Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Backstage, Dawn Marie meets with Steve Corino and knows that Corino didn’t mean to kick her last week. Corino says there are no hard feelings and his focus is on Justin Credible and Rhino. Credible tells Dawn that New Jack is here to watch his back. New Jack enters the scene and says they have stepped over a line that shouldn’t ever be crossed. Jack promises to do damage that has never been seen before. Jack wants to put a screwdriver in their forehead and twist it. Jack wants to treat Francine like a man. Jack can’t stand Victory and Corino. Jack also insults Dawn Marie. He’s on a mission though and wants to take out Credible and Rhino tonight. Jack is going to teach Corino and he’s going to learn well tonight. Jack brings up chili sauce and says it’s not what Dawn thinks it is. Corino tells Dawn to stay in the locker room. Victory says that they are staying backstage. Dawn asks if the couch is a casting couch, but Victory says it’s not. Dawn just wants to be on television and gets on a table to tap dance for the camera.
2.) ECW Television Champion Rhino cuts a promo on Corino and Jack. Rhino says he’s going to leave them in a puddle of their own blood. Rhino is going to have them dreaming of him and thinking of his name.
3.) Matthews and Whipwreck kickoff the match with Matthews delivering a shoulder block. Whipwreck avoids a dropkick and gets a rollup for a two count leading to a standoff. York tags into the match and Tajiri enters the match as well. They do a test of strength with York getting the advantage. Tajiri breaks free to put a hammerlock on York for a moment. York arm drags Tajiri leading to another standoff. Tajiri kicks York and to avoid a handshake and Whipwreck tags into the match. Tajiri has York over his knee and Whipwreck hits a slingshot leg drop. Matthews enters the match and Whipwreck hits a neckbreaker followed by a slingshot senton by Tajiri. Matthews is kicked off the apron and onto the railing. Tajiri avoids a clothesline by York and York is sent into the railing a couple of times. Matthews is also sent into the railing and chopped several times. Whipwreck hits a top rope clothesline on Matthews for a two count. Whipwreck misses a clothesline and Matthews drives Whipwreck down with a neckbreaker. York nails Tajiri with a spinning heel kick to send Tajiri to the floor. York goes to the top and slams Matthews onto Whipwreck followed by a senton splash for a two count. York misses a clothesline and Whipwreck hits a standing hurricanrana. Tajiri tags into the match and kicks Matthews. Tajiri handspring back elbows York and trades chops with Matthews. Tajiri mists Matthews and delivers a kick to the face. Whipwreck leg drops Matthews over the bottom rope. York is slammed and rolled over to the mat by both Mikey and Tajiri. York is driven down with a double team brainbuster for the win. (**1/4. A fine tag match that showcased both teams fairly well. York and Matthews are doing a good job in their role as essentially enhancing the bigger teams. Mikey and Tajiri are an awesome tag team and quite underrated when ranking them amongst the best teams to be formed.)
4.) Backstage, Justin Credible and Francine are cutting a promo. Credible has been dying to get his hands on New Jack since Milwaukee. Credible calls Corino a punk for thinking he’s the next big thing. Francine lists the various men that she’s been with and she’s always been with champions, but she’s never been a gangster. Francine suggests that Credible win the title back or she’ll have to reconsider her options. Justin Credible is going to beat Corino and Jack and then go home to beat up Francine.
5.) Backstage, Spike Dudley is pacing back and forth saying he’s tired of people telling him what to do. Spike says he’s wrestling tonight and Chris Hamrick will find out why he’s the giant killer.
6.) Chris Hamrick comes out and has his right knee taped up. Hamrick reveals that he has a knee injury and he can’t wrestle Spike Dudley tonight. Spike still comes out for a match. Spike still has his right leg in a brace recovering from a broken leg.
7.) Hamrick stomps on Spike and Spike tosses a chair into the ring. Hamrick whacks Spike over the back with a chair shot. Hamrick unwraps his knee and chokes Spike with the bandage. Hamrick tosses Spike across the ring. Hamrick tries to slam Spike onto a chair, but Spike counters with an Acid Drop onto the chair for the easy win. After the match, EZ Money and Julio Dinero beat up Spike Dudley until Kid Kash runs down to make the save. Money nails Kash with a clothesline to save Dinero from the Money Maker. Danny Doring and Roadkill slide into the ring to make the save. (NR. It was kind of funny to have to guys with injured legs working each other even if one was faking for a minute. It was not a surprise that Spike won the match quickly. That tends to be the routine for Spike.)
