WWF Heat 4/29/2001

World Wrestling Federation presents Heat
Date:
4/29/2001
From: Chicago, IL

Matches:
1.) Jerry Lynn defeated WWF Light Heavyweight Champion Crash Holly to win the title
2.) Lita defeated Molly Holly

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Tonight is the same night as Backlash. So, this episode is likely to be heavy on promos and video packages. Though, having two advertised matches is cool with me.

2.) Backstage, Kevin Kelly interviews The Dudley Boys regarding their six man tag match tonight. D-Von says that they are all sick and tired of X-Factor. D-Von calls them liars after they hit the What’s Up and 3D. They will put them through a table, too. Bubba knows that Chicago wants tables and X-Factor will go through tables at Backlash.

3.) Backstage, Lilian Garcia interviews Big Show regarding his match with Shane McMahon tonight at Backlash. Show says that Test got a taste of what he’s capable of doing on Smackdown. Shane is living in a fairytale world, but this is a reality. Show is the biggest, nastiest man and he’s going to tear Shane apart tonight.

4.) Jerry Lynn grabs a microphone and says that Chicago knows what he’s all about. Lynn issued a challenge to WWF Light Heavyweight Champion Crash Holly to a match. Lynn wants to show the division the attention and respect it deserves.

5.) Lynn hits a leg drop over the middle rope to start the match during Holly’s entrance. Crash takes Lynn over with a hurricanrana. Lynn hits a tilt a whirl backbreaker for a two count. Lynn continues to work over Crash with strikes. Crash clotheslines Lynn a few times followed by a dropkick for a two count. Crash continues to work over Lynn with forearms and stomps in the corner. Lynn boots Crash in the corner, but runs into a snap powerslam leading to a near fall. Crash forearms Lynn on the lower back and delivers a stomp to the back. Crash puts a bow and arrow on Lynn in the middle of the ring, but doesn’t get a submission. Crash gets out of a pin and continues to work over the lower back of Lynn. They trade a few strikes with Crash getting the advantage with a clothesline. Lynn gets a rollup on Crash for a two count. They trade a few pin attempts. Lynn gets a rollup with a handful of tights to win the match and title. (*. I’m thrilled that Lynn is now in the WWF because he’s capable of some great matches. I don’t think they delivered on a great match for the division, but I’m glad the title is on Lynn now.)

6.) Outside the venue, Shane McMahon has arrived to the arena.

7.) Lita takes Molly down to the mat with a rollup for a two count. Lita keeps control with a hammerlock, but Molly gains arm control and nearly wins with a rollup. Lita head scissors Molly and shoulder rams Molly in the corner. Molly counters a monkey flip and avoids a kick to deliver a couple of elbow drops. Molly takes Lita over with a snap suplex. Lita plants Molly with a swinging neckbreaker. Molly tries for a slam, but Lita counters with a reverse DDT for a near fall. Molly counters the Twist of Fate with a northern lights suplex for a two count. Molly continues with a vertical suplex and heads to the top rope hitting a crossbody for a near fall. Lita blocks a strike and hits the Twist of Fate. Lita heads to the top rope hitting the moonsault for the win. (*. Obviously a quick match, but they did okay for the time given. Molly showcased her wrestling ability and they showed that if given more time they could put together a fun match.)

8.) WWF Intercontinental Champion Triple H and Stephanie McMahon will be special guests next week on Heat at WWF New York.

Final Thoughts:
It’s cool to see Jerry Lynn in the WWF and winning a title in his first match. I don’t think this episode of Heat got me any more excited for Backlash. I’ll give it a thumbs down this week.
