Opening Contest: The Naturals (Douglas & Stevens) vs. The Diamonds In The Rough (Skipper & Young): Young and Douglas kickoff the tag match. Young shoves Douglas to the mat to start the match and taunts the fans. Douglas gains control with a wrist lock, but Young yanks Douglas to the mat and they have a standoff. Young puts a wrist lock on Douglas, but gets a wedgie and arm dragged by Douglas. Stevens tags into the match, but Young crawls back to his corner and tags in Skipper. Skipper controls Stevens with a wrist lock, but Stevens counters quickly. Skipper counters with a headlock, but Stevens forearms free and arm drags Skipper a couple of times. Stevens punches Skipper against the ropes several times. Stevens snapmares Skipper and delivers a kick to the back. Douglas returns to the match, but Skipper knee lifts Douglas before tagging in Young. Douglas arm drags Young and keeps control on the mat. Douglas jabs Young in the corner and drops Young over Stevens knee for a two count. Stevens strikes Young in the corner several times and taunts the referee. Young low blows Stevens in the corner. Stevens is stomped by Skipper and Young. Skipper elbow drops Stevens on the knee several times. Skipper forearms Douglas on the apron. Young axe handles Stevens from the middle rope as Skipper held Stevens. Skipper returns to the match and delivers a kick allowing Young to hit a neckbreaker for a two count.
Stevens punches Skipper several times and avoids a backslide. Skipper settles for a kick to the back. Skipper kicks Stevens across the chest and nails Stevens with another kick over the back of the head. Young slams Stevens and heads to the top rope missing a moonsault. Skipper and Douglas get the hot tags with Douglas cleaning house. Douglas knee lifts Skipper and crotches Young on the top rope. Douglas hits a top rope hurricanrana on Young, but Skipper breaks the cover. Douglas delivers a TKO and Douglas hits a neckbreaker. Young stops Stevens with a spinebuster. Douglas plants Young with a modified pedigree. Skipper comes off the ropes and is met with the Natural Disaster, which gets the three count. (**1/4. There was some decent action here, but it’s a mostly average bout. It never got past first gear it felt.)
Second Contest: Jerry Lynn vs. Petey Williams vs. Sonjay Dutt: Dutt and Lynn chop Williams. Lynn elbows Dutt to the mat and is met with a forearm by Williams. Williams is double teamed some more and bails to the floor. Lynn shoulder blocks Dutt and monkey flips Dutt, but Dutt lands on his feet to head scissors Lynn. Lynn stops Dutt with a tilt a whirl backbreaker for a two count. Williams strikes Lynn in the corner. Williams is leg dropped by Lynn over the middle rope. Lynn backdrops Dutt over the top onto Williams on the floor. Lynn rams Williams into the railing face first. Lynn rams Williams onto the apron. Lynn rams Williams into chairs at ringside. Williams sends Dutt into the railing. Williams rams Lynn onto the apron and they roll into the ring. Lynn tries for a sunset powerbomb off the apron, but Williams leg drops Lynn on the apron. Dutt rolls Williams into the ring and delivers a few strikes. Dutt slams Williams followed by an elbow drop for a two count. Lynn kicks Dutt from behind followed by a leg drop. Williams hits a side Russian leg sweep and a flatliner combo for a two count. Lynn forearms Williams several times, but is rammed into the corner. Williams stomps Lynn in the corner until Dutt gets involved. Dutt hits a running knee strike and drops Lynn with a neckbreaker. Dutt plants Williams with a spinebuster and connects with a moonsault onto both men for a near fall.
Williams sends Dutt into the corner chest first. Williams puts Dutt in a tree of woe and stands on Dutt’s groin. Dutt stops Williams with a cutter out of the tree of woe for a near fall. Lynn forearms Dutt and runs into a boot in the corner. Lynn plants Dutt with a powerbomb for a two count as Williams made the save. Lynn hits a reverse DDT on Williams as Dutt nails Lynn with a running neckbreaker and all three men are down. Dutt misses a dropkick and Lynn delivers a TKO for a two count as Williams makes the save. Lynn spikes Williams with the Kryptonite Crunch, but Williams kicks out. Williams spikes Lynn with the Canadian Destroyer, but Dutt hits a standing shooting star press and pins Williams for the win. (***. A good match as expected. There could have been a more explosive finish, but it was a quality match regardless.)
