Homicide hits BG over the back with a slapjack while the referee is distracted. Hernandez covers BG for the win. (*1/2. Nothing really going on here, but it was decent for what they were trying to do. I’m assuming the Steiner Brothers are going to be getting a title match and probably win the titles to add to their lists of accomplishments.)
3.) Backstage, TNA World Champion Sting is interviewed about his title defense against Kurt Angle. Sting says this has nothing to do about the championship. Sting reminds us that Angle put his hands on Sting’s son. Sting asks what Kurt would have done if somebody put their hands on Kurt’s kids. Tenay asks about the X-Division and Ray tells Tenay he wants to throw up. Ray wonders why anyone cares about the X-Division and threatens violence on Tenay. Ray doesn’t know what the division brings to the table and calls them little boys in a man’s world. Ray thinks every X-Division wrestler deserves to be out of a job. Ray reminds Tenay what Shelley and Sabin did at Bound For Glory to cost them their match with the Steiner Brothers.
8.) Havok tries to hit Williams with a kendo stick, but misses. Williams and Boy hit a double hip tosses on Havok. Dutt hits a senton splash and a standing moonsault. Angle has the cover and a second referee counts the fall to allow Angle to regain the championship. After the match, Nash wants to shake hands, but Angle flips off Nash and runs off. Jim Cornette comes out and is freaking out on the referees. (**1/2. Well, that’s another short-lived title reign for Sting. Kurt is probably the best man to have the championship and continues to be the most entertaining act. At this point there needs to be a match between Angle and Nash. I wouldn’t hate it if that match was at the next pay per view.)
11.) Jim Cornette is livid with the referees and has a microphone. Cornette doesn’t know what is going on here since both referees have two different stories. Cornette wants them to figure out what happened. Cornette leaves the third referee, Shane, in the ring to referee the next match. Mike Tenay is pissed and asks Cornette what there is to review. Joe whacks Roode with the chair allowing the Fatu Driver. Fatu covers Roode and wins the match. (*. At least it wasn’t a clean victory for Fatu and they advanced the Roode/Joe issue.)
18.) Samoa Joe chases after Christian Cage.
19.) Backstage, Kevin Nash tries to get his hands on Kurt Angle, but Kurt drives off and leaves Karen in the parking lot.
20.) Jim Cornette and Mike Tenay come down to the ring. Cornette apologizes to Tenay for yelling at him earlier. Tenay wants to get to the bottom of this between Angle and Sting. Cornette says that Sting attacked Nash. Nash never struck Sting and never entered the ring. Cornette doesn’t like this and says that for now Kurt Angle is the TNA World Champion. Cornette has another ruling and is forcing Angle to defend the title at Genesis. Cornette books Kurt Angle to defend the title in a tag match at Genesis with Nash as his partner. Their opponents are going to be Sting and… well before Cornette can announce that partner Sting’s music hits and Sting appears in the ring after the lights went out. Cornette says whomever gets the pin will be the champion. Sting promises that Angle will not be the champion after Genesis.
Final Thoughts:
I don’t care for tag team matches where the World Championship is on the line. The money feud for Genesis should just be a singles match between Angle and Nash. A tag match just seems unnecessary. I’ll consider this week an average episode.
Thanks for reading.
