Matches:
1.) Rikishi defeated Redd Dogg
2.) Albert & Bill DeMott defeated Chuck Coates & Pat Cusick
3.) John Cena defeated Danny DeNucci
4.) Crash Holly defeated Funaki
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Redd Dogg has been working mostly in OVW and I believe this is his first TV appearance. Dogg was involved with ECW during their final year and was going to be some kind of bouncer gimmick before the company folded.
2.) Dogg hammers away on Rikishi to get the early advantage, but Rikishi responds with several jabs. Rikishi hits a running clothesline in the corner and Dogg falls in the corner, but bails to the floor. Rikishi nails Dogg with a forearm strike and a belly to belly suplex. Rikishi climbs the ropes looking for a Bonzai Drop, but Dogg avoids it and clotheslines Rikishi. Dogg stomps on Rikishi in the corner followed by right hands. Dogg elbows Rikishi over the apron a few times. Rikishi connects with a Samoan Drop and Dogg goes to the corner. Rikishi hits a running back splash and Dogg falls in the corner again. Rikishi signals for the Stink Face and delivers it. Rikishi plants Dogg with a DDT. Rikishi hits the Bonzai Drop and wins the match. (*. Rikishi is a good opponent for OVW guys because he’s so limited that it is difficult for the OVW guy to mess up. They get some TV exposure and Rikishi gets another TV win.)
3.) The team of Albert and Bill DeMott is one that interests me. Two bully wrestlers and no nonsense guys in the ring. They could be a lot of fun to watch together. They end up winning the extended squash match following a bicycle kick by Albert and the No Laughing Matter by DeMott. The crowd popped for that.
4.) John Cena and Bull Buchanan come out to cut a promo before Cena’s match. Cena cuts a freestyle rap and does a pretty good job. He’s still wearing his basic ring attire.
5.) Crash and Funaki start the match with some wrist locks and headlock counters. Crash holds onto Funaki with a headlock for a few moments. Crash holds onto the ropes, but is tripped by Funaki. Funaki arm drags Crash and keeps control on the mat. Crash scoop slams Funaki, but misses an elbow drop. Funaki continues with an arm drag. Crash is dropped to the mat out of the corner. Crash argues with the referee and shoves Funaki. Funaki keeps control with another arm drag. Crash tries to dump Funaki over the top to the floor, but Crash kicks Funaki to prevent a pull up and Funaki crashes to the floor. Crash hits a vertical suplex. Crash heads to the top and avoids a boot. Funaki connects with a DDT. Crash misses a splash in the corner and Funaki hits a bulldog for a near fall. Funaki dropkicks a kneeling Crash for a near fall. Funaki gets a two count with a rollup. Funaki tries for a rollup, but Crash counters and pins Funaki for the win. (*. That sucked for a Cruiserweight style match. It was way too slow and lacked high quality spots to pop the crowd.)
Final Thoughts:
A subpar episode of Velocity this time around as the action wasn’t very good, at all. The only positive is the potential for an Albert/DeMott team.
Thanks for reading.
