Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Missy Hyatt runs down the card for the program today, which includes a match between Brian Pillman and Brad Armstrong.
2.) Sting, Dustin Rhodes & Nikita Koloff won their enhancement match when Koloff pinned Cazana after the Russian Sickle.
3.) Jim Ross hosts the Halloween Havoc Control Center which focuses on the recent interaction between WCW World Champion Ron Simmons and the duo of Cactus Jack and The Barbarian. That led to a tag match later on in the program. Barbarian nailed Simmons with a big boot and a top rope diving headbutt. Cactus Jack shared a pre-tape promo saying it sounds like the end of Simmons title reign is coming. Ross runs down the remainder of the card. Jake Roberts shared pre-tape promo saying that WCW doesn’t want to be responsible for the match stipulation between him and Sting. Roberts thinks it will be the end of Sting’s career, or his if it’s Sting lucky day. They are going to sign papers to make sure WCW isn’t liable.
4.) Teddy Long does a wrestler profile on Van Hammer. We see Hammer’s music video, which is Hammer playing guitar. We see footage from Clash of the Champions back on January 21st where Hammer battled Cactus Jack.
5.) Shane Douglas won his enhancement match following a belly to belly suplex.
6.) The Barbarian and Butch Reed won their tag match following a middle rope shoulder block by Reed to Garvin. Here’s the thing, this went around eight minutes and I had almost zero interest in watching this largely because of Garvin. Also, I am stunned that Reed got the pin and not Barbarian since Reed is not long for the company at this point.
7.) Missy Does The Mail is hosted by Missy Hyatt and she talks about the young guys who have entered the company. We get a music video highlighting Shane Douglas in action. Hyatt also talks about Erik Watts and his previous college football experience. Hyatt brings up Dustin Rhodes and we see footage from Worldwide where Rhodes challenged Rick Rude for the WCW United States Championship. Rhodes appears to be a mentor for Erik Watts in WCW. Hyatt reveals all three men are single and she compliments their looks.
8.) Armstrong backs Pillman into a corner, but cleanly backs off as Pillman cowards in the corner. Pillman knee lifts Armstrong followed by a chop. Pillman rams Armstrong into the corner and leapfrogs over Armstrong, but is knocked through the ropes to the floor where Pillman recovers on the aisle. Armstrong gets hammerlock control, but Pillman counters until a back elbow staggers Pillman. Pillman regains control with chops in the corner. Armstrong arm drags Pillman to the floor and Pillman is frustrated on the floor. Pillman forearms Armstrong, but is met with a shoulder block. Pillman fakes a knee injury and Armstrong gets chop blocked. Pillman seems to be awfully proud of himself. Pillman yanks Armstrong down onto the apron knee first and heads to the middle rope hitting an axe handle for a two count. Pillman elbow drops Armstrong on the left knee to keep control of the bout.
Pillman keeps control, but Armstrong almost wins with an inside cradle. Armstrong pulls himself up, but Pillman keeps working over the left knee. Armstrong puts a sleeper on Pillman, but Pillman hits a back suplex for a two count. Pillman rams Armstrong into the corner and they trade strikes. Pillman delivers a knee breaker and locks in a figure four leg lock. Armstrong gets the crowd behind him and rolls over to counter the hold. Pillman reaches the ropes to break the hold. They trade chops in the corner. Pillman heads to the top rope, but Armstrong stops Pillman and slams Pillman off the top! Armstrong strikes Pillman and delivers an uppercut. Armstrong headbutts Pillman into the corner. Pillman boots Armstrong and delivers a spinning heel kick for a two count. Pillman scoop slams Armstrong and heads to the middle rope, but Armstrong got his knees up. Armstrong hits a side Russian leg sweep, but Pillman gets is foot underneath the ropes. Armstrong ducks a wild strike and gets a rollup, but Pillman counters and uses the ropes for leverage to win the match. (***. I though this was a good TV match. I love the chop block by Pillman to Armstrong because its something he always does to Armstrong and it for some reason adds to the match each time. These two have had a fun TV feud.)
Final Thoughts:
A good episode of Power Hour with a fun main event. Havoc looks to have a solid card thus far.
Thanks for reading.
