Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) This week, Vince McMahon, Jim Duggan, Hillbilly Jim, Bobby Heenan and Mr. Perfect are on the panel. McMahon hypes up what we’re scheduled to see on the program. They hype up WWF World Champion Bret Hart in action against the Berzerker tonight. They bicker about Hart taking the championship from Ric Flair. Heenan thinks that Berzerker could win the title tonight with a snap of a finger.
2.) We see footage of Marty Jannetty’s recent return on Superstars where Jannetty attacked Michaels and ended up breaking a mirror over Sherri’s head.
3.) Jannetty and Skinner lockup, but neither man gets a clear advantage at the start. Skinner takes Jannetty down with a headlock, but Jannetty counters three times with a head scissors on the mat. They bridge up out of a pin with Jannetty getting a backslide for a two count and regains control with a headlock. Jannetty springboards out of the corner to keep a headlock on Skinner. Jannetty avoid a monkey flip with a strike on the mat. Skinner strikes Jannetty, but misses Jannetty coming off the ropes. Jannetty almost wins with a rollup. Jannetty head scissors Skinner to the mat. Jannetty pummels Skinner in the corner. Skinner avoids a splash in the corner and Jannetty crashes over the ropes to the floor. Skinner misses a strike and Jannetty slides into the ring. Skinner keeps Jannetty on the mat bridging backward while locking Jannetty’s legs. Skinner stomps on Jannetty’s leg on the mat followed by a splash to the knee. Skinner continues to kick Jannetty on the leg and falls backward yanking on the left knee followed by a kick. Jannetty sends Skinner into the corner chest first. Jannetty strikes Skinner in the midsection a few times. Jannetty elbows Skinner coming off the ropes. Jannetty delivers a dropkick to Skinner coming off the ropes. Jannetty scoop slams Skinner, but Skinner stops Jannetty with a headbutt to the midsection. Jannetty atomic drops Skinner, but on his bad knee. Skinner works over Jannetty with a kick in the corner. Jannetty drives Skinner down to the mat face first before heading to the top rope. Jannetty leaps off hitting a fist drop for the win. (*1/2. Skinner didn’t do much here to seem like a threat to Jannetty. Jannetty being back brings a good in-ring worker back to a depleted midcard.)
4.) The panel talks about Rick Martel potentially ending Tatanka’s undefeated streak at Survivor Series. Jim Duggan thinks the law of averages will catch up with Tatanka at some point. Heenan thinks Blake Beverly is going to beat Tatanka to end the undefeated streak. They wrestled on Wrestling Challenge, which Heenan was on commentary for and would know that Tatanka won the match. They also promote Coliseum Video releases coming out just in time for the holidays.
5.) A vignette promoting the return of Bam-Bam Bigelow to the WWF is shown.
6.) Survivor Series Report hosted by Mean Gene is up next. Gene runs down the card that has already been announced. There were repetitive promos by the Ultimate Maniacs, Big Bossman and WWF World Champion Bret Hart.
7.) Demento controls Spicolli with a hammerlock, but Spicolli counters with a head scissors on the mat leading to a standoff. Demento gets out of another head scissors and they have a standoff again. Demento strikes Spicolli several times and rams Spicolli into the corner. Demento misses a clothesline. Spicolli comes off the ropes for a rollup. Demento tries for a back suplex, but Spicolli counters with a headlock. Demento breaks free with a back suplex. Demento strikes Spicolli over the back a few times. Demento delivers a leaping shoulder block. Demento leg drops Spicolli and rams Spicolli into the corner. Demento strikes Spicolli in the corner several times. Demento strikes Spicolli in the corner followed by a kick to the midsection. Demnto elbows Spicolli coming off the ropes. Demento rams Spicolli into the corner followed by more strikes. Spicolli strikes Demento, but Demento avoids a middle rope crossbody. Demento clotheslines Spicolli coming off the ropes. Demento delivers a neckbreaker. Demento finishes off Spicolli with a knee drop for the win. (*. Obviously this is mostly a squash match. Demento isn’t all that great, but has a unique look. The knee drop is a bit of a lame finisher. I think the neckbreaker would have been a better finish for him.)
