1.) Sting, Dustin Rhodes & WCW United States Champion Ricky Steamboat defeated Arn Anderson, Terry Funk & Bunkhouse Buck by disqualification
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Eric Bischoff interviewed Dusty Rhodes on the set of his TV show Burke’s Law. Gene Barry, the star of the show, is with Dusty, too. Barry considers Rhodes a friend and thinks that Rhodes is a natural actor. Dusty had Brian Pillman and Marcus Alexander Bagwell on the set for a wrestling oriented scene. Rhodes describes the plot of the episode, but doesn’t reveal the ending of it, obviously. Barry tells Dusty to have his managers and agents keep him in the acting scene if Dusty wants to be part of the business. Barry believes that Rhodes could be a busy actor in a short time if he sticks with it. Dusty considers this experience a dream for him.
2.) Mean Gene conducted an interview with Ric Flair outside a hotel as Flair arrived in a limo. Flair is wearing the WCW World Championship, which doesn’t belong to him. Gene notes that Flair is suspended and has upset the world of professional wrestling. Flair shows off the championship and proclaims himself as the real champion. Gene reminds Flair what he did to Hogan at the Clash where a masked man attacked Hogan’s knee. Flair says that Las Vegas is his kind of action and says he’s retired. Flair tells Gene that he’s the champion and he’s taking a leave of absence. Flair tells Gene that they use to be pals. Flair doesn’t understand why Gene is associated with Hogan now. Flair lets out a WOO. Flair mocks Hogan for walking around Florida with a limp because of his knee. Flair does a strut and tells Hogan that he made a mistake by jumping in with both feet. Flair walks into the hotel after strutting and wooing once again.
3.) Sting and Anderson kickoff the six man tag main event. Anderson sends Sting into his corner and Sting is triple teamed. Sting rolls away and all six men are in the ring now brawling. Steamboat chops Funk coming off the ropes as Anderson and Buck bailed to the floor. Funk is pissed on the floor. Sting sends Anderson into the corner and is met with punches and elbows by Rhodes and Steamboat. Anderson rolls to the floor. Sting scoop slams Funk followed by Steamboat and Rhodes delivering scoop slams to Funk. Sting slams Funk again. Buck tries to get involved and is punched for his troubles. Rhodes clotheslines Funk over the top to the floor. Steamboat beats on Buck in the corner while Rhodes punches Funk on the middle rope. Funk gets in the face of a fan in the front row. Rhodes backs Buck in the corner and delivers right hands to the midsection. Rhodes is dropped over the top rope by Anderson to help Buck finally get control of the contest. Buck stomps on Rhodes on the mat. Funk works over Rhodes with a strike to the midsection and connects with a neckbreaker. Anderson returns to the match and beats on Rhodes left shoulder with several strikes.
Buck delivers an axe handle from the middle rope and Funk slams Rhodes arm over the guard railing. Buck keeps a hammerlock on Rhodes, but Rhodes eye rakes Buck. Rhodes is backed into the wrong corner and beaten down by Funk and Anderson. Anderson drives Rhodes down to the mat with an arm breaker. Buck keeps an arm lock on Rhodes, but doesn’t get a submission. Rhodes elbows Anderson a few times and decks Funk on the apron. Steamboat chops all three men followed by a slam to Anderson and clotheslines Funk to the apron. Steamboat slams Buck and chops Anderson. Sting gets back in the match and slams Anderson. Steamboat has a cover on Anderson, but Buck grabs Steamboat and tosses Steamboat over the top to the floor to cause a disqualification. After the match, the brawling continues between all six men. Steamboat has gotten a chair to stop Funk from choking Rhodes in the corner. (*1/2. Here’s the thing, this match as a major disappointment. It felt like they had zero plan as to what they were going to do, so as a collective group they just did random moves. There was seemingly no structure to the match. It didn’t feel like that was what they were trying to accomplish either. Considering the talent involved, for this match to feel that way is really bizarre to me.)
Final Thoughts:
A disappointing episode largely because that six man tag match was just not very well thought out at all.
