Opening Contest: Al Snow vs. Loca Vida: They start off doing a dance contest for a few moments. Loca is obviously far more into the idea while Snow did hip thrusting. Snow gets some music to play does a split in the middle of the ring and does some basic dancing. Snow attacks Vida from behind and gains control with strikes in the corner. Snow scoop slams Vida and taunts Vida with some more dancing. Snow stomps Vida on the mat while doing more dance taunts. Snow delivers an elbow drop and Vida is scared by Head in the corner. Vida slides to the floor and slap hands with the fans. Snow grabs Head, but the referee stops Snow from using the weapon. Snow gains wrist control and locks in a test of strength. Vida breaks free and does the wiggle with Snow and the referee. Snow drop toe holds Vida to the mat and gains control with a headlock. Snow shoulder blocks Vida and Vida goes to the corner to regroup. Snow takes Vida over with a headlock and gets a two count. Snow shoulder blocks Vida, but they counter each other a few times. Snow nails Vida with a clothesline. Snow stomps on Vida’s knee a few times leading to a near fall. Snow drives Vida down with a backbreaker. Snow clubs Vida over the back and forearms in the corner. Snow sends Vida hard into the corner back first and delivers a shoulder breaker for a two count.
Vida head scissors Snow and connects with a dropkick to send Snow into the corner. Vida delivers a few knee strikes, but Snow comes back with a clothesline. Snow chops Vida in the corner. Vida nearly splashes the referee in the corner. Snow grabs Head, but Vida ducks and hits a springboard arm drag out of the corner. Snow is hunched over the middle rope and Vida goes for the 315, but Snow counters with a wheelbarrow suplex for a two count. Vida avoids Snow in the corner and is dumped to the apron. Vida springboards off the ropes to arm drag Snow. Snow plants Vida with a sit out spinebuster for a near fall. Vida ducks a shot by Head and dropkicks Snow. Vida drop toe holds Snow over the ropes and goes for another 315, but Snow counters. Vida counters the suplex with a bulldog and almost wins the match. Vida dropkicks Snow over the middle rope. Vida hits the 315 on the third attempt. Vida hits a standing hurricanrana and pins Snow for the win. After the match, Snow attacks Vida on the floor. Snow nails Vida with Head, and the fans love it. (**. Once they got past the dancing stuff, it turned into a decent opening match. Snow showed off some moves that made me remember his early days on the indies. Snow didn’t wrestle like you’d expect in WWE.)
Second Contest: Antonio Thomas vs. Zaquary Springate III: Springate backs Thomas into a corner, but cleanly backs off. Springate and Thomas trade wrist locks until Springate stomps on Thomas’s hand. Thomas complains and sneaks into his trunks for something, but didn’t get anything. Thomas gains control with a few strikes and puts a headlock on Springate. Thomas shoulder blocks Springate, but Springate plants Thomas with a chokeslam. Springate dumps Thomas to the apron and clotheslines Thomas to the floor. Springate rolls Thomas into the ring and prevents Thomas from escaping the ring. Springate locks in a surfboard in the ropes, but has to let go of the hold as it’s not a legal move. Thomas drops Springate over the top rope and heads to the top rope hitting a flying clothesline. Thomas tries for a cover, but Springate kicks out at two. Thomas pummels Springate with right hands and gouges Springate’s eyes. Thomas nails Springate with a heel kick for a two count. Springate nails Thomas with a jawbreaker and runs into a boot in the corner. Thomas drives Springate down with a back suplex for a near fall. Thomas puts a camel clutch on Springate, but doesn’t get a submission.
Thomas splashes down on Springate’s back and delivers a neckbreaker for a two count. Thomas continues with a knee drop and heads to the top rope. Springate stops Thomas with a press slam to the mat. Springate hits a double under hook suplex. Springate pummels Thomas with right hands in the corner before going to the top rope and puts a head scissors submission in the ropes on Thomas. Springate punches Thomas away and hits a top rope crossbody for a near fall. Springate backdrops Thomas a couple of times. Thomas hits a fisherman suplex for the win. (*1/2. That was a bit a of a abrupt finish since Thomas was getting dominated for most of the match, but I like Thomas and think he’d do well in a bigger role for 2CW as a heel. It’s not a bad match, but it’s nothing memorable.)
