ECW Hardcore TV 8/16/1997

Written by: Bob Colling

Extreme Championship Wrestling presents Hardcore TV
Date: 8/16/1997
From: Philadelphia, PA

Matches:
1.) Spike Dudley defeated Bam-Bam Bigelow
2.) Dudley Boys defeated Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney & Hack Myers

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) With ECW coming out of a major event, Born To Be Wired, the matches highlighted here came from that show. Arnold Furious was kind enough to review that show and matches. I’ll be covering the interviews and whatever else happened on TV.

2.) The show starts off with footage from Born To Be Wired, where Tommy Dreamer attacked Rob Van Dam to make sure the match between ECW World Champion Terry Funk and Sabu had a fair finish. Sabu ended up choking Funk with barbed wire and won the ECW World Championship.

3.) Backstage, ECW World Champion Sabu is getting stitched up. RVD asks why Sabu is being such a baby and claims he has a wound, too.

4.) Recently, Sabu got involved in a match between Shane Douglas and Terry Funk in Pittsburgh. Sabu hit a top rope leg drop on Douglas allowing Funk to win the match and defend the title against Sabu. Of course, Sabu went on to win the championship. These three men will be wrestling at Hardcore Heaven.

5.) Jerry Lawler cut a promo saying he’s going to expose crappy wrestlers and he’s going to expose Tommy Dreamer. Lawler dismisses Dreamer for saying he issued a challenge to him. Lawler brags about taking Dreamer out recently in the ECW Arena. Lawler is issuing a challenge to dreamer for Hardcore Heaven. Lawler suggests that Dreamer could be going to heaven. Lawler is going to end this once and for all.

6.) We see another promo by Taz saying he never gets mad and he didn’t get mad preparing for Sabu. Taz gets mad the more he’s talking about Chris Candido and tosses Danny Doring with a suplex before locking in the Taz Mission, too. Taz provided a new promo promising that a crime would be committed by an angry person. He’s not sure he’ll let Candido survive.

7.) Tommy Dreamer cuts a promo about being in the company since the beginning. He’s been through a lot, but ECW is his home. Lawler is an outsider and Dreamer is going to make Lawler feel his pain and he’s going to take him out.

Final Thoughts:
They delivered some good hype for Hardcore Heaven 1997. Lawler/Dreamer appears to have the most heat attached to it compared to the triple threat world title match. Spike’s upset was a nice touch and having Spike/Bigelow added to the PPV should make for a fun undercard match.

Thanks for reading.
