Lance Russell interviews the AWA Tag Team Champions the Midnight Rockers, who have been stripped of the Southern Tag Championships because they can’t hold two sets of titles. Jannetty says the CWA is taking advantage of two four star quality men. Jannetty explains the four stars citing their good looks and their ability in the bedroom. Michaels makes sure to mention that nobody defeated them for the Southern Tag Championships. Michaels wants them to show a tape they have been studying. The tape is a match between Jerry Lawler and Austin Idol where Lawler was rammed into the ring post groin first. Michaels notes that if Lawler and Dundee win the tournament they’d have to wrestle the Midnight Rockers. They are going to make examples of the geeks in Memphis since they have been undefeated since arriving in the area. Michaels decides to give their opponents a tag title match.
Opening Contest: AWA Tag Team Champions Midnight Rockers (Michaels & Jannetty) vs. Rikki Nelson & Ken Raper: Nelson gets the early advantage with dropkicks and that causes the Rockers to try and change their minds. However, the Rockers figure out their offense and dominate the match upon returning. Rockers win the match following a double DDT to Raper.
Second Contest: Maxx Pain & Gary Young vs. David Johnson & Rodney Napper: Pain gets the pin on Johnson following a big splash off the ropes to end the squash match.
Lance Russell talks about the Renegade Rampage tournament and brings out Scott Hall, who is at the top of the leaderboard. Hall notes that he had been a tag champion with Curt Hennig before the Midnight Rockers. Hall sees a similar partnership with Ken Wayne that he had with Hennig. Hall is cutoff by Jimmy Jack Funk and Tijo Khan. Funk calls Hall a sissy and punk. Funk wants Hall to get in the ring. Hall doesn’t end up going into the ring.
Third Contest: Jimmy Jack Funk & Tijo Khan vs. Alan Reynolds & William Thompson: Khan wins the match following a throat thrust to Reynolds. After the match, Funk and Khan attack Reynolds in front of Scott Hall at the announcers table.
Lance Russell interviews Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett wants to wrestle one of the Executioners right now. Jimmy Jack Funk and Tijo Khan come out again to confront Jarrett. They send Jarrett into the ring and corner Jarrett. Manny Fernandez enters the ring with a trash bin and hits both Funk and Khan with it to save Jarrett. Fernandez cuts a promo saying that he’s not a nice man. Fernandez promises that they will coming to Memphis and they will be all choked up.
Jimmy Jack Funk and Tijo Khan come out again demanding Jeff Jarrett to come out again and promises that Jarrett is going to pay and continues to call Jarrett a sissy. Randy Hales has come out to get involved, but Funk refuses to leave the area until Jarrett and Fernandez come out. Hales is shoved to the ground during the segment. Eddie Marlin makes his way out and confronts both men. They eventually leave the area.
Lance Russell and Dave Brown talk about the Renegade Rampage tournament and goes over the rules of the matches and scoring system. Scott Hall, Maxx Pain and Gary Young are tied with 20pts. Bill Dundee has 12pts while there are five wrestlers tied with 10pts.
Lance Russell interviews Sweet Brown Sugar, who is making his debut this week. Sugar is here for the competition and notes that he’s been wrestling for sixteen years. Sugar is honored to be in the CWA. Sugar has seen a lot of people talking smack and promises that if anyone does that to him they’ll be paying for it.
Main Event: Sweet Brown Sugar vs. Keith Eric: Sugar wins the match easily following a missile dropkick. Sugar didn’t even take his ring jacket off.
Sweet Brown Sugar cuts a promo following his victory. Sugar doesn’t like to beat on a person like he just did, but he had to go. Sugar is going to bring wrestling to CWA that they’ve never seen before.
Keith Eric and his manager are demanding that Sweet Sugar Brown to come out again. Sugar returns to the ring for another match with Erich. Sugar won the match quickly with a middle rope crossbody and proceeds to walk backstage.
Final Thoughts:
A lackluster show to start the month as it was heavy on Jimmy Jack Funk and Tijo Khan, but the angle with Jarrett and Fernandez wasn’t all that interesting. It felt like they mistimed the show and that’s why Sweet Sugar Brown appeared again. The show was missing the big names and the Rampage tournament isn’t helping TV by any means.
Thanks for reading.
