Footage from last week is shown where Terry Taylor not only defeated Colorado Kid, but also hit his child with the North American Championship. Well, they don’t show the child getting hit with the championship, but it did happen. We also see footage of the Underdogs winning the NCW Tag Team Championships.
Jeff G. Bailey is in the ring with NCW Television Champion K-Krush, Thunder and Crowbar (not WCW). Bailey declares that AJ Styles isn’t going to get another shot at the title. Bailey calls Styles the poster boy for the queer nation. Bailey tells Thunder to get out of the corner and stand next to him. Bailey tells Thunder he’s tired of acting all down and better stop if he has respect for his mother. Bailey threatens Thunder that Crowbar will take him out. Steve Martin enters the ring to confront Bailey. Martin asks if Bailey will get Styles a title match against Krush. Bailey says that Krush will not be wrestling Styles until Styles provides an HIV test because Krush doesn’t want his sweat getting on him. Martin says he gives the fans their money worth since he runs the company. Martin promises that Krush will work tonight. Bailey says they will give Ed Swimmer another title shot, but Martin declines that offer. Martin announces he’s going to make a match between Krush and Thunder. The crowd goes nuts while Bailey freaks out over this announcement to end the segment.
Opening Contest: NCW United States Champion Romeo Bliss vs. Jorge Estrada: Bliss wants to shake hands with Estrada, but Estrada isn’t interested. Bliss starts off with wrist control on Estrada for the early advantage. Bliss takes Estrada to the mat, but Estrada comes back with an arm drag. Bliss head scissors free and they have a standoff. Bliss backs Estrada into a corner and delivers a chop to keep control. Estrada responds with several chops. Estrada powerslams Bliss out of the corner for a near fall. Estrada dropkicks Bliss, but misses a running crossbody and crashes to the floor. We go to commercial.
They have knocked heads as the referee has been knocked down. Terry Knight comes out with a steel chair and stands on the apron. Knight whacks Estrada over the head and tosses a chair to Bliss. Bliss stares down Knight and the referee sees this leading to a disqualification. (1/2*. Well, poor Estrada. Knight probably didn’t have to actually hit Estrada with the chair to accomplish the goal of screwing over Bliss, but he’s unpredictable, I guess.)
Second Contest: Jesse Taylor vs. Scottie Wrenn: They shove each other before locking up and Wrenn yanks Taylor down by his hair. Wrenn yanks Taylor down to the mat by his hair a second time. Wrenn uses the referee to block out the fans taunting him. Wrenn gains control with a top wrist lock, but Taylor yanks Wrenn down by his head several times. Taylor fireman’s carry Wrenn and keeps arm control. Taylor leg drops Wrenn on the arm and keeps control with a hammerlock. Taylor shoves Wrenn away before locking up again. Wrenn continues to keep control with a side headlock and runs the ropes. Taylor monkey flips Wrenn coming off the ropes and hits an arm drag. Wrenn fights out with right hands to stagger Taylor. Taylor shoulder blocks Wrenn and delivers a leg drop to the lower midsection. Taylor powerslams Wrenn coming off the ropes and plays to the crowd. Taylor heads to the top rope and leaps off hitting an elbow drop for a two count. Taylor hits a splash in the corner, but Wrenn elbows Taylor. Wrenn hits a swinging neckbreaker followed by a springboard leg drop. Wrenn covers Taylor, but Taylor reaches the ropes. Wrenn clotheslines Taylor coming off the ropes. Wrenn tries for a piledriver, but Taylor counters with a backdrop. Taylor punches Wrenn, but Wrenn plants Taylor with a powerbomb to win the match. (*1/2. Not too bad of a match, and I’m glad Wrenn won this cleanly. Taylor going on a losing streak is likely going to setup a complete heel turn. That’s usually what happens in these kind of situations.)
Al Getz comes out and cuts a promo on JC Dazz saying he’s waited ten years for this. Getz brings out his next bounty hunter, and it’s Ruckus. Ruckus tells Dazz the ass whooping is nothing personal, but business. Ruckus is about the money and he’s always been that way.
