World Championship Wrestling presents Main Event
Date: 5/22/1994
From: Gainesville, GA

Matches:
1.) Ricky Steamboat & Arn Anderson defeated Pretty Wonderful

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) WCW International Champion Rick Rude says tonight is the night to battle Vader at Slamboree. Rude wonders if Vader has the ability to stay with him in the ring. Rude says it all down to the survival of the fittest.

2.) Vader chimes in and says that Rude is a rat and a punk. Vader doesn’t think that Rude is man enough to stand face to face with him. Vader thinks that Rude showed he is a coward hitting him in the back with a chair.

3.) Anderson and Roma kickoff the tag team main event. They trade a go behinds and Roma locks in a full nelson before Anderson escapes and kicks Roma away. Anderson stomps on Roma’s toes and tries for another kick, but Roma counters it and keeps the full nelson locked in. Anderson headbutts Roma and delivers a few knee drops to Roma’s left knee. Steamboat hits a slingshot stomp to the same knee. Steamboat continues to work over the left knee. Anderson drives Roma down to the mat knee first. Anderson returns to the match and keeps control of Roma on the mat. Roma drops Anderson with his free leg but can’t tag out. Anderson elbows Roma followed by an elbow drop for a two count. Orndorff enters and tosses Anderson into the corner allowing Roma to deliver a splash. Roma stomps on Anderson in the corner and tags in Orndorff. Orndorff rubs Anderson’s face over the top rope.

Orndorff tosses Anderson to the floor where Roma drives Anderson back first into the apron. Orndorff rams Anderson over the guard railing and chokes Anderson with a camera cord. Anderson returns to the ring and is met with a forearm by Orndorff. Roma leaps off the top to nail Anderson with a strike. Anderson tries to tag out, but Roma stops Anderson and drives Anderson into the corner. Orndorff hammers away on Anderson in the corner. Roma scoop slams Anderson and comes off the ropes to hit an elbow drop for a two count. Roma keeps an arm bar on Anderson for a moment, but doesn’t get a submission. Anderson knee lifts free from Roma and comes off the ropes to kick Roma to the mat. Roma decks Steamboat off the apron to prevent a tag. Orndorff returns to the match and keeps Anderson on the mat with a hammerlock. Anderson tries to tag Steamboat, but Orndorff distracts the referee. Roma decks Steamboat anyway with a right hand. Roma knocks Anderson down with a jumping strike to the back. Roma comes off the top to hit a double axe handle. Roma keeps a hammerlock on Anderson and delivers several knee drops. Anderson knees himself free and still can’t tag in Steamboat. Anderson atomic drops Roma and Steamboat gets the tag.

Steamboat cleans house with dropkicks. Steamboat continues with chops to both men. Steamboat rams them into each other head first. Steamboat hits a top rope crossbody for a two count on Roma. Anderson decks Orndorff, but Roma low blows Steamboat. The referee has been distracted. Orndorff hits a piledriver on Steamboat, but Anderson breaks the cover. Anderson plants Roma with a DDT and Steamboat wins the match! (**3/4. I thought that was a good tag match as they told a very good story with Anderson not getting the hot tag on numerous tries. The finish was done very well as I thought for a moment that Pretty Wonderful was going to prevail. I probably would have had them go over, but obviously Steamboat and Anderson have a greater value in WCW.)

Final Thoughts:
It’s pretty bad that they are promoting the Rude/Vader match the morning of the PPV when they know that Rude isn’t going to be able to compete. Despite that, this is a good show thanks to a good feature match.

Thanks for reading.
