Date: 5/9/2009
From: Rahway, NJ
Backstage, Trent Acid is interviewed, but Johnny D. takes over the promo. Johnny isn’t impressed by Joe Hardway, who is wrestling Acid. Johnny puts over Acid and Annie Social. Acid chimes in and can’t believe he’s wrestling someone like Joe Hardway. Acid says he’s coming for the JAPW Heavyweight Championship. Acid tells Johnny that he’s going to bring the gold home to the D-Factor. Johnny brings up Dan Maff and how they woke him up last month.

This felt like a match where they are just reintroducing Acid into the promotion and he’ll be in the main event scene in no time. A decent match, but nothing special.)

Sexton had a couple of decent moments of shine, but this was kind of an extended squash for Demanto. It felt similar to the opening match, but I enjoyed this a little more.)

Mack hits a top rope big splash to pin Lee. (**1/4. For some reason I love the team of Murdoch and Lee. The match is solid enough and the run-in by Homicide wasn’t something I was expecting. If you’re thinking there’s a match between Homicide and Murdoch at some point, you’d be in wrong. The joys of independent wrestling not being able to deliver something down the road.)
Fourth Contest: Prince Mustafa Ali vs. Bandido Jr.: Ali takes Bandido down with a rollup for a near fall and taunts Bandido.Ali gets another rollup for a two count and continues to taunt Bandido. Bandido hits a top rope backstabber! Bandido goes for a cover, but Ali kicks out at two! Ali elbows Bandido, but Bandido hits a flatliner and locks in an octopus submission to get a quick submission win. (***1/2. A very good undercard match. The top rope backstabber spot was nuts and seemingly undersold by commentary, which was a bummer. Bandido is gaining a ton of steam in JAPW it seems like. I enjoyed this quite a bit.)
Backstage, Prince Mustafa Ali is interviewed by Sam Roberts about the loss. Ali doesn’t cut the promo in English and storms off.
Outside, some fans are interviewed and they bash the ROH show from a half hour ago. A fan promotes the show and puts over JAPW. The fan notes he’s had a few vodka shots at the ROH and then drove to JAPW and had more shots at this show. That explains everything.
Fifth Contest: The Osirian Portal (Amasis & Ophidian) vs. Incoherence (Frightmare & Hallowicked): Amasis and Hallowicked start off the tag match. Frightmare hits a standing hurricanrana and a somersault knee strike for a two count as Amasis made the save. Amasis chops both men and knee strikes Hallowicked, who DDTs his own partner. Ophidian and Amasis go to opposite corners and hit a splash /leg drop combo on Frightmare to win the match. (**. CHIKARA guys did a fine job, but the crowd didn’t seem to care about this at all. It’s probably the ideal match to have coming out of intermission. CHIKARA showcase matches usually bug me because I’d rather just watch JAPW guys.)

Kingston tries for a backfist, but Archadia screams and ducks. Kingston settles to hit a suplex. I wish they’d just treat it as a tornado match from the start, because that’s usually how these matches end up anyway and that was the case here. I’m not surprised Azireal took the fall, but it’s not a cop out since Lethal and Azireal have a long history in JAPW.)
The Hillbilly Wrecking Crew storm the ring and attack the men involved in the main event. Teddy Hart ends up clearing the ring on his own. Final Thoughts:
I’m going to consider this a good show overall. Ali/Bandido had a standout match and the second half of the show delivered quality action throughout. The show didn’t feel like a chore to get through. JAPW is a quality indie promotion that never gets the proper attention from fans.
Thanks for reading.