Third Contest: Maven vs. Kip James: Maven stalls quite a bit at the start of the match. Kip puts a wrist lock on Maven and delivers an elbow strike to Maven’s arm several times. Kip continues to wrench on the arm. Maven sends Kip into the ropes and is met with a shoulder block. Kip hip tosses Maven followed by a scoop slam and Maven bails to the floor. Kip decks Maven on the aisle and rams Maven into the railing chest first a few times. Maven stops Kip with a low blow. Maven rams Kip into the apron several times back first. Maven rams Kip face first into the ring steps, as well. Maven pummels Kip on the mat with right hands. Kip almost wins with a rollup, but Maven recovers to clothesline Kip for a two count. Maven controls Kip on the mat with a sleeper hold. Kip elbows free and drives Maven to the mat gut first. Kip strikes Maven several times and elbows Maven followed by a clothesline. Kip hits a Jackhammer for a two count. Maven turns Kip inside out with a clothesline for a two count as the referee saw Maven trying to cheat. Kip nails Maven with the Fame-Asser to win the match. (*. Certainly wasn’t expecting a work rate match here and it ended up being exactly what I expected. A formula match with plenty of stalling, but at least there was a clean finish.)
Several of the lumberjacks for the next match are NASCAR drivers including Kyle Petty and Darrell Waltrip.
Fourth Contest: Team 3D, Hermie Sadler & Jeff Hammond vs. America’s Most Wanted, Eric Young & Jeff Jarrett in a lumberjack match: Jarrett and Sadler kickoff the match with Sadler shoving Jarrett to the mat. Jarrett decks Sadler from behind and delivers a snap suplex. Jarrett stomps Sadler on the mat several times. Jarrett rams Sadler into the corner a few times and taunts the fans. Sadler fights back with a hip toss and powerbombs Jarrett for a two count. Sadler punches Jarrett ten times in the corner and tags in D-Von. D-Von controls Jarrett with a wrist lock and runs into an elbow in the corner. D-Von strikes Storm several times and shoulder blocks Storm. D-Von ducks an elbow, but Storm slides through and D-Von shoulder blocks Storm. D-Von slams Storm and hits a leg drop off the ropes for a two count. D-Von puts Storm in a tree of woe. Bubba enters and sends Harris into Storm in the corner. They end up in a 69 position and the fans laugh at AMW. Storm tags in Harris and D-Von arm drags Harris to keep control of the match. Bubba tags in and Harris is met with a double shoulder block. Harris kicks Bubba, but runs into a clothesline. Bubba wants Eric Young, but Young isn’t excited about it. Jarrett tries to leave, but is stopped by the lumberjacks.
Bubba slingshots Young into the ring and tris to escape, but is sent back into the ring. Young is backed into a corner by Hammond and is rammed into the turnbuckle several times. Young sends Hammond into the corner, but misses a splash. Waltrip yanks on Young’s leg over the top rope. Hammond kicks Young and shakes the ropes. Hammond spears Young for a near fall as Jarrett makes the save. Hammond slams Jarrett. Bubba slams Harris and D-Von slams Storm. Sadler lays out Young. The faces hit four elbow drops on the heels. Bubba jabs Jarrett followed by an elbow strike. Ray slams Jarrett and D-Von heads to the top rope hitting a flying headbutt onto Jarrett’s groin. Storm superkicks Bubba to help out Jarrett. Harris tags into the match and Storm elbows Bubba to the mat. Harris keeps Bubba on the mat with a sleeper. Bubba strikes free from Harris and is met with a leaping clothesline. Harris covers for a two count. Young enters and works over Bubba with strikes. Young is met with a chop by Bubba several times. Jarrett splashes Bubba over the middle rope and taunts the crowd by doing a strut. Jarrett stomps Bubba before tagging in Harris. Harris chokes Bubba with his wrist tape. Harris knocks Bubba to the mat and Storm tags into the match trading strikes with Bubba. Storm kicks Bubba and continues with strikes. Bubba hits the Bubba Bomb. Waltrip pulls down Harris tights on the apron.
D-Von punches Young followed by a clothesline and a reverse DDT to Storm. Harris is met with a flapjack. D-Von plants Young with a lifting reverse DDT for a two count. Sadler stomps Jarrett in the corner. Everyone is in the ring brawling at this point. Jarrett has a guitar as Young holds Sadler. Hammond tries to help out and Jarrett breaks the guitar over Hammond’s head. Team 3D hit a double team neckbreaker. Sadler low blows Young and is met with a 3D. Sadler covers Young to win the match. (**. It’s honestly a silly match as the NASCAR guys look completely out of place, but the crowd treated this as the biggest match they’ve ever seen. It was entertaining to watch for what it was.) After the match, the heels attack Team 3D. Harris grabs a table from under the ring. Young is left alone in the ring and ends up being put through a table by Bubba with a powerbomb off the middle rope.
