Steve Martin hosts the show and goes over what we’ll see on the show. Bad Attitude squares off against the Road Hoggs in a leather strap match.
Tim Dix is in the ring with Bad Attitude, Rick Michaels and David Young. Michaels says they nobody is going to tell them what they are going to do. Michaels says they never signed for a strap match and he’s not going to let the fans strap him. Young chimes in and says he’s not going to let the rednecks hit him with a belt. Young talks about bleeding in a cage for Bill Behrens, but he’ll be damned if he lets a hillbilly whip him with a strap. Young brags about being the tag champions and Michaels being the NWA Georgia Champion. Young believes nobody can beat them. Young hates everyone in the crowd and in the dressing room. Young tells Behrens he’s not doing a strap match. Michaels says he’s a star and stars don’t do strap matches. Michaels mentions a blonde fan in the crowd who he went to school with and now he’s paying to see him. Michaels assures he’s not competing in the strap match. Dix teases who they’d wrestle, which was already mentioned by Steve Martin. Anyway, it’s the Road Hoggs. Michaels and Young bail to the floor to avoid them. The Road Hoggs cut a promo saying that while it’s not a title match, they’re gonna get it done tonight. Michaels tells Behrens that he built this house one year ago and can’t believe that Behrens would repay him this way. Michaels dares the fans to whip him with a strap tonight because he’ll slap them all.
Opening Contest: Damien Steele vs. Faku: These two started brawling outside the venue and work their way into the ring, which we see them in the ring and not outside. Steele hammers away on Faku and delivers a superkick for a two count. Faku drives Steele down with a Samoan Drop, but rolls to the floor. Mr. Extreme did something to Faku, but the camera didn’t catch it. Steele pins Faku. After the match, Mr. Extreme attacks Steele and Extreme ends up hitting a clothesline to send Steele to the floor. They will meet in the finals of the Wildside tournament at the next TV taping. (DUD. That may have been the worst segment thus far. The crowd didn’t care and it didn’t come across well. I think starting the match outside and not having a camera there to catch it didn’t help matters.)
NCW Heavyweight Champion Thunder is in the ring, but Jeff G. Bailey comes out to confront Thunder. Bailey says that Thunder should be working with him and clams he has the deed to Thunder’s mom’s house and promises to foreclose on her house unless Thunder aligns with him. Tim Dix confirms that it’s legit. Thunder grabs Bailey, but someone slides into the ring and attacks Thunder. Bailey talks about Stone Mountain not getting the job done and he’s been replaced by his new bodyguard. Bailey doesn’t say the new bodyguards name.
Second Contest: Terry Knight vs. Onyx: Knight gets wrist control and forearms Onyx a few times. Onyx fights out of a hammerlock with a headlock. Onyx shoulder blocks Knight, but Knight nails Onyx with a back elbow. Knight rams Onyx into the corner a few times. Knight sends Onyx into the corner and hits a slingshot backbreaker for a two count. Knight slams Onyx and goes to the top hitting an elbow drop 3/4th across the ring for a two count. Knight slams Onyx and hits a twisting leg drop for a near fall. Onyx ducks a clothesline and hits a double under hook overhead suplex for a near fall. Onyx shoulder rams Knight in the corner a few times. Onyx hits a handspring splash in the corner. Onyx snapmares Knight and keeps control with a chin lock. Knight elbows free and hits a spinning forearm smash. Onyx hits a spinebuster, but Knight kicks out at two. Knight decks Onyx to the mat. Onyx battles back with a series of snap suplexs leading to a near fall. They mess up a suplex spot. Knight decks Onyx with a clothesline and grabs a steel chair. Knight leaps off the chair to knee strike Onyx leading to a near fall. Onyx hits a sit out suplex for a near fall. Knight takes Onyx down and locks in a figure four cradle for the win. (*. Honestly, this was a mess. The crowd is lifeless for the match and it was a messy match with several missed spots. It went far too long with all the mess ups and overall lack of interest from the crowd. Onyx working a longer match provided him a chance to shine, which he showed some good offense and potential in that regard. The match felt a bit off, though.)
Steve Martin reveals he’s going by his real name, instead of Chance Williams. Throughout every show he’s changing his name one way or another. So, lets see if this sticks officially.