Third Contest: Alumni Club (Alex Cypher & Tony Torres) vs. Killer Steves in a no disqualification match: Steves attack the Alumni Club from behind entering the ring from the crowd. Kruz pulls Cypher into the ring post groin first. McKenzie is working over Torres in the ring. Torres goes to the floor and is decked by Kruz. McKenzie dives off the ropes onto everyone with a crossbody. McKenzie stomps Cypher from the apron. McKenzie sends Cypher into the guard railing a few times. Torres stumbles to the backstage area, but Kruz follows. McKenzie grabs a toaster fro under the ring and hits Cypher for a two count. Kruz and Torres are brawling in the crowd. Kruz suplexs Torres onto a pile of chairs. Kruz leaps off the bleachers, but misses a senton splash. McKenzie kicks Cypher into the railing and gets back in the ring to hit a side Russian leg sweep. McKenzie leaps off the top to hit an elbow drop for a two count on Cypher. Torres pummels Kruz on the pile of chairs in the crowd. McKenzie tries to hit Cypher with a football, but Cypher blocks it. Torres fireman carry slams Kruz onto the floor by ringside.
All four men are back in the ring where the Alumni Club tackle McKenzie into Kruz sitting on a chair. Kruz is tossed to the floor while McKenzie is double teamed. McKenzie is nailed by a double team shoulder block, but they pull McKenzie up on the cover attempt. Kruz gets to the apron and is decked back to the floor. McKenzie is sent hard into the corner. Torres sends McKenzie chest first into the corner for another two count. Alumni Club put a double Boston Crab on McKenzie, but Kruz maekes the save only to be sent to the floor quickly again. Alumni Club hit a double team slam for a two count. Torres accidentally spears Cypher. Kruz nails Torres with a few clotheslines and elbows Torres to the mat. Cypher misses a chair shot and Mckenzie kicks the chair into Cypher’s face. McKenzie accidentally kicks Kruz. Alumni Club hit a double slam onto the chairs to pin McKenzie for the win. (**1/2. This may be the best Alumni Club match I’ve seen thus far. The stipulation certainly helped both teams to be creative and do some fun stuff throughout the match. I enjoyed the action a lot more than I was expecting to.) After the match, Kruz fights off the Alumni Club. All four men brawl on the floor to prove this is far from being over.
Fourth Contest: Mean Marcos vs. Jay Freddie: Marcos taunts Freddie by faking a test of strength, but is shoved by Freddie. Freddie arm drags Marcos and keeps control on the mat. Freddie snapmares Marcos and they counter each other. Freddie shoulder blocks Marcos and delivers a dropkick. Freddie hits a snap suplex on Marcos for a two count. Freddie chops Marcos against the ropes and hits a backdrop. Freddie slams Marcos, but Marcos comes back with a couple of boots and a sit out slam for a near fall. Freddie chops Marcos in the corner, but Marcos drives Freddie down with a bulldog. Freddie knee lifts Marcos and hits a seated dropkick for a two count. Marcos hits a tilt a whirl slam for a two count. Marcos keeps an abdominal stretch on Freddie on the mat. Freddie plants Marcos with a tornado DDT. Marcos goes to the floor and Freddie hits a suicide dive on the aisle! Freddie heads to the top rope hitting a crossbody for a near fall. Freddie forearms Marcos, but misses a clothesline. Marcos dropkicks Freddie on the knee and hits a head scissor. Marcos gets a two count with a rollup. Freddie avoids the Acid Drop, but Marcos takes Freddie down with a rollup for a two count. Marcos hits a Slice Bread for a near fall. Marcos chops Freddie in the corner and sits Freddie on the top turnbuckle. Freddie headbutts Marcos off the middle rope. Freddie hits a diving headbutt and pins Marcos for the win. (**. A quick match for the most part, but a solid one. Freddie is clearly over with the Watertown crowd, his hometown.) After the match, Colin Delaney comes out and cuts a promo saying that Freddie better enjoy the win because it’s the only one he’s going to have this weekend. Delaney challenges Freddie to a match tomorrow night to any kind of match Freddie wants. Freddie accepts.