Fifth Contest: Amber O’Neal & Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Bentley & Traci: Traci and Jeff Hardy start the match with Traci taunting Hardy. O’Neal tags in and Traci is unaware of it. She realizes it’s O’Neal and O’Neal delivers a chop to Traci’s chest. O’Neal rips off Traci’s jacket and continues to deliver chops. Traci comes off the ropes and is met with a chop to the chest. O’Neal rides Traci’s back as if Traci is a horse. Traci bails to the floor to regroup with Bentley and they head backstage. O’Neal slaps Bentley across the face and Hardy enters the match to deliver a forearm strike. Hardy nails Bentley with a leaping clothesline and leg drops Bentley on the lower midsection. Hardy is distracted by Traci allowing Bentley to deliver a flatliner. Bentley dropkicks Hardy over the back and keeps control with a sleeper on the mat. Hardy elbows free, but Bentley yanks Hardy to the mat by his hair. Bentley stomps Hardy in the corner before choking Hardy for a moment. Traci chokes Hardy on the apron. Bentley plants Hardy with a neckbreaker for a two count. Bentley knee strikes Hardy over the back and keeps a chin lock on Hardy. Hardy elbows Bentley into the corner and hits the Whisper In The Wind.
O’Neal and Traci get tagged in with O’Neal knocking Traci to the mat with a shoulder block for a two count. O’Neal hits a side Russian leg sweep for a two count. Bentley grabs O’Neal by the hair. Traci accidentally slaps Bentley. Hardy and O’Neal hit a Twist of Fate and DDT at the same time leading to a double pin and win. (*. There wasn’t a lot of effort here. A mostly boring match and Hardy didn’t even do the Swanton.)
Main Event: Abyss vs. Rhino in an anything goes match: They trade strikes to start the match. Rhino clotheslines Abyss to send Abyss to the floor. Rhino strikes Abyss around ringside and rams Abyss into the railing chest first. Rhino grabs a kendo stick and a chair. Rhino rams Abyss into the ring steps face first. Rhino tosses a bucket and a whiffle ball bat. Rhino tosses a trash can into the ring and a lid. Abyss punches Rhino several times on the floor. Rhino eye rakes Abyss followed by chops. They brawl up the aisle where Rhino sends Abyss into the railing. Rhino rolls Abyss into the ring and grabs a ladder from under the ring. Rhino slingshots the ladder into Abyss face. Rhino strikes Abyss against the ropes, but runs into a boot in the corner. Rhino hits Abyss with a kendo stick to the midsection. Abyss avoids a trash can shot with a boot to the midsection and whacks Rhino over the head with a trash can. Abyss covers Rhino for a two count. Abyss jabs Rhino on the midsection with a chair shot several times. Abyss lays the chair over Rhino’s body. Abyss taunts the crowd and runs the ropes, but is met with a low blow with the chair. Rhino hits Abyss over the head with a trash can lid. Rhino covers, but Abyss kicks out at two. Rhino uses the whiffle ball bat to hit a bucket on the groin of Abyss. Abyss is sent chest first into the corner and Rhino waits in the corner. Rhino waits in the corner, but Abyss hits Rhino with a trash can lid for a two count. Abyss kicks Rhino and suplexs Rhino onto the ladder for a two count. Abyss forearms Rhino before setting up the ladder in the corner again.
Rhino chops Abyss, but is met with a knee lift. Abyss sends Rhino into the ladder back first in the corner. Abyss sends the ladder to the floor. Abyss continues to work over Rhino with strikes. Abyss tries for a chokeslam, but Rhino elbows free and runs into a boot. Abyss grabs a couple of steel chairs and tosses them into the ring. Abyss also slides a table into the ring. Abyss sets the table up in the corner, but Rhino gets up and strikes Abyss. Abyss stops Rhino with a knee lift. Rhino hits a belly to belly suplex onto the chairs. Rhino waits in the corner and Abyss chokeslams Rhino onto the trash can for a near fall. Rhino elbows Abyss in the corner and GORES Abyss through the table in the corner for the win. (*1/2. If you’ve seen one match between these two then you’ve likely seen them all. They have a formula for matches on the indies and they tend to be rather dull and lack a lot of hardcore action.)
Final Thoughts:
For essentially a house show it’s not a terrible event. There’s some decent action with the triple threat match providing the most entertainment. It’s not a show to go out of your way to watch, but it’s a harmless and fun show with an energetic crowd.
