Lance Russell and Dave Brown welcome everyone to the show. They rundown the show this week.
Lance Russell interviews Jerry Jarrett to begin the program. Jerry talks about his logging company and has been staying busy with the new business. Jerry comes out and wants to credit Lance Russell for being the best at what he does in the whole country. Jerry notes that Russell has been voted the best announcer for the fourth year in a row and Jerry has a trophy to hand Russell. Russell shares the trophy with his partner, Dave Brown. Jerry is going to come back out and do some commentary with Russell later on.
They make a phone call to talk to Jerry Lawler. Lawler is recovering from a recent fireball attack by Eddie Gilbert. We get footage to remind us of the attack. Lawler says he’s been doing a lot better and says he’s watching the show from home. Lawler note that Eddie Gilbert is going by the “Legend Slayer”, but promises that Gilbert hasn’t gotten the job done. Eddie Gilbert comes out and gets on the phone with Missy Hyatt. Eddie wants Lawler to admit that he’s a liar and a coward. Lawler calls them mice and he’ll be back to take care of business. Eddie takes credit for taking out Lawler, Dundee and will do the same to Steve Keirn. Lawler promises to take Eddie out of wrestling completely. Eddie hangs up on Lawler and believes that Russell has proved how partial he is to Lawler. Eddie says that Lawler holds the record for the fastest victory on the show. The match was 22-seconds long. Eddie is going to beat that record.
Opening Contest: Eddie Gilbert vs. Alan Reynolds. Eddie decks Reynolds with brass knuckles while Hyatt distracted the referee and Gilbert wins the match in record time. After the match, Gilbert is told it was eleven seconds long. Eddie wants to talk to about Steve Keirn. Eddie thinks their match will go eleven seconds, as well. We see footage of a match between Gilbert and Keirn, which was thrown out by the referee. Eddie claims that Keirn tried to runaway from him.
Lance Russell interviews Tommy and Doug Gilbert, who have Missy Hyatt with them. Tommy thinks that he should give Eddie Marlin an advantage against him. Tommy says that Marlin is going to have nightmares every night he goes to sleep thinking of the Gilbert Family. Eddie is out there with them, as well. Eddie wants to talk to Jerry Jarrett and says the whole company is ran by family. Eddie grabs Jerry Jarrett by his arm to talk on camera. Eddie says that everyone knows that Jerry protects Lawler and his family. Jerry says that his not the matchmaker because Eddie Marlin wouldn’t be wrestling if he were. Jerry suggests Eddie retire his daddy. Tommy attacks Jerry and Eddie tosses a fireball into Jerry’s face! The locker room empties to check on Jerry. Jerry is helped backstage to end the segment.
Second Contest: Tommy & Doug Gilbert vs. Scotty The Body & Doug Dancing: As expected, it doesn’t take long for the Gilbert’s to get this done. Gilbert’s hit a backdrop/powerbomb combo on Dancing to win the match.
Lance Russell interviews Eddie Marlin. Marlin says he still fought Tommy regardless of the Gilbert’s involvement. Marlin doesn’t care who is on the phone because Tommy has taken this too far by bringing his family into the mix. Marlin takes off his jacket and is ready for a fight. Marlin knows that Tommy has no guts and proceeds to walk off. Russell goes back to the phone and Lawler says he’s seen everything that happened. Lawler promises that he’ll be there next week. Lawler demands Marlin to change the match because he wants to wrestle Eddie Gilbert. Marlin will take care of Tommy while Lawler focuses on Eddie.
Third Contest: Ken Wayne & Rikki Nelson vs. Rough & Ready: Wayne wins the match with a bridging German suplex.
They promote the Renegades Rampage contest and the newest trivia question is name three people that had their heads shaved by Jerry Lawler.
Brother Ernest hosts a new segment called Quiet Time. This is a pre-tape segment where Ernest talks from his home, I’m assuming. Ernest has been on a mission to clean up wrestling and says that donations are coming in from everywhere. Ernest is developing an area that will have wrestling 24/7, theme park and a hotel. Ernest got money from a woman who is divorced and working a second job.
Fourth Contest: Don Bass, Brickhouse Brown & Terry Adonis vs. The Zebra Warriors & Ken Raper: Bass, Brickhouse and Adonis are part of Ernest’s mission. Brown wins the match following a top rope splash on Raper.
Main Event: AWA Southern Tag Team Champions & CWA Heavyweight Champion Maxx Payne & Gary Young vs. The Bruise Brothers: Young and Ron kickoff the tag title match. Young keeps Ron on the mat with a headlock. Payne tags in and keeps control with strikes over the back on Ron. Ron comes off the ropes to hit a clothesline. Don tags into the match and keeps arm control on Payne. Ron tags back in and the Bruise Brothers deliver double back elbows to Young and a double dropkick to Payne. Ron backdrops Young and Don decks Young from the apron. All four men are in the ring brawling as the tag champs are sent into each other. Brother Ernest hits Don with the good book allowing Young to earn the pin. The Bruise Brothers grab the money from Brother Ernest and toss it into the crowd. Bruise Brothers are attacked by the champs, who reclaim the money. (*. It wasn’t much of a match, but I’m fine with the Bruise Brothers losing as I’m never liked them. Brother Ernest is growing on me.)
Final Thoughts:
It’s not a strong episode as a whole, but the segment involving Eddie Gilbert and Jerry Jarrett was notable and really good television. I’m interested in Eddie Gilbert/Lawler feud and it’s probably the most interested I’ve been in a feud since Austin Idol feuding with Lawler in 1987.
Thanks for reading.