Fifth Contest: Nigel McGuiness vs. Isys Ephex: McGuiness controls Ephex with a wrist lock on the mat for a few moments. McGuiness takes Ephex down to the mat to maintain wrist control. Ephex manages to counter into a hammerlock, but McGuiness backs Ephex into a corner and cleanly breaks free. McGuiness keeps Ephex on the mat with a modified million dollar dream, but Ephex rolls through and knee drops McGuiness a few times. McGuiness elbows Ephex in the corner. McGuiness kicks Ephex on the mat, but Ephex delivers an uppercut and a running knee strike off the ropes for a two count. Ephex misses a spear in the corner hitting the post. McGuiness leg sweeps Ephex down to the mat. McGuiness yanks Ephex down to the mat a couple of times. McGuiness tosses Ephex overhead by the arm for a two count. McGuiness takes Ephex down to the mat to keep arm control, but Ephex refuses to give in. McGuiness continues to control Ephex with submission attempts, but Ephex isn’t giving up as Ephex is laid over McGuiness’s knee while in a cobra clutch. Ephex nails McGuiness with a spinning heel kick. Ephex clotheslines McGuiness in the corner and hits a slingshot strike over the apron. Ephex runs on the floor to nail McGuiness with a kick. Back in the ring, McGuiness kicks Ephex on the back and hits a quick clothesline for a two count. McGuiness sits Ephex on the top turnbuckle, but Ephex breaks free. Ephex boots a charging McGuiness to hit a Codebreaker for a two count. McGuiness gets out of a suplex, but misses a clothesline. Ephex locks in a modified abdominal stretch. They trade a few pin attempts, but McGuiness switches to a top wrist lock. Ephex reaches the ropes to break the hold. Ephex takes McGuiness down and uses the ropes for leverage for a near fall. McGuiness crotches Ephex on the top rope and hits an elevated cutter for the win. (**. McGuiness is dealing with a major bicep injury and needed surgery, but still worked through the injury. So, with that context I think they did a good job of delivering something for the crowd despite the injury. McGuiness comes across as a star. His presence compared to anyone else on the show was significantly noticeable.)
Sixth Contest: Portia Perez vs. Nikki Roxx: Roxx tosses Perez to the mat out of a lockup for the early advantage. Roxx shoulder blocks Perez, but is sent into the corner. Roxx elbows Perez followed by a few clotheslines. Roxx splashes Perez in the corner and hits a running big boot for a two count. Roxx goes to the floor to confront Joey Eastman, and avoids a sneak attack by Perez. Perez stomps Roxx several times on the mat. Perez dropkicks a seated Roxx and covers Roxx for a two count. Perez controls Roxx with a headlock on the mat. Roxx elbows Perez to break free and misses a big boot. Perez yanks Roxx off the ropes and stomps on her face for a two count. Perez nails Roxx with another strike and rams Roxx into the corner. Perez shoulder rams Roxx in the corner. Perez knee strikes Roxx in the corner and continues with stomps in the corner. Perez chokes Roxx over the middle rope. Eastman chokes Roxx over the middle rope and Perez gets a two count. Perez sends Roxx into the corner and misses a splash. Roxx forearms Perez in the corner and drops Perez to the mat. Roxx tosses Perez overhead with a suplex. Perez delivers a jawbreaker, but Roxx hits a sit out powerbomb for a two count. Perez kicks Roxx and delivers a knee strike for a two count. Roxx rolls Perez up for a two count. Roxx knocks Eastman off the apron, but Perez hits a superkick and uses the ropes for leverage to win the match. (*1/2. This felt like filler for the most part. There wasn’t much to it.)
Seventh Contest: 2CW Heavyweight Champion Jimmy Olsen & John Walters vs. Jason Axe & Slyck Wagner Brown: All four men are in the ring brawling with Brown and Olsen going to the floor to brawl. Axe and Walters go to the floor, as well. Brown drops Olsen over the guard railing while Axe sends Walters into the ring post. Axe sends Walters into the railing. Brown sends Olsen back first into the railing. Olsen and Walters are sent into each other on the floor. Brown continues to chop Olsen around ringside and chops Olsen into the crowd. Walters hits a snap suplex on Axe onto the floor. Brown holds Olsen to allow fans to chop the champ. Walters chops Axe against the railing. Olsen sends Brown into the merch area. Olsen decks Brown over the back with a few strikes. Axe rams Walters onto a chair in the crowd. Walters sends Axe upside down into the railing. Olsen and Brown continue to fight in the crowd. Walters catapults Axe into a barrier. Olsen chokes Brown with a rope in the crowd. Brown fires back with a chop to stop Olsen’s momentum. Brown forearms Olsen against the railing. Axe continues to work over Walters with strikes. Walters eye rakes Axe and continues to deliver a flurry of strikes. Walters eye rakes Axe on the floor before rolling Axe into the ring.
