WWF Wrestling Challenge 2/23/1992
World Wrestling Federation presents Wrestling Challenge
Date: 2/23/1992
From: Lubbock, TX
Matches:
1.) Owen Hart & Jim Neidhart defeated Louie Spicolli & Brooklyn Brawler
2.) Papa Shango defeated Todd Overbow
3.) Shawn Michaels defeated Khris Germany
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Bobby Heenan teases that once Savage finds out what WWF World Champion Ric Flair has on him, he’ll be whining big time.
2.) The Beverly Brothers and the Genius cut an insert promo during Owen and Neidhart’s match. Blake asks if they are ready to compete against them. Beau says they are even better than they think they are.
3.) Lord Alfred Hayes hosts Special Report and makes mention of the double main event where Flair defends the WWF World Championship against Randy Savage. Hulk Hogan will be battle Sid Justice. We see footage from SNME where Sid turned on Hogan. There was zero new content for the feud between Sid and Hogan.
4.) After winning his match, Shango attacked his opponents with his wooden stick.
5.) A pre-tape promo by Shawn Michaels airs during his match. Michaels says he throws people out when he’s done with them and that’s the difference between a winner and a loser. Sherri melts looking at him.
6.) WrestleMania VIII Report with Mean Gene, who again, promotes the double main event. Flair and Savage cut promos promoting the match with Flair continuing to say that they know something Savage doesn’t. Savage is going to take advantage of his golden opportunity to regain the WWF World Championship. Sid Justice cuts a promo saying that Hogan was a coward at Royal Rumble. Sid believes fans will know he rules the world at WrestleMania. Hogan cuts a promo saying that this is a matter of pride needing to be settled at WrestleMania. Hogan recalls Sid leaving him for dead at SNME. Hogan promises that Sid will feel the power of Hulkamania.
7.) They show the full match between Randy Savage and Jake Roberts from SNME, but the main takeaway is the exclusive footage that happened after the match. Elizabeth came down to the ring to celebrate with Savage after his victory. After SNME went off the air, Jake Roberts was waiting behind the curtain and has a steel chair promising to hit either Savage or Elizabeth. Elizabeth was first to come through, but the Undertaker was behind Roberts to stop a chair shot. Savage hits Roberts with a chair shot and Taker just stands there with Paul Bearer. This marks the babyface turn for the Undertaker.
Final Thoughts:
I’m really enjoying Shawn Michaels in his new heel persona and his association with Sherri is working very well early on. This is a big episode as it marks the face turn for Undertaker, which he’d be for the next six years. An enjoyable episode of Wrestling Challenge.
Thanks for reading.
