NWA Wildside TV
Date: 7/22/2000
From: Cornelia, GA
The show starts off with footage from last week, which I think is just continuing the match that was shown from Freedom Fight and they didn’t finish showing last week on TV. Bad Attitude won the NWA Georgia Tag Team Championships from Ashley Hudson and Kory Williams.
Backstage, Lee Tidwell and Steven Prazak promote the show where we will see a new tag team called Perfect Creation taking on American Males. David Young will square off against Terry Knight.
Steve Martin comes out to the ring and cuts a promo on Al Getz. Martin insults the crowd as being rednecks. Martin doesn’t think power has gone to his head. Martin says someone from Charlotte begged to make him a star, and he didn’t give him the time of day. That was apparently Al Getz. Martin says Getz runs his mouth and warns Getz to not mess with the NWA Elite or he’ll be six feet under. Martin calls out the NWA Elite along with Jeff G. Bailey. NWA Elite make their way out which includes, Eddie Golden, Candy, Terry Knight, Onyx, Scottie Wrenn and AJ Styles. Martin calls out Scottie Wrenn and says he has one more shot against Stone Mountain. Martin threatens Wrenn that if he doesn’t bring home the title he’s out of the NWA Elite. Martin wants the title and demands Wrenn deliver it to him. Wrenn tells Martin he’ll deliver the title. Martin walks off telling Wrenn it is his last warning.
MATCH #1: WILL POWERS VS. MIKE YOUNGBLOOD
FINISH: Youngblood puts on a modified figure four to force a submission from Powers.
Bob’s Take: Youngblood is literally an indie version of Tatanka, which automatically means I like him. I mean, Tatanka was one of my favorites growing up, so I’m not being sarcastic. Powers seems to be a preppy boy character. The crowd didn’t seem to be all that interested in this since these are two guys that haven’t been in the company before. The finish was kind of a lackluster one and kind of lame. It wasn’t the worst thing I’ve seen in Wildside, so I’d be willing to give these guys an extended look.
Match Rating: *1/2
Backstage, Mike Youngblood cuts a promo saying he’s been looking for the right promotion to work for and it’s NCW. Youngblood believes he’ll be winning belts and a ratings winner for NCW.
MATCH #2: ED SWIMMER VS. GEMINI — HARDCORE MATCH
FINISH: White Trash accidentally hits Swimmer with a stop sign leading to Gemini pinning Swimmer on the floor.
Bob’s Take: Swimmer has dyed his hair blonde. White Trash is now associated with Swimmer coming out of Freedom Fight. Apparently, Gemini has been taught by Rob Van Dam, but I’m not sure if that’s the commentary team lying. I’m also not sure why this is a hardcore match. I’m assuming it’s because Swimmer is associated with White Trash, who is a hardcore wrestler. Swimmer is not a hardcore wrestler, and apparently Gemini hates hardcore wrestling, too. Swimmer may be the most awkward and least confident looking wrestler I’ve seen in quite awhile. Swimmer gives off backyard wrestler vibes with how he competes and sells.
Match Rating: 1/2*
MATCH #3: WILDSIDE UNITED STATES CHAMPION TERRY KNIGHT VS. DAVID YOUNG
NOTE: This is for the Mississippi Television Championship that Young currently holds.
FINISH: Late in the match, Eddie Golden hit Young with a shoe allowing Knight to win, and thus won the Mississippi Television Championship. Actually, Rick Michaels comes out and shows the referee the shoe in the ring and reverses the decision. Bad Attitude fight off Knight and Golden to end the segment.
Bob’s Take: I was a little hopeful for this match to deliver a quality match, but Knight’s offense while in control was rather boring. Knight focused his attack on Young’s left knee for a good portion of the match. This was very clearly more so an angle advancement for seemingly a promotion in Mississippi rather than anything going on in Wildside.
Match Rating: *
Backstage, the tag team of Ultimate Creation cut a promo. Well, they say they are Perfect Creation, but their nameplate says Ultimate Creation. They are the beginning and the end, with everything in-between not mattering.
Backstage, Bill Behrens cuts a promo on Bad Attitude and Total Destruction. Behrens introduces the Cole Brothers as they are back in Wildside. They are going to be coming after Bad Attitude and Total Destruction. Behrens suggests they’ll not know which one is in the ring. Behrens suggests that the tag titles be handed over to the Cole Twins.
MAIN EVENT: ULTIMATE CREATION (JASON ULTIMA & THE PERFECT CREATION) VS. AMERICAN MALES (ADAM JACOBS & SILKY BOOM BOOM)
FINISH: Late in the match, Stone Mountain and Scottie Wrenn brawled on the floor and they entered the ring to attack both teams. They hit their finishers at the same time. Wrenn and Mountain brawled some more, but also took out security.
Bob’s Take: Ultimate Creation does not come across very well to me, at all. Yes, I was very much disappointed that this wasn’t a reunion of Buff Bagwell and Scotty Riggs as the American Males. For what it is worth, I thought Jacobs stood out especially in this match both with his offense and selling for the Ultimate Creation. I’m assuming the Ultimate Creation would be a team potentially getting a push in Wildside. Creation delivered a nice brainbuster to Jacobs during the match at one point. The intended shine to be put in Ultimate Creation amy have backfired as I am far more interested in American Males. The action in the main event was the best in-ring aspect of the show and the brawling by Mountain and Wrenn was enjoyable, too.
Match Rating: **1/4
Backstage, Bad Attitude cut a promo about a match with Triple X in August in Florida. Rick Michaels promises they are walking out of Florida as the NWA Tag Team Champions. Young says he has worked long and hard for his attitude and success. ‘Attitude is everything, and ours is bad!’
Final Thoughts:
Out of everything on the show, the main event had some good action. Silky Boom Boom had the best showing I can seem to remember, but I am most interested in Adam Jacobs. There wasn’t much angle progression other than apparently Scottie Wrenn being on the outs with the NWA Elite, and that makes me think he’ll reunite with JC Dazz. That may be a better direction and have them lead a babyface charge against the Elite.
Thanks for reading.
