Rebooking WCW: Week 7, 1992

This week includes the go-home editions of WCW Power Hour and WCW Saturday Night heading into SuperBrawl II happening this Sunday, February 16th! How will WCW’s first pay-per-view of the year shape out? We will find out, plus this week’s promotion news all within.

WCW POWER HOUR

Event Date: February 14th, 1992

Location: Arkansas, United States

Attendance: 8,500 [SOLD OUT]

Total Viewers: 152,011

  1. The Lightning Kid Debuts: The Lightning Kid debuted this week in a high-impact segment by stepping into the ring and taking a microphone. There was no trash-talking, no brawl, just a direct message to the crowd, the locker room, and anyone watching around the world. The promo was sharp and focused. Kid introduced himself to the company and made his mission statement clear: he is here to light a fire under fellow young stars that are flocking to WCW! The real competition has arrived!
  2. The Lightning Kid defeated Hector Garza in a singles match when Kid pinned Garza following a Moonsault off the top rope.
  3. The Deadly Duo (Cactus Jack & Sabu) w/ Gary Hart defeated Kendall & Barry Windham in a singles match for the WCW Tag Team Championship when Kendall was counted out following a Cactus Elbow on the floor. Cactus Jack & Sabu were able to successfully retain the WCW Tag Team Championship.
  4. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat defeated Larry Zbyszko in a singles match when Steamboat pinned Zbyszko following a Flying Crossbody off the top rope.
  5. The Dangerous Alliance Seeks Immediate Revenge: What happened after the match was less of an attack and more of a statement. With Ricky Steamboat coming out victorious, Arn Anderson appeared and struck first. Within seconds, Bobby Eaton, Steve Austin, and “Ravishing” Rick Rude joined in, turing the attack into a full-scale, coordinated four-on-one assault. Officials tried to intervene, but were swatted away. By the end of it all, Steamboat was left motionless, with Rick Rude and the rest of The Dangerous Alliance stood over him, basking in the chaos they’d created. Rude held up his WCW United States Championship as Paul E. Dangerously applauded his men’s work.
  6. Johnny B. Badd Vents His Frustrations: Prior to his main event match against “Stunning” Steve Austin tonight for the WCW Television Championship, Johnny B. Badd wanted to get a few things off of his chest. Missy Hyatt let Johnny do all the talking here, as he vented his frustrations with the company as a whole, including his position on the cards as of late. He vowed to FORCE the WCW office to sit down and take notice of all he brings to the table in WCW, starting with winning the WCW Television Championship TONIGHT!
  7. “Stunning” Steve Austin defeated Johnny B. Badd in a singles match for the WCW Television Championship when Austin pinned Badd following a Stun Gun. Steve Austin was able to successfully retain the WCW Television Championship.

WCW SATURDAY NIGHT

Event Date: February 15th, 1992

Location: Texas, United States

Attendance: 8,590

Total Viewers: 2,219,870

  1. Jushin “Thunder” Liger defeated Bill DeMott, Chris Jericho, Chris Kanyon, Diamond Dallas Page, & Glen Gilberti in a six-man match when Liger pinned Page following a Fisherman Buster.
  2. Steven Regal Open Challenge: Similar to last week, Steven Regal made his way to the ring to issue another open challenge to the locker room. He aid that last week’s loss to Jushin Liger was a fluke and tonight, he is ready for whoever may make their way to the ring!
  3. The Lightning Kid defeated Steven Regal in a singles match when Kid flash pinned Regal following a Spinning Heel Kick.
  4. Brass Knuckles… Again: Steven Regal again reached into his tights and produced a set of brass knuckles following his loss this week. He clocked Kid, dropping him flat, eyes glazed. The crowd erupted in a mix of boos as Steven Regal tucked the knucks away just before the official caught him.
  5. Bryan Clark defeated Scotty Riggs in a singles match when Clark pinned Riggs following a Pumphandle Slam.
  6. Recap Video for Sting / Luger at SuperBrawl II: A recap video of the issues between Sting and Lex Luger was played and the story was clear: this wasn’t just about competition… it was personal. Commentary framed it as ‘a grudge that’s gone too far for it to end cleanly’. There is going to be an ugly fight at SuperBrawl tomorrow night!
  7. Matt Borne w/ Gary Hart defeated Z-Man in a singles match when Borne pinned Z-Man following a Stump Puller.
  8. The Love Machines (2 Cold Scorpio & Art Barr) defeated The York Foundation (Tommy Rich & Richard Morton) w/ Alexandra York in a tag team match when Scorpio pinned Rich following a 450 Splash.
  9. Love Machines Post-Match Interview: As 2 Cold Scorpio and Art Barr celebrated their win in the ring, Missy Hyatt was able to grab them for a quick post-match interview at ringside. Barr & Scorpio said the gloves were off at SuperBrawl, because they’ve requested a Falls Count Anywhere match against the WCW Tag Team Champions at SuperBrawl tomorrow night! Higher-ups have granted their request and they can’t wait to get their hands on The Deadly Duo and the titles.
  10. Chris Benoit defeated Booker T in a singles match when Booker passed out following a Crossface.
  11. Benoit and Austin Clash Once More: Following his hard-fought victory against Booker T, it didn’t take him long to grab a microphone and rip into his opponent at SuperBrawl. “Stunning” Steve Austin and Paul E. Dangerously entered and what followed was a classic war of words. Both went back and forth on the mic, pushing buttons until tensions erupted and fists began to fly.
  12. Big Van Vader defeated Van Hammer in a singles match when Vader pinned Hammer following a Power Bomb.
  13. Recap Video Between “Ravishing” Rick Rude and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat: A recap vdeo of the feud between “Ravishing” Rick Rude and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat was played highlighting key moments from the last month’s worth of interactions and confrontations. Who will reign as WCW United States Champion following SuperBrawl II?
  14. Lex Luger defeated Johnny B. Badd in a singles match when Luger forced Badd to submit with a Torture Rack.

WCW: IN THE NEWS

02/10/92 – 02/16/92

  • Carl Oulette and Lance Storm have accepted written contracts with WCW. No terms have been disclosed. (02/10)
  • Michael Hayes has failed a drug test. Per the WCW wellness policy, he has been suspended for 30 days, effective immediately. (02/10)
  • Brian Lawler has mutually parted ways with WCW. (02/10)
  • Matt Borne’s 30 day suspension has been served and will be lifted immediately, according to reports. (02/12)
  • Keith Hart and Chris Kanyon have accepted written contracts with WCW. Both were working informal, pay-per-appearance deals prior. No further terms have been disclosed. (02/12)
  • Johnny B. Badd is reportedly very happy with receiving a featured title shot on this week’s television. Apparently his discussions with the office have been paying off. (02/14)
