Premier Wrestling Federation presents Two Year Anniversary Show
Date: 3/16/2003
From: Pottstown, PA
The show starts off with PWF officials in the ring to celebrate the second year anniversary of the promotion. The microphone they’re using is cutting out and frustrating the speaker. They take a moment to remember Curt Hennig, who had passed away on February 10th, which was the day after their February event.
Opening Contest: The SAT (Joel & Jose) vs. Brian XL & Homicide: Homicide and Jose kickoff the match and they show respect to each other with a fist pump. Homicide starts off with a shoulder block and a couple of arm drags. Homicide keeps arm control on the mat and switches to a headlock. Jose arm drags Homicide and avoids the Cop Killa. Homicide drop toe holds Jose, but Jose reaches the ropes to stop the momentum. XL tags into the match as does Joel. Joel takes XL down to the mat, but slaps the back of XL’s head and pops up. Joel strikes XL several times. XL arm drags Joel, but Joel delivers a kick. XL head scissors Joel across the ring. Joel manages a two count on a rollup, but XL kicks Joel to the floor. Homicide cleans house with forearms and a cutter to Joel. Homicide sits Jose on the top to hit a hurricanrana for a near fall. Joel suplexs Homicide for a near fall. Homicide drops Joel to the mat with a slam for a two count. Jose dumps Homicide to the apron and puts a sleeper on before kicking Homicide to the floor. XL is stopped on the top rope and SAT hit the Spanish Fly to win the match. (***. That was probably one of the best opening matches in PWF history. Sure, it was a little sloppy, but it was a great way to kickoff the anniversary show. Jose looks like he’s ready to be back on a major promotion as he’s in fantastic shape.)
Greg Spitz comes out to cut a promo, which the microphone continues to cause chaos. Spitz claims he’s the “bitch maker” and calls out for his opponent to come out. That brings out Simply Luscious. However, she brings out Spitz opponent… Samoa Joe.
Second Contest: Samoa Joe vs. Greg Spitz: Spitz offers Joe some cash to not beat him up and Joe takes the money, but also decks Spitz to the mat with a strike. Joe puts a headlock on Spitz before being sent into the ropes and shoulder blocks Spitz. Joe catches Spitz on a leapfrog to hit a Samoan Drop. Joe chops Spitz to the mat. Spitz chokes Joe in the corner and runs into an STO. Joe kicks Spitz several times on the chest followed by the Island Driver for the win. (*. For the most part this was just Joe kicking ass and that’s what people wanted. I’d even say Spitz may have gotten too much offense with his weak looking strikes that Joe still sold.)
Chris Hamrick comes out and sits on a chair in the middle of the ring. Hamrick asks if the people want to see him wrestle and there’s a cheer. Hamrick is putting his gear on in the middle of the ring, apparently. Hamrick is roasting the audience while changing. Hamrick wants to kick someone’s ass tonight and calls out for a wrestler to fight him. Dewey Cheatum comes out and says he has a lot of respect for Hamrick and notes that Hamrick has been in the business for a long time. Cheatum says he heard that Hamrick went to school with Jesus Christ in the third grade and asks if Jesus was as cool as he sounds. Cheatum says Hamrick is the same age as Hogan and Flair, which crosses the line.
Third Contest: Chris Hamrick vs. Dewey Cheatum: Hamrick strikes Cheatum, but Cheatum hits a crossbody for a two count. Hamrick misses a splash in the corner and Cheatum rams Hamrick into the top turnbuckle several times. Hamrick boots Cheatum in the corner, but Cheatum avoids a tornado DDT attempt. Cheatum fails on a hurricanrana attempt. Hamrick hits a middle rope piledriver to win the match. (*1/2. I was actually shocked with how decent Cheatum looked as I was not expecting basically anything out of him. Hamrick’s piledriver off the middle rope is dangerous, but also fantastic.)
Fourth Contest: Da Hit Squad (Mafia & Mack) vs. Chi Chi Cruz & Chris Divine: Divine and Mack kickoff the tag match by doing a test of strength. Mack tosses Divine into a corner for the early advantage. Divine gets a headlock on Mack, but runs into a shoulder block. Mack runs the ropes and sends Divine into the ropes. Divine is sent into Cruz and they are splashed by both Mafia and Mack leading to a near fall on Cruz. Mack tosses Divine into the corner as Mafia beats on Rapid Fire on the apron. Cruz suplexs Mack and gets a three count. (*1/2. Okay, the finish is rather bizarre since Cruz and Divine were getting destroyed for most of the match and then a simple suplex after hardly any offense is good enough to pickup the win on Mack? Yeah, that’s a bit weird to me. Da Hit Squad should be absolute beasts and not jobbing in this manner.)
