Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) The show starts with Billy Travis wrestling Blue Knight mid-match. Travis wins the match quickly with a middle rope twisting elbow drop.
2.) Lance Russell interviews Jeff Jarrett. We see footage of Jarrett saving Lawler at the Coliseum hitting Robert Fuller with a trash can as Fuller had Lawler tied up in the ropes. Jarrett thinks he got Fuller a little upset. Jarrett talks about seeing Fuller choking Lawler with a rope and hanging Lawler on TV. We see a pre-tape promo by Robert Fuller backstage at the Coliseum. Fuller is yelling about collecting a debt, but Jarrett got involved with a trash can to prevent payment for his bounty. Fuller promises Lawler will get what he deserves. Fuller shows the dented trash can that is from his head and threatens the cameraman. Jarrett thinks Fuller is crazy and smoked too much from his pipe. Jarrett suggests it is going to be a fight and not a wrestling match when they meet.
3.) Lance Russell interviews Tommy Gilbert, Doug Gilbert, Gary Young and Missy Hyatt. Tommy says this maid for a day has humiliated not only himself, but also Missy Hyatt. They are proud Gilbert’s and this kind of stuff has to stop. Tommy brings up the Von Erich’s and says the Gilbert’s are supreme in wrestling. Tommy respects Fritz for making sure his family is never humiliated. Tommy says the Jarrett’s make sure they aren’t humiliated either. The Fullers have made sure they aren’t humiliated. Every family in wrestling has made sure they aren’t humiliated. Tommy says they’ve gotten a gentleman and they’ve adopted Gary Young. Gary is going to be watching Missy Hyatt’s back. Hyatt says there’s no fury worse than a woman scorned. Young says this is one of the most beautiful days of his life. Young is honored to represent the Gilbert’s. Young says “I’m watching Missy’s behind”, which cracks up the fans and he corrects himself by saying her back.
4.) The Gilbert’s dominate their tag match as expected. After a couple of minutes, the Gilbert’s prevail when Tommy pins Dancin following a middle rope knee drop.
5.) Lance Russell interviews Brickhouse Brown. Brown insults a fan calling him a disgusting redneck. It sounded like the fan said Brother Ernest had AIDS. Brown says that Brother Ernest is gravely ill. The fans are chanting that Ernest has AIDS. Brown tells the fans to send their letters to a baptist church. Brown urges the fans to send letters and donations. Brown asks if a body can’t be ill without a live changing disease. Brown could hear the misery that Brother Ernest had. Brown claims that Ernest saw the light. Brown knows that Young is going to watch Hyatt’s behind, he means back. That breaks Lance Russell. Brown condemns Gary Young for associating with Missy and the Gilbert’s. Brown promises that Young will pay. Brown says the Cuban Assassins are now known as the Cuban Choir Boys as they’ve seen the light. That breaks Dave Brown at the commentary table. Brown hopes Russell doesn’t believe in Ernest having AIDS.
6.) AWA World Champion Curt Hennig shared pre-tape comments noting that Jerry Lawler has promised to retire if he doesn’t win the title. Hennig says he’s the only world champion because Flair and Savage only wrestle for NWA or WWF. Hennig defends the title all over the world. Hennig says it is time for Lawler to step aside and allow the new boss to takeover. Hennig believes May 9th will be a going away party for Lawler.
7.) Lance Russell interviews Jerry Lawler. Lawler talks about the phone lines being open over the weekend. Apparently the voting is very close and Lawler is a bit surprised that Fargo hasn’t won the vote handily. Lawler notes that there’s been more calls for Larry Hennig instead of Fargo. Lawler thinks his chances are slim and none if Larry Hennig wins the vote. Lawler wants Fargo to give a share shake if he were to win the vote. Lawler is hoping for a fair match unlike Larry Hennig. Lawler will be able to live with Curt Hennig being the better man. Lawler hopes to have Fargo as the referee and not Larry Hennig. Russell suggests if Larry were to win the voting that Lawler would need a gun or something. They plug the phone numbers to vote. Lawler believes it will be a big night on May 9th. Lawler says they’ll be giving away his crown to a fan and hopes to replace the crown with the championship.
8.) The six man tag match gets several minutes of action. Starr manages to win the match following a leaping clothesline on Eric. They proceed to do a second fall after a segment of Lance Russell promoting a trivia question for the Renegade Rampage. Steiner pins Eric following a running powerslam to win the second fall in short order.
Final Thoughts:
Nothing much of note here aside from promoting Lawler vs. Hennig a little bit more before the title match in a couple days. The promo by Brickhouse was a bit shocking as I was not expecting AIDS to be brought into the area as an angle point. I’d consider this a decent episode overall as they advanced feuds and it went along quickly.
Thanks for reading.
