At Look Back At: The 1998 PWI 500 Rankings

It’s the eighth installment looking back the PWI 500 magazines that have become a popular publication over the years. 1998 saw the WWF get a lead in the ratings war, while WCW was still highly popular. ECW continued to grow throughout the year, as well.

Unlike last year, the number one ranked wrestler is a toss up between a WCW wrestler and a WWF wrestler. There isn’t controversy attached to this years ranking.

Reminder, I don’t look at every wrestler in the magazine, but a full list of the rankings can be found HERE.

The grading period was from August 1st 1997 to August 31st, 1998. Read more

He had fond memories of the event and I was interested in looking up the show to see if it were something I’d like to go to. He attended the show simply because his friend had a spare ticket. So, would you go to this show? Read more

Lenny Lane: The Forgotten Cruiserweight Champion

Former WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Lenny Lane. Remember him?

Former WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Lenny Lane. Remember him?

Often times when people think about the WCW/WWE Cruiserweight Championship wrestlers such as Rey Mysterio Jr., Eddie Guerrero, Billy Kidman, Chris Jericho, Dean Malenko Juventud Guerrera and Chavo Guerrero Jr. are likely to come to mind. Rightfully so as those guys continually put on incredible matches in the mid to late 1990s for World Championship Wrestling. The WCW Cruiserweight Championship became a championship match that fans were almost guaranteed a fantastic match.

Eventually, the repetitive championship switches started to annoy fans. How many times could we deal with seeing Rey Mysterio Jr. beating Juventud or Psychosis to win the championship before it was no longer interesting? WCW took notice and in the summer of 1999 they made a controversial decision. Read more
