World Wrestling Federation presents Heat
Date: 7/15/2001
From:
Matches:
1.) WWF Intercontinental Champion Albert defeated Justin Credible to retain the title
2.) WCW Cruiserweight Champion Billy Kidman defeated K-Kwik to retain the title
3.) Perry Saturn defeated Crash Holly
4.) Big Show & Billy Gunn defeated Shawn Stasiak & Chris Kanyon
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) A video montage of Spike Dudley and Molly Holly hanging out in the park is aired. Spike is using crutches because he’s always getting whooped on TV.
2.) Michael Cole is on commentary, but is all by himself. Tazz is normally with Cole, but Tazz defected to the Alliance and now Cole has a new commentary partner… Al Snow.
3.) Credible bails to the floor to taunt Albert and then slides back into the ring to stomp Albert and get the advantage. Credible continues with strikes, but Albert blocks a kick and decks Credible with right hands. Albert sends Credible upside down into the corner and drops Credible with a press slam. Credible apologizes and Albert rejects it hitting a hip toss out of the corner. Credible nails Albert with a kick to the head. Credible continues with right hands against the ropes, but Albert dumps Credible over the top to the floor. Albert tries to send Credible into the ring post, but Credible counters and pushes Albert into the post. Credible heads to the top rope, but Albert catches Credible and hits the Baldo Bomb. (*. I kind of figured that Credible would be jumping ship and end up in a match against one of his former stablemates. Credible was made to look foolish last week and is again shown to be a weak challenger in-ring here.)
4.) Spike Dudley and Molly Holly have arrived to WWF New York.
5.) Kidman elbows Kwik and ducks a clothesline before hitting a head scissors and a dropkick. Kidman punches Kwik in the corner, but misses a clothesline and Kwik hits a heel kick. Kwik covers for a one count. Kwik decks Kidman with a right hand and rams Kidman into the corner followed by stomps. Kidman catapults Kwik into the ropes and Kwik falls onto Kidman’s knees. Kidman punches Kwik several times and runs into a boot. Kidman dropkicks Kwik, but misses a clothesline. Kidman hits a sit out powerbomb for a near fall. Kwik hits a flatliner for a near fall. Kwik heads to the top rope, but is stopped by Kidman. Kidman hits a top rope hurricanrana and covers for a near fall. Kwik plants Kidman to the mat with a wheelbarrow facebuster for a near fall. Kidman hits a reverse Pedigree and pins Kwik for the win. (**. This was fine for what it was. It’s a bit weird to see a guy like Kwik involved in a Cruiserweight match since he’s not a Cruiserweight in any fashion. Kwik did show charisma and he’s got a good move set. Kwik doesn’t fit in the Cruiserweight division.)
6.) Crash attacks Saturn from behind to get the advantage with a back suplex. Crash continues with a sit out hip toss, which looks like Saturn landed awkward. Saturn nails Crash with a clothesline and several shoulder rams in the corner. Saturn drops Crash with a flapjack. Saturn continues with strikes in the corner and kicks Crash before being sent over the top to the floor. Crash decks Saturn on the floor and sends Saturn into the ring steps. Crash hits a suplex on the floor. Crash heads to the top rope and hits a missile dropkick for a two count. Crash forearms Saturn a few times, and hits a head scissors followed by a clothesline. Crash goes for the cover, but Saturn kicks out at two. Crash forearms Saturn a few times, but Saturn responds with punches. Saturn counters a head scissors with a clothesline and an overhead suplex. Saturn has Crash over his shoulder and rams Crash into the corner midsection first. Saturn heads to the top rope missing a splash attempt. Crash hits a standing hurricanrana for a near fall. Crash drop toe holds Saturn into the corner and tries to use the ropes for leverage, but Saturn put his boot on the bottom rope. Saturn nails Crash with a superkick and a swinging fisherman suplex for the win. After the match, Saturn celebrates with Moppy and not Terri. (**. I enjoyed this match and Saturn showcased his intensity instead of comedy. Saturn could be valuable midcard act, but with the Invasion taking place he’s likely going to get lost in the shuffle unless he jumps ship. However, that may not even be a positive move.)
7.) Backstage, Spike and Molly are at dinner. Spike says he’s had a great night and Molly says she wishes the night would never end. Spike is drinking milk.
8.) Stasiak and Gunn kickoff the tag match. Stasiak wants a piece of Big Show instead, which may not be a great idea. Show gets tagged in, and Stasiak cheap shots Gunn. Gunn distracts the referee allowing for a double team in the corner. Stasiak tries to send Show across the ring, but Show holds onto the ropes. Show nails Gunn with a clothesline. Show headbutts Stasiak and follows up with a leg drop. Gunn tags into the match and delivers a jab to the ribs. Gunn pummels Stasiak with right hands in the corner, but runs into a strike. Kanyon tags into the match and punches Gunn several times. Gunn runs the ropes to dropkick Kanyon followed by an arm drag. Gunn keeps arm control on the mat, but Kanyon backs Gunn against the ropes and delivers a shoulder ram. Kanyon continues with strikes against the ropes. Kanyon hits a side Russian leg sweep and delivers an elbow drop several times for a near fall. Stasiak tags into the match and delivers a strike to the ribs. Staisak stomps on Gunn in the corner followed by a choke. Stasiak continues with strikes, but Gunn comes back and runs into an attempted slam, but Show decks Stasiak from behind. Show shoves Stasiak into the corner and walks off. Show tags into the match and clotheslines both Kanyon and Stasiak. Show overhand chops Stasiak in the corner and delivers a clothesline. Gunn and Kanyon clothesline each other over the top to the floor. Show hits a reverse powerbomb and pins Stasiak. (**. A fine main event with a predictable outcome. It feels as if the WCW undercard guys are not going to have much of a chance. I’m taking it as if WWF may not see a lot in Stasiak or Kanyon long term.)
9.) Backstage, Spike Dudley tells Molly Holly she’s the best girlfriend a guy could have. Spike proceeds to kiss her and they go to interviewed by Michael Cole and Al Snow.
10.) Spike Dudley and Molly Holly are interviewed at WWF New York. Spike explains his current ankle injury. Spike says he’s healing and he helped APA win the tag titles by screwing over the Dudley Boys. Snow notes that their families do not get along and asks how it’s impacted them. Molly says it hasn’t bothered them too much and feels it has gotten them stronger. Spike doesn’t think anything will break them apart. Cole asks if Spike would ever work with Paul Heyman again. Spike says his focus is getting healthy and his relationship with Molly. Thus, ECW is not on his mind, at all. Snow asks who Spike is more loyal to. Spike say she’s more loyal to Molly than anyone or anybody else. Spike is grateful for the chance he got in ECW, but says it was different ECW when he was there. Spike thinks they have a great future together and has an important announcement for tomorrow night on RAW.
Final Thoughts:
The matches this week were decent and perfectly fine for Heat. Molly is going to break Spike’s heart and the love story will crumble. It comes across far to humble and kind for Molly to not turn on Spike and completely blindside him.
Thanks for reading.
