Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Missy Hyatt opens the show running down the card that we’ll be seeing on the program this week. Nikita Koloff battles Jake Roberts, and we’ll get a light heavyweight tag match.
2.) Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes won their enhancement match when Windham pinned Rose after a clothesline.
3.) Jim Ross provides a rundown on the Halloween Havoc card. WCW World Champion Ron Simmons cut a promo saying the best man between or Barbarian will walk out as the champion. WCW United States Champion Rick Rude cut a promo on Masahiro Chono saying Chono is the fan favorite coming to the USA, but the fans will be heartbroken. Jake Roberts provided comments telling Sting it will be first and last time spinning the wheel. Sting can’t wait to get to Havoc and make the deal.
4.) The Barbarian won his enhancement match following a big boot.
5.) Teddy Long does a wrestler profile on Nikita Koloff. They highlight his match with Magnum TA from September 1986.
6.) The mat classic is a match between Cactus Jack and Mil Mascaras from Clash of the Champions X.
7.) Flamingo and Armstrong kickoff the tag match. Armstrong wants a piece of Pillman, who does tag into the match. Pillman circles the ring, but tags back out to Flamingo. Armstrong gets a wrist lock on Flamingo to gain early control and takes Flamingo down with a headlock. Flamingo knee lifts Armstrong followed by a strike. Pillman enters and wants to handshake Armstrong, but cheap shots Armstrong. They run the ropes leading to Armstrong decking Flamingo on the apron. Pillman strikes Armstrong, but Bagwell enters and all four men are in the ring. Flamingo and Pillman are sent into each other and met with dropkicks sending them to the floor. Bagwell tags into the match to square off with Flamingo. Flamingo tags in Pillman after getting arm control and Pillman axe handles Bagwell from the middle rope. Pillman shoulder blocks Bagwell, but Bagwell hip tosses Pillman and Flamingo. Armstrong decks Pillman to the floor and Bagwell knocks Flamingo outside of the ring, as well. Pillman kicks Bagwell in the midsection to avoid a test of strength. Pillman and Bagwell trade chops until Pillman gains control and tags in Flamingo.
Flamingo controls Bagwell with a headlock and shoulder blocks Bagwell. Bagwell scoop slams Flamingo for a two count and gains headlock control. Armstrong returns to the match and keeps a headlock on Flamingo. Armstrong head scissors Flamingo out of the corner. Pillman enters and chop blocks Armstrong on the left knee. Flamingo quickly goes after the left knee to keep control. Pillman tags back in and elbow drops Armstrong on the knee. Pillman strikes Armstrong coming off the ropes and Armstrong is met with a double clothesline to the chest and back for a two count. Flamingo keeps Armstrong on the mat with a leg lock. Pillman yanks on Armstrong’s legs and keeps control after punching Bagwell on the apron. Armstrong is double teamed in the corner. Flamingo kicks Armstrong on the knee and delivers an elbow drop. Armstrong kicks Flamingo on the side of the head.
Pillman and Bagwell get hot tags. Bagwell backdrops Pillman and decks Flamingo. Bagwell slams Pillman and clotheslines Flamingo. Bagwell pummels Pillman in the corner with right hands. Pillman gets a crucifix pin with Flamingo holding Bagwell’s legs from the apron allowing for the three count. (**1/2. A solid enough tag match between these four guys. There wasn’t any aerial offense that you may expect considering the division. It kind of renders the division pointless to me. Pillman’s chop block on Armstrong was fantastic and that upped the interest in the match from there on.)
8.) Missy Does The Mail hosted by Missy Hyatt is next. Hyatt notes that Vader hasn’t been on television for three weeks as he hasn’t been seen since the Clash. Harley Race promises that Vader is making his way back to WCW and he’s been working out like crazy to be even better. Race says that there’s not a belt that isn’t up for grabs for Vader. No matter who is holding it, Vader is coming for it. Hyatt believes Race and Vader have a game plan. Hyatt also brings up Steve Austin and puts over his talent. We see a clip of Austin cutting a promo on Worldwide. Austin talked about the wrestler of the 90s and says that a new and improved Steve Austin will appear soon and he will be the WCW World Champion. Hyatt notes that Paul E. Dangerously wasn’t with Austin for the promo.
9.) Roberts starts off jabbing Koloff in the corner. Koloff gets wrist control and shoulder blocks Roberts to the mat. Koloff knee drops Roberts on the arm while keeping arm control. Koloff shoulder blocks Roberts to the mat and Roberts goes to the corner. Koloff controls Roberts on the mat with a hammerlock. Roberts knee lifts Koloff followed by a strike. Koloff shoulder blocks Roberts again and this time Roberts bails to the floor. Koloff flexes in the ring to taunt Roberts and gets wrist control again. Roberts tries to go to the apron, but is yanked back into the ring. Roberts runs around ringside and knee lifts Koloff over the middle rope followed by a knee drop. Roberts elbows Koloff over the apron. Roberts strikes Koloff with a strike to the midsection. Roberts keeps Koloff on the mat with a chin lock. Roberts uses the ropes for leverage, but Koloff doesn’t submit. Koloff tries to get up, but Roberts brings Koloff back to the mat. Roberts keeps control with a headlock. Koloff elbows Roberts to break free and runs the ropes, but is met with a knee lift. Roberts atomic drops Koloff to the mat for a two count.
Roberts goes back to a sleeper on the mat. Koloff kicks Roberts, but Roberts regains control with strikes. Koloff nails Roberts with a boot in the corner and delivers right hands. Koloff scoop slams Roberts and shoulder blocks Roberts. Koloff leaps off the middle rope to shoulder block Roberts. Cactus Jack comes out, but Sting arrives and attacks Cactus. Roberts throws Koloff over the top to the floor causing a disqualification. After the match, Sting attacks Roberts, but Cactus helps out and holds Sting for Roberts. Koloff returns to the ring with a chair to chase the heels. (1/2*. This match was lifeless and had zero crowd interest. They didn’t do anything of entertainment. The crowd only cared once Sting came out and brawled. I was a bit shocked by how little the crowd cared about anything going on here.)
Final Thoughts:
The main event left a sour taste in my mouth as it was a massive disappointment. The light heavyweight tag match was a good encounter, but overall this show was average at best.
Thanks for reading.