Olsen works over Axe choking Axe on the mat. Walters stomps Axe to maintain control as there’s finally some order to the match. Olsen nails Axe with a strike and an elbow drop for a two count. Olsen splashes down onto Axe’s back a few times and spits at Brown. Walters enters to stomp Axe on the mat to maintain the advantage. Axe fires back with a few strikes, but Walters drop toe holds Axe to the mat for a near fall. Walters drops Axe with a chop to the mat. Olsen stomps Axe over the middle rope and Walters drops Axe over the middle rope. Olsen stomps Axe on the mat and steps on Axe’s neck. Olsen knee lifts Axe and comes off the ropes to deliver a big boot. Olsen tries for a cover, but Axe kicks out at two. Walters leaps off the middle rope to deliver a strike to Axe’s ribs. Walters punches Brown off the apron. Walters brings Axe to the corner and Olsen strikes Axe to the mat leading to a near fall. Walters keeps a sleeper on Axe for a few moments. Axe elbows free and is met with a forearm strike by Walters for a two count. Olsen returns to the match and kicks Axe on the ribs.
Axe stops Olsen with a gut buster and both men are down. Axe crawls to his corner and tags in Brown. Brown clotheslines Olsen several times. Brown backdrops Olsen and does the same to Walters. Walters rolls to the floor to regroup. Olsen elbows Brown in the corner and runs into a leg lariat. Brown covers for a two count. Brown bulldogs Olsen out of the corner. Brown hits a top rope moonsault, but Walters breaks the cover at two. Axe sneaks a tag and nails Walters with a missile dropkick. Brown and Walters fall to the floor on a clothesline. Axe puts the Crossface on Olsen and gets a submission. However, someone wearing a hoodie pulled the referee out. It’s JD Love, who had been in a “car accident” and not suppose to be there. Olsen low blows Axe and Love grabs the championship. Love decks Axe with the championship. Olsen covers, but Axe kicks out at two. Springate chases after Love. Brown hits a double missile dropkick. Brown hits the Appreciation Bomb on Walters and Axe hits a fisherman buster to earn a double pin to win the match. (***1/2. As expected, that was a good tag match. It held my interest from the start with the brawling and overall vibe for the match. All four guys are underrated and shined very well in this match.)
Main Event: Jim Duggan vs. Colin Delaney: Duggan scares Delaney away with the 2×4 to start the match. Delaney punches Duggan against the ropes. Delaney runs into a few clotheslines and bails to the floor to regroup. Delaney is jabbed several times by Duggan until bailing to the floor again. Delaney stalls on the aisle and heads backstage, but runs back into the ring. Duggan keeps control with several strikes. Delaney decks Duggan over the back and chokes Duggan over the middle rope. Delaney controls Duggan with a sleeper on the mat. Duggan elbows Delaney several times and continues with strikes. Delaney stops Duggan with a knee strike and a leg drop for a two count. Delaney uses the ropes for leverage on a sleeper. Delaney stops using the ropes for leverage and tries to ram Duggan into the corner, but Duggan elbows free and rams Delaney into the corner. Duggan pummels Delaney with right hands in the corner. Duggan is stopped by an eye rake and Delaney delivers several strikes. Duggan sends Delaney into the corner and nails Delaney with a running clothesline for the win. (*. It went exactly as you’d expect for a Duggan match. The crowd ate it up and it was that simple.)
Final Thoughts:
For the two-night weekend of 2CW action this is a weaker night on paper to begin with. The tag match with Olsen/Walters/Axe/Brown was the match of the night, but it’s not strong enough to bring this to a recommendation level. Night two is a stronger card and is one I’m looking forward to checking out.
