Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Vince McMahon, Jim Duggan, Hillbilly Jim, Bobby Heenan & Mr. Perfect are on the panel. Heenan and Perfect don’t understand why Randy Savage is getting a musical tribute (as shown on Challenge) and Flair isn’t. McMahon reminds Heenan it’s because Savage is the champion.

Tornado puts a sleeper on Kato, but doesn’t get a submission. Kato breaks free with a jawbreaker. Tornado nails Kato with a discus punch to win the match. (1/2*. Despite having zero momentum, Tornado continues to be quite popular with the fans.)
3.) WWF Update hosted by Mean Gene focuses on The Mountie. Mountie’s zapper is called the “The Great American Scream Machine”, apparently. Jack Tunney is issuing heavy fines for Mountie using the zapper. Mountie and Jimmy Hart share comments. Mountie tells Sgt. Slaughter to stay out of his way.
4.) The panel talks about the Mountie. McMahon notes that Mr. Perfect and Mountie are good friends and there is a family relation, but Perfect denies it. Perfect says they are both good singers and wrestlers. Perfect says that Mountie is cool and Slaughter would agree with how his hair is always standing up whenever Mountie is around.
5.) Mean Gene conducted a podium interview with Tatanka to talk about Tatanka’s issues with Rick Martel. Gene goes over the issues over the past several months, which includes Martel blinding Tatanka with Arrogance. Tatanka says that for hundreds of years his people lived in peace. Tatanka has come across a man who doesn’t respect his heritage. Tatanka notes that Martel stole his scared eagle feathers. Tatanka tells us that feathers are earned through great honor and bravery both of which Martel doesn’t have. Tatanka assures that Martel will understand the word revenge.
6.) Nasty Boys won their squash match following a top rope elbow drop by Jerry Sags.
7.) Beau and Owen kickoff the tag match with Beau going to the corner and Owen calls Beau a chicken. Owen slaps Beau across the face and hits an arm drag to gain arm control on the mat. Owen wraps Beau’s arm over the top rope, but is forced to let go since it’s not legal. Beau briefly gets arm control and elbows Owen to gain momentum followed by strikes. Beau misses an axe handle and Owen dropkicks Beau followed by an arm drag. Beau bails to the floor to regroup. Owen scares Beau into his corner while teasing a strike. Blake tags into the match and struts to taunt the crowd. Blake slaps Koko and runs around the ring allowing Beau to cheap shot Owen. Owen fights back with a split legged arm drag. Blake headbutts Owen to stop the momentum. Blake misses a splash in the corner and Owen hits a monkey flip. Koko jumps into the ring and plays to the crowd. Koko headbutts Blake and teases a strike, but Blake goes to the apron to avoid the strike. Koko slingshots Blake into the ring from the apron and delivers a leg drop to the inner leg. Blake sends Koko into the ropes, but Beau delivers a knee strike from the apron. Blake drives Koko down with a backbreaker. Beau tags into the match and axe handles Koko over the back followed by more strikes and a splash onto Koko’s back.
Beau sends Koko hard into the corner and taunts the crowd. Beau stomps on Koko and locks in a bearhug. Koko tries to fight free, but is knocked down with a right hand. Koko hits a middle rope crossbody, but Beau kicks out before a count can be made. Blake tags into the match and axe handles Koko over the back. Blake puts another bearhug on Koko. Beau sends Koko into the corner a few times and goes back to a bearhug. Koko tries to fight back with strikes, but Beau stops Koko leading to a double clothesline and both men are down. Blake and Owen get tagged into the match with Owen hitting dropkicks. Owen rams the Beverly’s into each other. Owen rams Blake into the corner several times face first. Owen hits a bulldog out of the corner on Blake, but Beau makes the save. All four men are i the ring. Owen gets a rollup on Blake, but Beau uses the metal scroll to hit Owen. Koko is beaten down by the Beverly’s. Koko clotheslines Blake while Owen brawls with Blake on the floor. Blake hits the ring post on a missed clothesline. (*1/2. Kind of a disappointment for a match as I was hoping for High Energy to be able to showcase their aerial ability a but more, but this was rather grounded. The cheap finish isn’t a surprise as you’re not going to have the Beverly’s do a clean job on TV when they’re feuding with LOD on the house show run. However, killing High Energy’s momentum with a loss wouldn’t be all that smart too. So, probably don’t book the match at that point.)
8.) The panel talk about Papa Shango and the spell he has used on Ultimate Warrior. McMahon scares Heenan and Heenan says that Shango spooks people out. Heenan doesn’t like the black magic stuff, but puts over Shango as his favorite athlete. Duggan repeats voodoo several times to startle Heenan some more.
9.) Martel controls Virgil with a top wrist lock in the opening moment of the match. Virgil counters with a hammerlock, but Martel takes Virgil down and does a cartwheel to avoid a monkey flip. Martel taunts Virgil by doing some jumping jacks. Martel knee lifts Virgil several times, but Virgil sends Martel into the ropes where Martel does another cartwheel. Virgil does a cartwheel to taunt Martel and does a few jumping jacks. Martel gains wrist control, but Virgil counters. Martel misses an elbow strike in the corner and Virgil hits an arm drag. Virgil continues with a leg drop to the arm and maintains arm control. Virgil counters a hip toss with a backslide and arm drags Martel to the mat to maintain arm control. Martel knee lifts Virgil against the ropes and delivers a clothesline to counter a backdrop attempt. Martel stomps on Virgil several times followed by an elbow drop to the back. Martel strikes Virgil a few more times and hits a gut wrench suplex for a near fall. Martel strikes Virgil in the midsection and heads to the middle rope, but Virgil strikes Martel in midair. Virgil continues with strikes to the body. Virgil hits a side Russian leg sweep. Virgil hip tosses Martel out of the corner and shoulder rams Martel several times. Virgil pummels Martel with strikes in the corner. Martel nails Virgil with his Arrogance spray can and loses the match by disqualification. After the match, Martel stomps Virgil before walking off. (1/2*. Why can’t Martel win over Virgil cleanly? Martel is involved in a heated rivalry with Tatanka while Virgil is doing… nothing.)
10.) Jim Powers won his match following a snap powerslam off the ropes. Surely, Powers will be losing a match against an established name soon on TV.
11.) The panel talk about the announcement of who will be competing in the main event at SummerSlam next week on Prime Time Wrestling. Heenan believes it will be Savage vs. Flair at the PPV. Heenan doesn’t think there’s anyone more deserving than Flair to be in the main event against Savage at SummerSlam.
Final Thoughts:
Looks like next week is where the start of the big push towards SummerSlam will begin with the announcement of the main event taking place. This week felt like a filler week and the action in-ring was rather disappointing.
Thanks for reading.
