We start off with footage from last week where Rick Michaels retired and admitted that Bill Behrens has won the fight. He’s sorry he let everyone down and he’s going to spend time with his family. They also show Jim Cornette’s appearance. This is not a quick video recap.
Jeff G. Bailey is in the woods on the phone assuring Ruckus that they’re not going to have to wrestle Stone Mountain. Bailey notices the camera and walks away saying it is a private conversation.
Opening Contest: AJ Styles vs. Jesse Taylor: They shake hands to start with Taylor taking Styles down to the mat and keeps arm control. Taylor shoulder blocks Styles followed by a belly to belly suplex. Taylor shoulder blocks Styles, but Styles responds with a DDT. Styles stomps Taylor on the mat followed by a right hand. Styles tries for a springboard, but slips in the corner and is tossed across the ring by Taylor. Taylor continues with a powerslam for a near fall. Styles fights back with a standing dropkick followed by an arm drag and keeps arm control. Taylor sends Styles into the corner and hits a top rope diving headutt to the back. Taylor covers for a near fall. Taylor misses a spear and hits the post. Styles kicks Taylor and delivers a clothesline. Styles hammers away on Taylor, but misses a splash in the corner. Taylor backdrops Styles coming off the ropes. Taylor delivers a side Russian leg sweep for a near fall. Taylor stomps Styles in the corner. Taylor drives Styles down with a backbreaker for another near fall as the show goes to commercial.
Styles runs into a boot in the corner and Taylor hits a belly to belly suplex, but Jeff G. Bailey comes out to distract the referee. Onyx enters the ring and hits Taylor with the NCW Television Championship. Styles recovers and hits a top rope swanton bomb for the win. (*1/2. Okay, that is a bit odd for Styles to take that win. Styles is one guy that they shouldn’t turn heel and if this is the beginning of a heel turn I’m going to be bummed out.)
Backstage, Jeff G. Bailey is talking to Thugs Inc. (Onyx & Terry Knight) about not allowing Stone Mountain to get a title shot against Ruckus. Bailey hates Stone Mountain and says Mark E. Mark is going to go into battle and they’ll cause a screw job to piss everyone off.
Jeff G. Bailey comes out and says that Stone Mountain will never get a title shot against Ruckus. Bailey says even though Mark E. Mark has an injury he’s going to beat up Stone Mountain. Bailey says if Mountain wins then he can be the champion.
Second Contest: Mark E. Mark vs. Stone Mountain: Mountain nails Mark with a big boot and an elbow drop off the ropes. Mountain plants Mark with a pump handle slam. Mountain delivers a spinning side walk slam. Mountain drives Mark down with a sit out slam. Mountain clotheslines Mark coming off the ropes. Mountain hits a sit out chokebomb for the win. After the match, nobody came out to cause a screw job and Bailey freaks out. Bailey is pissed that his guys were late. Bailey storms backstage and yells at his goons. Bailey breaks down saying that Ruckus is going to kill him. (NR. I actually don’t mind this especially if Ruckus is done wrestling forever.)
Bill Apter hosts the WOW Magazine segment. Apter talks about ‘smart’ fans and how some of them are the dumbest fans. Apter complains about internet fans spreading awful lies and stop ruining it for people who still like to get lost in the fantasy world of wrestling. Apter wants the smart fans to smarten up. Apter talks about the Brian Pillman Memorial show that Les Thatcher has held for the past three years. Thatcher appears on the show and promotes the show.
Main Event: David Young vs. Keith Cole: Cole takes Young over with a fireman carry. Young fights out of a hammerlock and ducks a clothesline to hit a crossbody. Young continues with a dropkick and a forearm strike to send Keith reeling to the floor. Young drop toe holds Keith to the mat and keeps arm control. Young scoop slams Keith, but misses an elbow drop. Keith chops Young against the ropes and hits a swinging neckbreaker. Keith misses an elbow drop a couple of times as Young bails to the floor. Young is met with a chair shot on the floor. Young is pummeled at ringside and has been busted wide open. Young sunset flips Keith and gets a two count. The show goes to commercial.
Keith keeps control with a scoop slam and an elbow drop. Keith tosses Young through the ropes to the floor. Young is double teamed on the floor as Jim Cornette distracts the referee on the apron. Keith stomps Young on the mat. Cole splashes Young in the corner. Young is tripped and met with a knee drop to the neck. Young continues to be double teamed. Young is bleeding quite a bit at this point. Romeo Bliss comes down to ringside and gets on the apron looking to be tagged in by Young. Apparently this is now a tag match. Young continues to be pummeled with right hands. Young kicks and clotheslines Cole. Young can’t fight out of the corner and is worked over some more. Young plants Cole with a DDT.
Bliss gets the hot tag and cleans house with a few clotheslines on the Cole Twins. Bliss hits a couple of backdrops. Young hits a spinebuster in the middle of the ring and a moonsault. Cornette uses a tennis racket to lay out Bliss, the referee and Young. Twins front suplex Young to the mat and Cornette gets a few stomps in, as well. The lights go out…
When the lights come back on it is Rick Michaels and he saves Young! Michaels has a microphone. Michaels calls out Behrens and tells Behrens to bring the New South on May 6th for them to kick their ass.
Backstage, Stone Mountain how it feels to have the masterplan fail when it comes to Jeff G. Bailey. Mountain is the monster that Bailey created. Mountain is now the Wildside Heavyweight Champion and nobody can stop him now.
Final Thoughts:
I was really hoping they’d drag out the Rick Michaels retirement a bit longer than one week. If they had waited a month or two, the return pop would have been even bigger. The heels should have had momentum for a bit before his return. I’m not keen on a potential AJ Styles heel turn. He’s one guy that is so good in the ring that it’s going to be tough to boo him, which has been an issue for the majority of his career.
Thanks for reading.
