World Wrestling Federation presents Metal
Date: 8/11/2001
From: Anaheim, CA
Matches:
1.) Crash defeated Essa Rios
2.) Jerry Lynn defeated Justin Credible
3.) Albert defeated Mike Awesome
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Crash controls Rios with a waist lock, but Rios counters quickly with a headlock. Rios shoulder blocks Crash and dropkicks Crash on the knee. Rios tries for a hip toss, but Crash counters with a clothesline. Crash holds onto the ropes and dumps Rios to the apron. Crash shoulder rams Rios to the apron and yanks Rios face first onto the apron for a two count. Crash scoop slams Rios and heads to the top rope to deliver a strike for a near fall. Rios gets a rollup on Crash for a near fall. Rios misses a spin kick, but drops Crash with a neckbreaker. Rios strikes Crash a few times and backdrops Crash followed by a dropkick. Rios clotheslines Crash to the mat. Rios kicks Crash several times and hits a springboard snap powerslam for a near fall. Crash avoids a slam attempt and is elbowed by Rios followed by a spinning heel kick. Rios slams Crash and misses a moonsault, but lands on his feet. Crash delivers a springboard bulldog off the middle rope for the win. (*1/2. I wish Rios would get more of a push especially in the Light Heavyweight division. Crash hasn’t done much for me since his departure from the hardcore comedy division angle.)
2.) Credible backs Lynn into a corner, but Lynn counters only for Credible to cheap shot Lynn with strikes. Lynn head scissors Credible into the corner and delivers a few more strikes. Lynn sends Credible upside down into the corner. Credible counters a bulldog with a knee breaker and wraps Lynn’s leg around the ring post. Credible kicks Lynn on the knee and splashes onto Lynn’s left knee. Lynn kicks Credible on the side of the head. Lynn strikes Credible several times followed by an elbow strike. Lynn scoop slams Credible and hits a middle rope leg drop. Lynn slowly goes for a cover, but Credible kicks out at two. Credible avoids a tornado DDT and superkicks Lynn for a two count. Lynn counters a figure four attempt with an inside cradle and wins the match. (*1/2. Well, it looks like Lynn legit blew out his knee on the middle rope leg drop attempt as this is his final WWF appearance and doesn’t wrestle again until March 2002. Credible can’t get any momentum as a member of the Alliance and it speaks volumes that WWF see him simply as a jobber despite his success in ECW previously.)
3.) Albert works over Awesome with a kick and runs into an elbow. Awesome drops Albert with a back suplex. Awesome kicks Albert and delivers a DDT. Awesome heads to the top rope hitting a big splash for a two count. Awesome strikes Albert a few times, but Albert doesn’t budge and drops Awesome with a strike. Awesome ducks a clothesline, but Albert hits a leaping shoulder block for a near fall. Albert big boots Awesome coming off the ropes. Awesome counters the Baldo Bomb. Albert recovers to splash Awesome in the corner and hits the Baldo Bomb for the win. (*. Mike Awesome deserves so much more than this.)
Final Thoughts:
There’s nothing on this episode worthwhile to checkout. The recaps were enjoyable, but the matches on Metal this week were underwhelming.
