Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Missy Hyatt hosts the program and runs down what we’ll be seeing, but not any of the matches. We’ll get another profile by Teddy Long and a mat classic featuring the Steiner Brothers from three years ago. Hyatt notes that Michael Hayes is managing Bobby Eaton & Arn Anderson now.
2.) Sting & Nikita Koloff won their enhancement match in quick fashion when Sting forced Cook to submit to the Scorpion Death Lock.
3.) Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko promote what we’ll see including a six man tag main event. Schiavone notes WCW United States Champion Rick Rude has issued a challenge to WCW World Champion Ron Simmons. Zbyszko thinks Simmons has fear and doubt toward Rude.
4.) Vader & Super Invader dominate their enhancement match and won when Vader pinned Carter following a powerbomb.
5.) Teddy Long provides his next profile focusing on Bobby Eaton and Arn Anderson, who now have Michael Hayes associated with them as they are attempting to regain the WCW Tag Team Championships. Long believes they are more intense and focused with Hayes in their corner. We see footage from WCW Worldwide where they won a tag match recently. They also show footage from Clash where Hayes was introduced as officially being with Eaton and Anderson.
6.) The mat classic is the Steiner Brothers battling the Freebirds from Clash of the Champions VIII. It’s not the whole match, but rather clips of the battle.
7.) Van Hammer won his enhancement following a slingshot suplex.
8.) WCW World Champion Ron Simmons won his enhancement match following a powerslam.
9.) Missy By The Mail hosted by Missy Hyatt is next. Hyatt talks about WCW United States Champion Rick Rude issuing a challenge to WCW World Champion Ron Simmons. The challenge was made recently on an episode of WCW Worldwide. Rude promised Simmons will be the shortest reigning WCW World Champion. Simmons tells Rude that luck didn’t win the belt, but he’s a bad man. Footage from WCW Saturday Night where another confrontation took place. Rude told Simmons to enjoy it while he can and told Simmons the contract has been signed already and Simmons has to defend against him. Rude isn’t even confident that Simmons can beat Cactus Jack.
10.) Cactus Jack won his enhancement match following a double arm DDT.
11.) Rhodes and Valentine kickoff the main event with Rhodes nailing Valentine with a clothesline and dropkick. Valentine holds the ropes to avoid a dropkick, but misses an elbow drop. Rhodes slams Valentine and slams Valentine’s leg over the apron. Valentine strikes Rhodes a few times and Rhodes drives Valentine down with a knee breaker. Rhodes tries to lock in the figure four, but Valentine blocks it. Slater tags into the match and shoulder rams Rhodes. Rhodes elbows Slater in the corner and hip tosses Slater. Steamboat tags into the match and ducks a clothesline to hit a crossbody for a two count. Steamboat puts a headlock on Slater to keep control on the mat. Slater backs Steamboat into the ropes, but Steamboat strikes Slater and snapmares Slater. Windham enters and dropkicks Slater coming off the ropes. Barbarian enters the match, but Windham takes Barbarian down with a headlock. Rhodes tags in and nails Barbarian with a clothesline for a two count. Steamboat tags into the match and leaps off the middle rope to strike Barbarian followed by chops. Steamboat snapmares Barbarian and keeps a chin lock on Barbarian, but doesn’t get a submission.
Steamboat forearm drops Barbarian, but Barbarian responds with a strike. Steamboat runs the ropes and Barbarian delivers a backbreaker. Valentine enters and chops Steamboat into the corner. Steamboat chops Valentine to the mat, but is stopped from tagging out. Slater enters and stomps Steamboat on the mat followed by a side Russian leg sweep for a two count. Slater tries for a suplex, but Steamboat hits a snap suplex. Valentine tags in and is kicked away by Steamboat. Valentine counters a slam landing on top for a two count. Steamboat fights back with chops to drop Valentine to a knee. Slater enters and kicks Steamboat and hits a back elbow as Steamboat comes off the ropes. Slater drives Steamboat down with a backbreaker. Valentine strikes Steamboat in the corner several times. Steamboat fights out of the corner and tries to tag his partners, but is stopped by Valentine. Windham gets tagged in and cleans house on the heels. Windham backdrops Valentine. Windham clotheslines Valentine, but is stopped by Slater. Everyone starts brawling. Windham gets a rollup on Valentine, but Barbarian nails Windham with a big boot allowing Valentine to pickup the victory. (**1/4. A decent six man tag match. We saw this finish earlier as they are trying to put over Barbarian as a viable heel threat, but this is the first time the whole match was shown. I thought it was an average bout with the crowd providing some good energy.)
Final Thoughts:
A good episode of Power Hour with some fun enhancement matches and the six man tag was fine for what it was. I’m looking forward to the idea of Rude challenging Simmons for the World Title, as well.
Thanks for reading.