Third Contest: JC Dazz vs. Ruckus: Ruckus controls Dazz with a headlock and comes off the ropes to deliver a shoulder block. Dazz arm drags Ruckus several times. Ruckus misses a clothesline and Dazz hits a springboard crossbody for a two count. Dazz hammers away on Ruckus several times. Ruckus hits a sit down full nelson bomb. Ruckus axe handles Dazz over the back and hits a powerslam as Dazz comes off the ropes for a two count. Ruckus tosses Dazz through the ropes to the floor. Ruckus follows to the floor and decks Dazz with a strike. Ruckus slams Dazz onto the guard railing. Ruckus jabs Dazz with a chair shot in the midsection and over the back. Ruckus brings a few chairs into the ring and tries for a powerbomb onto the chairs, but Dazz drives Ruckus face first onto the chairs. Dazz leaps off the chairs to try and splash Ruckus, but Ruckus catches Dazz and hits a powerbomb onto the chairs. Ruckus smashes Dazz with a chair shot. Dazz stomps Ruckus in the corner and delivers a knee lift followed by strikes. Ruckus drives Dazz down to the mat, again. Dazz fights back with a heel kick and a springboard splash. Scottie Wrenn comes out to ringside allowing Ruckus to deck Dazz from behind. Ruckus tosses Dazz with a t-bone suplex. Dazz takes out Wrenn with a suicide dive and Getz tries to get involved, but Wrenn clotheslines Dazz on the floor. Ruckus leaps off the apron to splash Dazz. They collide in the ring causing Ruckus to roll to the floor. Wrenn trips Dazz and decks the referee. Wrenn sends Dazz into the corner, but misses Dazz. Dazz kicks Wrenn and hits a full nelson bomb. Wrenn and Ruckus have a standoff on the floor. Ruckus says he doesn’t need Wrenn’s help, but wants the money. Ruckus tells Wrenn next time it will be his ass. This is a no contest. (**. It’s a fine contest, but putting Ruckus in a spot to look like a heel didn’t feel like the right move. I understand it’s a bounty and he’s going for money, but still. Ruckus is a babyface and I’d rather just cheer the guy than have to be confused with his motives.)
Backstage, Ruckus is interviewed and says its no secret he’s been locked up. Ruckus was on vacation for twenty days when he was in jail. Ruckus talks about Terry Lawler not defending his own title. He says Lawler has a short time to defend title. Ruckus is either going to run through Lawler, or just take the title in the only way he can… hardcore style.
Jeff G. Bailey demands K-Krush has his music played because Thunder is going to lay down. Krush demands the music stop, but he raps anyway to the music.
Main Event: NCW Television Champion K-Krush vs. NCW Heavyweight Champion Thunder: Thunder chases Krush around ringside, until Krush rolls into the ring and works over Thunder with strikes. Thunder drops Krush with a big boot. Thunder shoulder blocks Krush to the mat and shoves Krush to the mat. Krush jabs Thunder in the midsection and continues with strikes to the back and midsection. Krush misses a clothesline and Thunder knocks Krush down with a shoulder block as we go to commercial.
Thunder powerbombs Krush out of the corner, but Crowbar enters the ring and attacks Thunder on the pin attempt. Crowbar chokes Thunder over the middle rope. Krush helps with the attack, but AJ Styles runs out and helps Thunder. Styles ducks a clothesline and is met with a forearm smash by Krush. Crowbar and Thunder trade strikes as Styles hits a stunner on Krush. Thunder nails Thunder with a stunner. Styles has a chair with him to keep the heels away. Thunder won by disqualification. (1/2*. Hardly a match, really. But, it did feel like a big match and hopefully it’s something they can revisit before Krush goes to WWF.)
Backstage, Jeff G. Bailey and his guys are interviewed. Bailey has the NCW Heavyweight Championship. Bailey talks to the interviewer, and it’s actually Steve Martin’s wife! Martin enters the scene and tells Bailey he’s not going to insult his wife and they leave. Bailey continues to cut a promo until Jesse Taylor enters the scene. Taylor asks Bailey to manage him and help him out. Bailey whispers something into Taylor’s ear and tells Taylor what he needs to do. Taylor says it’s illegal and agrees to do whatever Bailey asked. They shake hands to end the segment and show.
Final Thoughts:
A good show this week to start the new year. I liked the ending with Taylor because I want to know what Bailey requested from him that would be considered illegal. It’s a good cliffhanger.
