3.) Larry Santo defeated WCW World Champion Vader by disqualification
4.) Erik Watts defeated Johnny Gunn in a WCW Television Tournament match
5.) WCW United States Champion Dustin Rhodes defeated Paul Orndorff to retain the title
Angle Developments/Notes
1.) Steve Austin and Brian Pillman are interviewed by Jesse Ventura, who thinks they are the top contenders for the tag team titles. Austin agrees that it is just a matter of time before they win the WCW World Tag Team Championships. Austin knows that Steamboat and Douglas remember what they’ve done to them in recent weeks. Pillman says that his lost last week to Bagwell doesn’t count because it wasn’t a match as he was out there signing autographs. Pillman thinks that Bagwell needs a refresher course and wants a piece of Bagwell tonight.
2.) Rhodes works over Orndorff on the apron and brings the challenger into the ring to continue his beating until he runs into a back elbow in the corner. Orndorff drives Rhodes face first into the canvas and continues to stomp away on Rhodes. Orndorff attempts a vertical suplex but Rhodes counters with one of his own and drops an elbow. Rhodes knocks Orndorff to the floor but is dragged to the floor where Orndorff clubs away on the champion. They are trading right hands until Rhodes gets the upper hand and rams Orndorff face first onto the apron. Rhodes controls Orndorff with an arm bar. Rhodes knocks Orndorff off his feet with a kick to the chest for a two count. Orndorff gains control knocking Rhodes to canvas and continues to work over the champion with forearm drops. Rhodes fights back with a standing dropkick and pummels Orndorff with right hands as we go to commercial.
Orndorff sidesteps Rhodes and sends the champion to the floor. Orndorff knee lifts Rhodes off the apron back to the floor, which doesn’t have protective mats. Mr. Wonderful drops Dustin on the floor with a short arm clothesline. Rhodes shoulder rams Orndorff from the apron but is met with a left hand as Orndorff counters a sunset flip. Dustin fights out of a chin lock but they collide and Dustin staggers into a corner where Orndorff continues to have control. Orndorff hangs onto the ropes to avoid a dropkick and clotheslines Rhodes followed by a knee drop. Orndorff works over Rhodes in the corner with knee strikes and elbow shots. Orndorff misses a running elbow strike and Rhodes hits a back suplex. Rhodes has a second wind and begins to deck Orndorff with strikes some more. Rhodes nearly wins following a leaping clothesline. Orndorff pulls Rhodes into the referee and decks Dustin with a clothesline from behind. Orndorff heads to the top rope but misses a knee drop! Rhodes gets an inside cradle on Orndorff and wins the match. (***. Worldwide continues a stretch of some rather entertaining main event matches as they worked a well thought out match and the fans were invested in the action.)
3.) Marcus Alexander Bagwell and Brian Pillman brawl in the ring as the show comes to an end.
Final Thoughts:
Yet another entertaining show for WCW this week. I’m enjoying the Worldwide shows thus far.
Thanks for reading.
