I thought for a second that Traci was going to pull off the upset of being down 3-1, but I’m glad they kept it to her failing short. Despite the loss, Traci probably should get a title shot against Jazz since she pinned the champ. The match didn’t have much entertainment value for me, but they kept a good pace to make it feel like it went by faster.)

Fifth Contest: NWA Cyberspace Tag Team Champions All Money Is Legal (Murda & Pusha) vs. Archadia & Amazing Red: Archadia and Pusha kickoff the tag title match with Pusha getting a waist lock for a moment. Jose nails Red with a championship to the face. Joel takes Red’s picture while laid out on the floor. Pusha kicks Archadia from the apron and AMIL hit a Gory Special/neckbreaker combo to pickup the win. (**1/2. A solid tag match, but the SAT heel work on the floor stood out a bit more than the actual tag match. The action was entertaining for what it was, the main point seemed to be getting the SAT over as heels, which they’re doing a good job at. I think this sets up a three way tag match and I’m interested in seeing how that plays out.) After the match, Archadia takes the SAT out with a somersault dive to the floor. All six men are brawling on the floor.

A good match, but commentary overly stated this was a MOTY contender. I mean, it’s the best match on the card to this point, but it’s not an all-time classic bout by any means. I’d like to see a rematch between these two.)

After the match, Kruel attacks Bentley until Traci Brooks comes out to make the save. Kruel slams Brooks and tries to put Kruel Intentions on her, but Kazarian runs into the ring to make the save. (*1/2. The crowd was lifeless for this and I don’t think I blame them. Bentley working a babyface role doesn’t come across well. Kruel works well as a heel and his offense looked good. Bentley is better served to be a heel, as well, though.)

Backstage, Rhino cuts a promo saying that he’s ready for the main event as he’s been in a Monster’s Ball match before. Rhino says that he’s leaving as champion tonight.

Abyss hits the Black Hole Slam and pins Rhino for the win. (*1/2. Obviously they’re not going to do a fire spot, but they could have at least given the crowd a table spot they were begging for. It’s a tame hardcore match and exactly you’d expect in a house show environment. I feel like every time I see these two scheduled to wrestle on a wrestling show I expect something much better to happen and it just doesn’t deliver outside of TNA.)

Rodney Mack comes out and issues a challenge to Abyss for the NWA Cyberspace Heavyweight Championship. Abyss appears to accept the challenge. Billy Firehawk comes down to ringside from commentary and books the title match for the Cyberspace show in March.

However, before the March show, several TNA talents including Abyss departed from Cybersapce due to lack of payment for their performances. Thus, the match will never happen and the Cyberspace Championships is vacated.

Final Thoughts:
A disappointing show for Cyberspace especially since they drew their best crowd and couldn’t deliver an entertaining show. I am interested in the three way tag feud between AMIL/SAT & Red/Archadia. I think they could have a fun match when the time comes. Abyss/Mack isn’t an appealing main event, so with Abyss dropping out it will be interesting to see where they pivot to. I’d imagine Rhino could be the champion moving forward. This show gets a thumbs down, though.
