After WrestleMania XIV, Shawn Michaels retired from professional wrestling due to a back injury. Many people didn’t think he’d ever return to wrestling. But, like most retirements in professional wrestling, they seem to never stick.
By 2002, Michaels returned to the WWE and had a heated rivalry with Triple H. However, prior to that, Michaels had one other match. That match took place for his own short-lived promotion, TWA. (more…)
In 1992, the World Wrestling Federation went through a rebuilding phase during the second half of the year. From January to June the company had a lot of high level, marquee names that included Hulk Hogan, Sid Justice, Jake Roberts, and Roddy Piper. However, by the summer all of those men were gone. Essentially leaving them only Ric Flair and Randy Savagr as veteran recognizable names. (more…)
On February 7th, 1992 the World Wrestling Federation held a live event in Denver, Colorado. It’s notable for being the show where there was a tag team championship change and was the beginning of a major angle for WrestleMania VIII. On the same day, the WWF also held a show in Newfoundland. So, this is a special installment as we’ll figure out which show we’d rather go to! (more…)
Ricky Steamboat and Shane Douglas don’t like the criticism they’ve gotten in WCW. Dustin Rhodes is bummed about Barry Windham turning on him. Does Randy Savage need a break from wrestling? Being a smaller wrestler is in instead of being a larger than life persona. Kevin Sullivan recent attacks and blood feud with Brian Lee in SMW. All this plus much more in the magazine! (more…)
It’s the eighth installment looking back the PWI 500 magazines that have become a popular publication over the years. 1998 saw the WWF get a lead in the ratings war, while WCW was still highly popular. ECW continued to grow throughout the year, as well.
Unlike last year, the number one ranked wrestler is a toss up between a WCW wrestler and a WWF wrestler. There isn’t controversy attached to this years ranking.
Reminder, I don’t look at every wrestler in the magazine, but a full list of the rankings can be found HERE.
The grading period was from August 1st 1997 to August 31st, 1998. (more…)
1992 is one of my favorite years in professional wrestling. WWF had most of the top names in wrestling and the rise of Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels, plus whacky characters like Papa Shango! WCW had a stellar roster too. But, the focus for this article is on the WWF. I’ll be looking through the year and mention both the good and the bad for what was happening.
Of course, this will be broken up into two parts. Part one will highlight what happened from January 1st to June 30th, 1992. Here we go… (more…)
Hopefully, you like Vic Venom (Vince Russo). He’s in this quite a bit. The hype for the USA vs. Canada feud is heavily featured. Plus, Ahmed Johnson gives us an in-depth look at gang life and what it’s all about. The feud between Mankind and Hunter Hearst Helmsley is highlighted, as well. All that and more! (more…)
Fallout from WrestleMania VIII continues in this edition of WWE Magazine. Shawn Michaels and Sensational sit down for an interview. Papa Shango’s curse on Ultimate Warrior is highlighted. Plus, the Legion of Doom and Beverly Brothers have developed a hatred for each other due to their different upbringings. (more…)