Third Contest: Scottie Wrenn vs. Jorge Estrada: Estrada gets wrist control, but Wrenn counters with a wrist lock of his own and switches to a hammerlock. Estrada almost wins with a rollup and Wrenn goes to the corner to regroup. Wrenn works over Estrada with a few strikes. Estrada ducks a clothesline and arm drags Wrenn a few times. Estrada dropkicks Wrenn to the floor. Estrada stands on the middle rope and plays to the crowd. Wrenn yanks Estrada to the outside and Al Getz tries to cheap shots Estrada, but that doesn’t work too well. Estrada tries for a sunset flip and nearly wins the match. Estrada drop toe holds Wrenn into the corner. Wrenn elbows Estrada followed by a clothesline. Wrenn backdrops Estrada coming off the ropes to maintain control of the match. Wrenn powerslams Estrada for a two count. Wrenn hits a springboard leg drop for a near fall. Wrenn chokes Estrada over the middle rope. Getz chokes Estrada over the middle rope. Wrenn sends Estrada to the floor where Getz stomps Estrada and yells at the fans. Wrenn kicks Estrada, but misses a clothesline. Estrada atomic drops Wrenn followed by a clothesline. Estrada elbow strikes Wrenn and hits a wheelbarrow bulldog. Estrada covers Wrenn for a two count. Estrada sends Wrenn into the ropes, but Wrenn falls through the ropes to the floor. Estrada fights back with a few strikes and hits a suplex. Wrenn counters a wheelbarrow bulldog by driving Estrada down to the mat gut first. Wrenn hits a sit out press slam for a near fall. Estrada hits a tilt a whirl head scissors. Estrada forearms Wrenn in the corner and continues with strikes. Estrada hip tosses Wrenn for a two count. Estrada sends Wrenn into the corner and delivers a few punches until Wrenn hits a spinning powerbomb for the win. (*1/2. This is essentially an extended squash for Wrenn, and they probably could have cut a few minutes off the match. I’m assuming they didn’t have a lot of angles to fill so they went with extended action. At some point the matches come across as if they were poorly put together and the flow comes across weird to me.) After the match. JC Dazz comes out with a chair and scares Wrenn to the floor.
Bill Behrens comes out and says that Ed Swimmer isn’t going to referee the match. Behrens calls out Steve Martin to be the referee. Rick Michaels calls Martin a bald headed geek and hopes Martin can referee a match better than he does TV.
Main Event: Bad Attitude (Rick Michaels & David Young) vs. Road Hoggs (Joe Harley & Pan Head Nelson) in a leather strap match: Young and Michaels are wearing sweatshirts to combat the potential straps to the back. Young and Nelson kickoff the match with Nelson delivering an elbow drop to Young before tagging in Harley. Harley back elbows Young into the corner. Harley slams Young and delivers another elbows drop. Harley stomps Young on the mat. Young is double teamed briefly on the mat. Nelson sends Young to the floor where a few fans whip Young. Young tags in Michaels quickly and also gets whipped by a few fans. Michaels tags out to Young. Young tosses Harley to the floor, none of the fans whip him, as expected. Michaels eye rakes Harley, but Harley sends Michaels to the floor again. Michaels is whipped several times on the floor by the fans.
Young controls Nelson with a sleeper after a commercial break. Young yanks Nelson down to the mat and tags in Michaels. Michaels delivers an elbow drop for a two count. Young distracts Steve Martin as Michaels misses a middle rope forearm drop. Harley is tagged in and cleans house on Bad Attitude. Young gets his pants pulled down and sent to the floor for a moment. Mark Phor Michaels comes out and accidentally hits Rick Michaels allowing Harley to pin Rick for the win. (*. Rick did a good job selling the strap shots by the fans with his selling. I didn’t like Steve Martin as the referee simply because he was wearing the same clothing as David Young. It looks as if Road Hoggs are the new face team to focus on since Boogaloo Crew are no more. I’m glad there was a finish to the match. I’m sure Mark Phor Michaels will be turning soon.)
Final Thoughts:
Perhaps extended matches on TV are not the go-to move for Wildside. Their shows are stronger when there’s a better focus on angles and the matches are kept a reasonable length. The extended matches will be better once there’s more seasoned wrestler and the structure of the matches flow better. It’s still very early in Wildside’s existence, so there will be growing pains for TV formats.