8.) Berzerker backs Hart against the ropes, but cleanly backs off as Mr. Fuji yells orders to Berzerker. Hart gains control with a top wrist lock, but Berzerker yanks Hart down to the mat by his hair. Hart gains wrist control again, but is yanked down by his hair. Hart continues to put a wrist lock on Berzerker followed by strikes. Hart ducks a clothesline and clotheslines Berzerker over the top to the floor. Berzerker regroups on the floor. Berzerker kicks Hart followed by an overhand strike to the back. Hart hip tosses Berzerker coming off the ropes. Berzerker kicks Hart followed by a forearm strike. Berzerker scoop slams Hart followed by a piledriver. Berzerker misses a knee drop attempt. Hart atomic drops Berzerker and clotheslines Berzerker. Hart hits a side Russian leg sweep for a two count. Hart drives Berzerker down with a backbreaker. Hart leaps off the middle rope to deliver a forearm drop. Hart goes for the Sharpshooter and locks it in forcing a submission to win the match. (1/2*. I don’t think I was expecting Berzerker to job out so quickly and convincingly. I suppose it puts over Hart big to make a guy like Berzerker submit. I don’t think I ever expected a submission out of Berzerker.)
9.) WWF World Champion Bret Hart joins the show via satellite and says hello to both Jim’s. Perfect calls Hart lucky and Heenan considers Hart a fluke. Perfect tells Hart the next time Hart wrestles Ric Flair that Flair will be a three-time WWF World Champion. Heenan and Perfect refuse to give props to Hart for winning the championship. McMahon notes nobody has defended the championship as often as Hart has done since winning the title. McMahon promotes a title defense on Saturday’s Night Main Event where WWF World Champion Bret Hart defends against Papa Shango. Heenan says Hart is going to burn himself out by defending the title all over the globe. Hart notes that Heenan picked Canada for the title match with Flair in the first place. Hart asks if Perfect ever taught Flair how to get out of the Sharpshooter. Hart tells Heenan to not call him a dummy. Heenan claims he put down Sacramento and since Jack Tunney is Canadian he signed the match elsewhere. Hart puts over Shango has a vicious wrestler and Michaels a great technical wrestler. Hart is going to accept all challenges with the people supporting him and feels as if he can’t be beaten.
10.) The panel talks about Ric Flair trying to regain the WWF World Championship, but also focusing on the tag match at Survivor Series while teaming with Razor Ramon, whom he’s never teamed with before. McMahon brings up an inner ear issue impacting Flair’s balance, but Heenan and Perfect don’t know anything about this. Heenan has heard that Hart whacked Flair pretty good to cause the injury.
11.) A vignette promoting Bob Backlund’s return to the WWF is shown.
12.) Taylor arm drags Powers to kickoff the match and taunts Powers for a moment. Powers puts a headlock on Taylor, but is met with a hip toss. Taylor knee lifts Powers followed by a scoop slam and taunts Powers again. Taylor shoulder blocks Powers, but Powers fights back with a scoop slam to send Taylor reeling to the floor. Powers shoves Taylor away and they have a standoff. Taylor backs Powers into a corner to deliver a strike, but Powers fights back with a right hand. Powers takes Taylor down to the mat with a side headlock. Powers controls Taylor with a side headlock for a moment until Taylor strikes Powers in the corner. Taylor palm strikes Powers. Powers hip tosses Taylor coming off the ropes and keeps control with a headlock on the mat. Taylor stops Powers with a jawbreaker and drives Powers to the mat with a backbreaker for a two count. Taylor continues his offense with a swinging neckbreaker for a near fall. Taylor runs into a boot in the corner. Powers ducks a strike and atomic drops Taylor. Powers rams Taylor into the corner head first several times. Powers clotheslines Taylor out of the corner. Powers strikes Taylor and delivers a knee lift. Powers nails Taylor with a dropkick for a near fall. Taylor knee strikes Powers in the corner and tries to use the ropes for leverage, but the referee saw it. Powers gets a two count with a rollup, but Taylor cuts Powers off with a clothesline. Taylor misses a strike and Powers hits a crossbody for a two count. Taylor strikes Powers over the back and hits a sit down powerbomb for the win. (**. Taylor using a sit down powerbomb as his finisher is always going to be a bit jarring to me. I thought this was a decent competitive match.)
13.) The panel talks about Sean Mooney being on his honeymoon and Heenan says Mooney is back, but it’s Jameson at the WWF Event Center.
Final Thoughts:
An average episode this week as there was a some good focus on WWF World Champion Bret Hart to promote his future title defenses. WWF appears to be having an influx of talent in the coming weeks, so that should also help freshen up TV a little bit.
Thanks for reading.
