World Wrestling Federation presents Wrestling Challenge
Date: 11/8/1992
From: Regina, Saskatchewan
Matches:
1.) Crush defeated Iron Mike Sharpe
2.) The Headshrinkers defeated Brian Jewel & Bill Jordan
3.) Marty Jannetty defeated Dale Wolfe
4.) Rick Martel defeated Kenny Johnson
5.) Tatanka defeated Blake Beverly
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Paul Bearer and the Undertaker are shown making Kamala’s special coffin for the Survivor Series.
2.) Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan talk about the coffin and Heenan thinks it was made out of fifty trees.
3.) Crush uses a version of the Shock Treatment on Iron Mike Sharpe, which I was not expecting to see. Crush still wins the match with the Kona Vice.
4.) Afa shared pre-tape comments saying the Headshrinkers are the best tag team and that people need to be careful. I can’t recall how often Afa would actually speak in this era. Samu earns the win getting a submission with an STF.
5.) Marty Jannetty shares pre-tape comments during his match saying he’ll take the fine for last week because he enjoyed it. Jannetty suggests Sherri move to the side because this is more than she can handle. Apparently, Jannetty doesn’t care that he broke a mirror over her head. Jannetty wins following a top rope fist drop.
6.) A vignette promoting the return of Bob Backlund to the WWF is shown.
7.) Saturday Night’s Main Event returns next Saturday. This is is the first ad I’ve seen for the event.
8.) Rick Martel shared pre-tape comments claiming that Tatanka gave him the flowers and calls Tatanka an Indian giver. Martel promises Tatanka will lose a lot more than flowers at the Survivor Series. Martel won his match with the Boston Crab.
9.) They show the full interview of Ric Flair and Razor Ramon that took place on Superstars last week. They had promoted this as being exclusive to Wrestling Challenge, which is not the case.
10.) Mean Gene hosts the Survivor Series Report, which is just under three weeks away on PPV. We hear from the Ultimate Maniacs. Warrior says they have a bond and they are out of control. Savage shows off Warrior’s back as being the wall that Ramon and Flair have backed themselves into and there’s no escape. Savage says they know how to survive and they will survive at the Survivor Series. There’s an updated match. The Bushwhackers have stepped aside for the Nasty Boys to team up with the Natural Disasters against WWF Tag Team Champions Money Inc. and the Beverly Brothers. WWF World Champion Bret Hart shared some thoughts about his match with Shawn Michaels. Hart says the championship says it all. They have a lot of speed and a lot of moves. Hart says Michaels hasn’t gone the distance he has to win the championship. Hart promises Sherri will not be a factor and it will be the two of them at Survivor Series.
11.) The Genius does a poem saying that Blake Beverly is a gift from him to us, and he’s in the main event.
12.) Tatanka runs down and clotheslines Beau on the aisle. Blake stomps Tatanka on the mat a few times to gain the advantage. Tatanka hip tosses Blake followed by a scoop slam. Tatanka clotheslines Blake over the top to the floor. Blake gets back in the ring and kicks Tatanka after faking a handshake. Blake goes to the apron and taunts the crowd, but is pulled back into the ring and dropped to the mat face first. Tatanka rams Blake into the corner a few times to keep the advantage. Blake clubs Tatanka over the back a few times followed by dropping Tatanka over the top rope throat first. Blake delivers a neckbreaker for a two count. Blake controls Tatanka with a sleeper on the mat. Tatanka elbows free from Blake, but is met with a kick to the gut and a chop. Tatanka fights back with a few chops. Blake stops Tatanka with a powerslam and leaps off the middle rope missing a splash attempt. Tatanka strikes Blake several times in the midsection. Tatanka backdrops Blake followed by a clothesline. Tatanka chops Blake coming off the ropes and delivers an overhand chop. Tatanka comes off the ropes with another overhand chop before leaping off the top to chop Blake. Blake misses a splash in the corner and Tatanka finishes Blake off with a Samoan Drop for the clean win. (**. That wasn’t too bad of a match, really. A clean finish too is always good with me between two established names.)
13.) A vignette promoting the return of Bam-Bam Bigelow is shown.
14.) Next week, Natural Disasters, Yokozuna, Razor Ramon and a special interview with WWF World Champion Bret Hart. Shawn Michaels battles Big Bossman in a feature match.
15.) Shawn Michaels says when you look as good as him you don’t respect a lot of things and that include authority. Michaels will show Bossman how to earn respect. Bossman chimes in and says Michaels should have been taught respect by his parents. Bossman promises he’ll beat respect into Michaels next week.
Final Thoughts:
An easy hour program this week for Wrestling Challenge. Survivor Series is shaping up nicely. The idea of Hart vs. Michaels in the main event is a wild turn of events when you compare WWF main events in previous months or years, but we’re entering a new generation and the young guard has a chance to thrive.
Thanks for reading.
