From: Atlanta, GA
Matches:
1.) Johnny B. Badd defeated Ron Vegas
2.) Bunkhouse Buck defeated Al Phillips
3.) Arn Anderson defeated Brad Armstrong
4.) WCW United States Champion Steve Austin defeated Dustin Rhodes
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) We see footage from Japan on May 1st that saw Rick Rude nail Sting with the WCW International Championship after putting a woman in the way. Rude would regain the title after hitting a top rope knee drop. That was an awfully quick title reign for Sting.
2.) Johnny B. Badd is interviewed about his match with Steve Austin at Slamboree for the WCW United States Championship. Johnny thinks the championship will look really good around his waist. Johnny thinks Col. Robert Parker needs to be worried about him taking the WCW United States Championship because he is a bad man.
3.) Dustin Rhodes shared pre-tape comments saying that this time around Bunkhouse Buck won’t be able to runaway from him as they square off in a bull rope match at Slamboree.
4.) Col. Robert Parker is interviewed with his briefcase saying that he has given Ric Flair opportunities to see what he has in the briefcase. He will be sitting front row for the Flair/Steamboat match next week. Bunkhouse Buck comes over and puts himself over as the king of the bunkhouse match. Buck rises bulls all his life because he loves it.
5.) Sensational Sherri is interviewed about her desire to lead someone to the WCW World Championship. Sherri can’t seem to get her hooks into the right man who meets her standards. Sherri says once she gets her hand on her man there will not be a day they regret.
6.) WCW World Champion Ric Flair is interviewed about his match next week with Ricky Steamboat. Flair reminds us that his arm was raised in Chicago at Spring Stampede. Flair gave them the belt since they questioned him. Flair is going to walk the aisle next week and show why he will remain the champion. Arn Anderson comes over following his match and says it is time to put the Four Horsemen back together. Flair is onboard and they will talk about that after his title match next week.
7.) WCW Television Champion Lord Steven Regal and Sir William are interviewed. William isn’t happy about being struck by Larry Zbyszko last week. Regal is angry about having his shirt ripped off by the Living Legend. Regal says that he demands Zbyszko in the ring to get his satisfaction of revenge.
8.) Austin takes Rhodes to the canvas with a side headlock. Rhodes comes back with a hip toss and nearly wins with a rollup. Austin bails to the floor to regroup. Dustin follows and they return to the ring with Dustin controlling Austin with a headlock. Austin gets a head scissors on the canvas but Rhodes gets out of the hold and decks Austin with a right hand. Dustin runs into a back elbow in the corner and Austin continues to have control with a kick to the midsection. Austin stops Rhodes with an apparent low blow but the referee doesn’t stop the match as Rhodes dropkicks the champ. Austin gets out of a sleeper hold with a jaw breaker. Rhodes avoids an elbow drop and hits one of his own for a two count. Austin delivers a knee drop and gets a two count as we got a random shot of a black guy hollering towards the ring.
Rhodes rams Austin head first into the corner and decks Austin with a right hand. Austin sends Dustin to the floor and comes off the apron with an axe handle. Rhodes slams Austin’s knee across the apron several times before being kicked away. Austin drops Dustin throat first across the top rope. Austin hammers away on Rhodes until Dustin plants Austin with a DDT! Austin puts Rhodes on the top rope but is knocked off the middle rope. Rhodes misses an elbow strike but counters a sunset flip by sitting down and delivers right hands, but Austin still gets a near fall. Rhodes drops Austin with a clothesline and has the fans fully behind him. Dustin clotheslines Austin again but only gets a near fall. Dustin hits the running bulldog on a second try. Col. Robert Parker distracts the referee to allow Bunkhouse Buck to hit Rhodes with the bull rope over the back and Austin gets the victory. After the match, Buck enters the ring and attacks Rhodes. Johnny B. Badd comes out and cleans house to make the save for Rhodes. (**1/2. It’s a fine main event with the last few minutes being rather fun. The aftermath did a good job of promoting the two feuds and likely we’ll get a tag match, I’d imagine. I was glad there was actually a pin fall instead of the usual disqualification copout.)
9.) Johnny B. Badd and Dustin Rhodes are interviewed to end the show. Badd says he is sick and tired of Col. Robert Parker interfering in matches. Badd is going to show Steve Austin that he is the new WCW United States Champion at Slamboree. Dustin Rhodes chimes in about Bunkhouse Buck and says that Buck jumps him from behind every time. Dustin says that Parker did the dirty work for Buck. Rhodes says that Buck will not get away from him at Slamboree.
Final Thoughts:
An easy to watch hour program for WCW this week as everything flowed pretty well and there wasn’t any filler this week. The main event was a suitable match and had some entertainment attached to it.
Thanks for reading.