Cruz, Rapid Fire and Chris Divine are pissed about the SAT shaking hands with Da Hit Squad last month after their match. They call out SAT and ask what is more important to them. SAT say the tag titles are most important. That leads to the SAT being attacked and essentially kicked out of the group. Amazing Red runs out and makes the save leading to a standoff with the SAT. Whipwreck delivers a wheelbarrow slam for a near fall. Red kicks Whipwreck and hits a Code Red for a near fall. Red heads to the top rope missing a swanton bomb. Whipwreck delivers a stunner and Red does a backflip on the sell to win the match. (**. I understand that Whipwreck is a bigger name than Red, but Red should be going over. What does Whipwreck get out of this? Red was a ton of fun and the majority of the entertainment was Red’s offense. Whipwreck had a rather poor outing last month and should be putting over Red here as the underdog favorite.)
Sixth Contest: Rapid Fire Maldonado vs. Rockin’ Rebel in a loser waves the flag match: Rebel backdrops Rapid at the start of the match followed by a dropkick. Rebel pummels Rapi with right hands in the corner. Rebel beats on Cruz at ringside, but Rapid attacks from behind to gain the advantage. Rapid slams Rebel face first onto the apron a few times. Rapid eye rakes Rebel in the corner before choking Rebel with a flag. Rapid clotheslines Rebel coming off the ropes and dumps Rebel through the ropes to the floor. Cruz sends Rebel back into the ring and Rapid scoop slams Rebel. Rebel slams Rapid off the top rope, but there’s no pins, apparently. Rapid plants Rebel with a swinging side slam. Rapid delivers a fist drop off the ropes, but there’s no pins in the match. Rapid sends Rebel to the floor where Cruz continues to deliver strikes. Rapid jabs Reel, but misses a kick attempt. Rebel scoop slams Rapid and grabs something off of Rapid’s boot. Rebel decks Rapid with it and the referee calls for the match since Rapid is knocked out. (1/2*. It’s kind of a bizarre match to not have pins and only be a KO finish. The crowd was heavily behind Rebel, and the match was probably better than I expected, but not very good regardless.)
Seventh Contest: NWA/UPW/Zero-One International Junior Heavyweight Champion Low Ki vs. Quiet Storm: Ki and Storm stand in the middle of the ring where Storm slaps Ki and is promptly met with strikes. Storm head scissors Ki and delivers a leg sweep. Storm arm drags Ki to the floor and comes off the ropes looking for a suicide dive, but is met with a kick instead. Ki traps Storm in a modified head scissors with a leg lock and forces Storm to submit to retain the title. (***1/4. I’d say this was significantly better than their match the previous month. A much better paced match and the action flew by compared to dragging along to a snails pace last month. They must have figured out their chemistry since their previous outing. The audience reacted much differently and gave them a standing ovation.)
Eighth Contest: Josh Daniels & Matt Striker vs. Jack Victory & Joey Matthews: Daniels and Matthews kickoff the tag match. They run the ropes until Matthews holds onto the ropes and stops in his tracks. Laree tries to help, but Simply Luscious comes out and tackles Laree for a catfight. Striker gets the momentum and pins Victory for the win. (*1/2. There wasn’t much to this, at all. I actually didn’t mind Laree tagging with Matthews since she’s far more capable in the ring than Victory is at this point in his career.)

Daniels counters a spinebuster and tries for Angels Wings, but is met with a backdrop. Daniels attempts a springboard, but is caught in midair where Anderson delivers the spinebuster to pickup the clean win. (**. It started off slow, but it turned into a decent match. I’d say it was more boring, though. There were a few decent spots, but it never picked up steam for me.)

Matthews and Victory slide a table into the ring. They set the table up in the corner. Corino puts Credible through the table with a suplex for a near fall. Corino avoids a superkick and suplexs Credible for the win to win the title. (**1/2. This is what it needed to be. There was blood quickly and it was mostly a brawl. Corino is absolutely trying to be the Pottstown version of Lawler in Memphis, and I think it’s working for me. Credible worked well here and the heel group provides plenty of challengers for Corino. This match had a much more old school vibe to it than it did anything ECW related. I enjoyed it for what it was.)
Final Thoughts:
I thought this was a good show for PWF. The crowd was into most of the action and there were several worthwhile matches. SAT/XL & Homicide, Joe kicking ass, Storm/Ki, and Credible/Corino were fun bouts. Pottstown crowd continues to provide entertainment in their own right, too.
Thanks for reading.
