Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Jim Ross and Michael PS Hayes host the program and promote Halloween Havoc, which is taking place in less than two hours.
2.) This is Johnny Gunn’s debut, which originally aired on Worldwide.
3.) Gunn backs DDP into a corner, but cleanly backs off. Gunn gets a hammerlock on DDP, but DDP elbows Gunn and delivers a scoop slam. DDP misses an elbow drop and Gunn hits an arm drag to send DDP reeling into the corner. DDP controls Gunn with a wrist lock and strikes Gunn over the arm. DDP takes Gunn down to the mat, but Gunn gets a head scissors on the mat. DDP and Gunn counter each other on the mat a few times. Gunn counters with a hammerlock on the mat and knee drops DDP on the back. Gunn takes DDP down to the mat and leg drops DDP on the arm as the show goes to commercial.
DDP knee lifts Gunn against the ropes. DDP holds onto the ropes to avoid a rollup. Gunn misses a crossbody and hits the ropes throat first. DDP delivers a jawbreaker and elbows Gunn over the neck. DDP knee lifts Gunn and delivers a shoulder ram. DDP snapmares Gunn and keeps control with a neck vice and knee drops Gunn on the back. DDP yanks Gunn down to the mat by his hair and delivers an elbow drop. DDP covers Gunn for a two count and switches to a sleeper on the mat. Gunn elbows DDP, but ducks a clothesline only for DDP to hit a second attempt. Gunn and DDP trade strikes until DDP shoulder rams Gunn in the corner. Gunn kicks DDP in the corner followed by a clothesline. Gunn nails DDP with an elbow strike and a forearm smash. Gunn plants DDP with a tilt a whirl slam for the win. (**. Not a bad bout between these as it was fairly competitive. Gunn looked decent in his comeback offense and the tilt a whirl slam isn’t a bad finisher for him.)
4.) Missy Hyatt wants to find out some more about Johnny Gunn for next week and promotes Halloween Havoc.
5.) There will be a King of the Cable tournament starting in November.
6.) Jim Ross hosts the Halloween Havoc 1992 Control Center. It’s the same control center we’ve seen several times at this point.
7.) Tony Atlas won his enhancement match when Byrd passed out to the full nelson submission.
8.) Sting cuts a pre-tape promo saying he can’t wait any longer for his match with Jake Roberts tonight. Sting says there will be a wave of people tonight coming after Roberts. Sting doesn’t care what the stipulation is as long as he’s got Roberts in the ring.
9.) Madusa provides another promo saying that WCW United States Champion Rick Rude is prepared for his two matches tonight at Halloween Havoc. Madusa says that Bill Watts can try and prevent them from winning Havoc, but it’s not going to happen. Madusa reminds Koloff what she did to him at the Omni back in August when she kicked Koloff and cost him the title match.
10.) Austin and Steamboat kickoff the tag match with Austin taking Steamboat over with a headlock for a moment, but Steamboat counters and they have a standoff. Austin controls Steamboat with another headlock, but Steamboat breaks free and Austin complains of a hair pull. Austin shoulder blocks Steamboat, but Steamboat responds with several chops sending Austin to the apron. Steamboat suplexs Austin back into the ring and keeps headlock control on the mat. Steamboat chops Austin and tags in Douglas to hit a double dropkick. Pillman is backdropped by both men and they are knocked to the floor. Douglas elbows Austin for a two count. Austin backs Douglas into the corner and delivers a few strikes. Douglas fights free and pulls Pillman into the ring as all four men are brawling. Douglas hip tosses Pillman, but Pillman sends Douglas chest first into the corner. Pillman rams Douglas into the corner and continues with a chop. Pillman leaps off the middle rope, but is met with a strike in midair. Douglas atomic drops and dropkicks Pillman to the floor. Pillman kicks Douglas and tags in Austin. Austin kicks Douglas in the midsection. Douglas forearms Austin and tries for a crucifix pin, but Austin kicks out at two. Steamboat snapmares Austin and keeps sleeper control on the mat. Steamboat keeps a sleeper on Austin and is backed into the ropes. Austin shoulder rams Steamboat against the ropes several times. Steamboat leapfrogs Austin, but Austin yanks Steamboat to the mat as the show goes to commercial.
Pillman rams Steamboat into the corner to keep control. Steamboat backslides Pillman for a near fall. Pillman rams Steamboat face first onto the mat as Douglas tries to get involved and is distracting the referee. Austin rolls Steamboat into the ring. Pillman chops Steamboat into the corner, but Steamboat responds with a chop out of the corner. Pillman clubs Steamboat over the back. Steamboat kicks Pillman away, but Pillman drop toe holds Steamboat. Austin stomps Steamboat and rams Steamboat into the corner. Austin shoulder rams Steamboat in the corner. Steamboat fights back with chops. Steamboat kicks Austin away in the corner. Pillman stomps Steamboat followed by a scoop slam and an elbow drop. Pillman scoop slams Steamboat and heads to the middle rope missing a splash as Steamboat got his knees up. Austin tries to prevent the tag, but Douglas gets tagged in.
Douglas elbows Austin coming off the ropes and delivers slams to both Austin and Pillman. Douglas rams Austin into Pillman as Steamboat returns and all four men are brawling. Douglas pummels Pillman in the corner as Austin tosses Steamboat to the floor. Pillman shoulder rams Douglas in the corner and Austin decks Douglas from behind. Austin stomps Douglas on the mat. Austin decks Steamboat on the apron and sits Douglas on the top turnbuckle. Douglas shoves Austin away, but can’t tag in Steamboat as Austin tackles Douglas to the mat. Austin strikes Douglas on the mat, but only gets a two count. Pillman enters the match and clubs Douglas over the back. Pillman puts a front face lock on Douglas, but Douglas tags in Steamboat only for the referee to not have seen it. Douglas is double teamed and Austin gets a two count. Steamboat gets the tag again, but the referee didn’t see it. Pillman axe handles Douglas and eventually all four men are in the ring brawling. Douglas clotheslines Austin to the floor and Steamboat strikes Pillman. Pillman tosses Douglas over the top to the floor for the cheap disqualification. (**1/2. They made good use of the time given and it was a fairly standard tag match, but they were working a good TV style match. The finish was a bit cheap and an easy out for the match to avoid anyone doing a clean job just an hour before the PPV airs tonight.)
Final Thoughts:
I thought this was a good show for a final stop before Halloween Havoc. The in-ring action wasn’t too bad and overall Havoc has had much better hype on TV than I had ever previously thought.
