We close out January 1992 and usher in the first few days of February ahead of SuperBrawl II. Coverage includes both WCW Power Hour and WCW Saturday Night this week.

  1. The Love Machines (Art Barr & 2 Cold Scorpio) defeated Al Perez & Al Snow in a tag team match when Scorpio pinned Snow following a 450 Splash.
  2. Steve Austin’s Celebration is Cut Short: “Stunning” Steve Austin made his way down to the ring, proudly holding his championship belt and cutting a self-congratulatory promo to celebrate an important landmark in his championship reign. After having heard enough, Chris Benoit hit the ring and attacked Austin.
  3. Steven Regal defeated “Iceman” King Parsons in a singles match when Regal forced Parsons to submit via the Regal Stretch.
  4. Recap Video of the Feud Between Sting and Lex Luger: This week’s show featured a strong recap video package chronicling the intense feud between Sting and Lex Luger, laying out the key events that have brought the two to this breaking point.
  5. Sting Backstage Interview: Backstage this week, Missy Hyatt caught up with Sting to discuss the ongoing situation with Lex Luger. The interview was short but sharp, with Sting making it clear that he hasn’t forgotten recent events… Lex Luger’s actions were not going to go unanswered.
  6. Sting defeated Larry Zbyszko in a singles match when Sting forced Zbyszko to submit via the Scorpion Deathlock.

WCW SATURDAY NIGHT

  1. Jushin “Thunder” Liger defeated Johnny B. Badd in a singles match when Liger pinned Badd following a Liger Bomb.
  2. Harlem Heat Backstage Interview: Eric Bischoff interviewed Booker T & Stevie Ray backstage this week ahead of their match with 2 Cold Scorpio & Art Barr, and the time made it clear they were walking in with focus and walking out with a statement. Booker had the mic first, breaking down their opponents’ weaknesses while Stevie added intensity, promising they wouldn’t be outmatched or outworked. The Love Machines are in for a beating tonight, pure and simple.
  3. Bryan Clark defeated David Heath in a singles match when Clark pinned Heath following a Pumphandle Slam.
  4. Big Van Vader Has Arrived: Cameras cut backstage to capture Big Van Vader arriving at the venue. Dressed for business and with a focused look, he walked through the backstage area, making clear he was here and ready for the night ahead.
  5. Cactus Jack w/ Gary Hart defeated Chris Benoit in a singles match when Jack pinned Benoit following a Double Arm DDT. “Stunning” Steve Austin also provided an outside distraction, which helped set up the finish of the match.
  6. Dustin Rhodes Speaks His Peace: Dustin Rhodes made his way down to the ring with a microphone to address his latest feelings about the WCW Tag Team Championship loss, his concussion status, “Ravishing” Rick Rude, and he and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat not currently being on the same page. Rhodes was nearly blaming Steamboat for their loss at Clash of the Champions XVIII. Finally, his father, Dusty Rhodes, came down to the ring to talk some sense into Dustin resulting in the two sharing a hug and leaving the ring together.
  7. Big Van Vader w/ Harley Race defeated Shane Helms in a singles match when Vader pinned Helms following a Vader Bomb.
  8. Big Van Vader Beats Down Shane Helms: Right as the bell rang and the crowd exhaled, Vader a sudden, brutal Power Bomb to Shane Helms, laying him out cold in the center of the ring. Vader is back… and he is taking no prisoners.
  9. “Ravishing” Rick Rude w/ Madusa & Paul E. Dangerously defeated Ron Simmons in a singles match for the WCW United States Championship when Rude pinned Simmons following a Rude Awakening. Rick Rude was able to successfully retain the WCW United States Championship.
  10. The Love Machines’ Backstage Interview: Missy Hyatt was standing by to interview Art Barr & 2 Cold Scorpio backstage ahead of their number one contenders match against Harlem Heat. Harlem Heat may be hot right now, but they had all the love of the crowd behind them! The Love Machines are cooling Booker T and Stevie Ray off and taking the fight to the champs after that!
  11. The Love Machines (Art Barr & 2 Cold Scorpio) defeated Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray) in a tag team match to determine the number one contenders for the WCW Tag Team Championship when Barr pinned Booker following a Frog Splash.
  12. Cactus Jack & Sabu Surprise Attack: After the new number one contenders were officially determined, Cactus Jack and Sabu immediately launched a violent two-on-two assault on 2 Cold Scorpio & Art Barr. Cactus Jack struck first and he and Sabu put the boots to their future challengers to close out the show.

WCW: IN THE NEWS

01/27/92 – 02/02/92

  • Multiple talents are said to be a little tired of Jushin “Thunder” Liger throwing his weight around backstage. It is rumored that of all people, Scott Steiner came forward to address WCW’s top brass in a request to cool his push off, as it is becoming apparent that Liger’s head ‘seems to be getting too big for his own good’.