8.) Tommy Dreamer walked past the announcers area and didn’t say a word. Joey Styles wonders what Dreamer was up to.
9.) Jerry Lynn beats on Danny Daniels with chops in the corner. Lynn bulldogs Daniels out of the corner. Lynn spikes Daniels onto the championship with the cradle piledriver and HC Loc counts the pin for Lynn. (NR. Daniels had been a pain for Lynn for months and I’m fine with this being the blowoff of that angle.)
10.) Corino runs into the ring and is double teamed by Credible and Rhino at the start. Corino’s cut forehead is busted open already, but New Jack makes his way down with a trash can full of weapons. Jack hammers away on Credible and Rhino. Jack sends Rhino to the floor and hits Credible with a sickle. Corino and Rhino brawl into the crowd was Credible does a blade job. Jack uses the staple gun on Credible. Corino continues to battle with Rhino in the crowd. Rhino sends Corino into the railing. Corino tosses Rhino onto a table near the back of the arena. Corino sends Rhino into the wall. Corino and Rhino continue to brawl in the crowd while Jack beats on Credible at ringside. Jack hits Credible on the groin in the crowd with a pipe. Rhino tosses a table into the ring. Corino elbow strikes Rhino and gets whacked by a chair. Credible sends Jack into the railing and delivers a few more right hands. Credible low blows Corino in the ring to stop Corino’s momentum. Credible tells Francine to use the kendo stick. Credible has Corino over his shoulder, but Francine accidentally whacks Credible leading to a near fall. Jack whacks Rhino over the head with a weapon shot. Corino waits for Rhino to get up and delivers a superkick. Rhino gets up and is met with a chair shot by Jack off the top and Rhino is pinned! After the match, Credible whacks both Corino and Jack with a kendo stick. Credible chokes Jack in the corner. Rhino puts Jack through the table in the corner. The Sandman’s music hits to join the segment. Sandman ducks a kendo stick shot and takes Credible down with a side Russian leg sweep. Sandman whacks Rhino several times with a kendo stick shot. (*. The aftermath was more entertaining than the match. The match was just your basic brawling and it was mostly boring as a result since it was really repetitive. It’s the kind of match that is probably more enjoyable live than it is watching on television.)
11.) Sandman grabs a microphone to cut a promo. Sandman wants to drink a beer and offers one to Steve Corino. Corino swipes it away and walks off.
12.) Backstage, Jerry Lynn asks Corino if the first aid sign looks familiar. Lynn liked beating Corino up in LA. Lynn asks if Credible remembers the title that he beat him for in Minnesota. Lynn says he’s Sandman’s drinking partner and all three of them want the title. Lynn promises to walk out as the champion at the PPV.
13.) CW Anderson talks about Super Crazy returning to ECW at the PPV and he’s going to spoil his return. CW says his kind of people don’t like their kind of people. Anderson says Crazy will only be able to say Anderson.
14.) Francine cuts a promo saying that whomever wins the championship will get a night with her that they will never forget. Justin Credible enters the segment and backs her off to the locker room.
15.) Big Sal and the ECW Tag Team Champions FBI cut a promo saying that they are the best tag team since they have the gold.
16.) ECW TV Champion Rhino thanks New Jack for pissing him off. Rhino killed Sandman’s wife and RVD wouldn’t show up in his hometown to meet him. Rhino is meeting Jack at the PPV and Jack will find out why he’s the most violent champion. Rhino says his name will be tattooed onto Jack’s brain.
17.) Sinister Minister cuts a promo on the FBI with Whipwreck and Tajiri. They say that the FBI are a comedy act. Minister can’t believe they have decided to get serious out of the blue. Mikey and Tajiri are seriously pissed off and they are going to seriously kick the FBI’s ass.
Final Thoughts:
The show mainly focused on promoting the PPV, but the in-ring stuff was not very good. I’m assuming they ended the Daniels evil referee gimmick when Lynn took him out this week. I’d probably fork over the money for the PPV, but I feel like I would have gotten to a Credible/Corino title match. Lynn’s reign seems to have been thrown together and there’s not much direction for it.
