Rebooking WCW: Week 1, 1992

I know, I know… ANOTHER rebooking series!? Well, I have been inspired by Bob Colling Jr. and his WWF 1992 series being presented on YouTube. So, introducing my rebook of WCW, starting in January of 1992 and working forward. We start with the first week, including WCW Power Hour, WCW Saturday Night, and the huge WCW/NJPW Supershow II event held in Tokyo!

WCW POWER HOUR

Event Date: January 3rd, 1992

Location: Maine, United States

Attendance: 1,000 [SOLD OUT]

Total Viewers: 20,515

  1. Cactus Jack w/ Gary Hart defeated “Iceman” King Parsons in a singles match when Jack pinned Parsons following a Cactus Elbow.
  2. Paul E. & “Stunning” Steve Promo: Paul E. Dangerously and “Stunning” Steve Austin entered and did a little self promotion as the premiere attraction in WCW today. Austin made clear that the WCW Television Championship isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon!
  3. The Love Machines (Art Barr & 2 Cold Scorpio) defeated Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray) when Barr pinned Ray following a Frog Splash.
  4. Sting Vs. Luger Recap Video: A video package featuring Sting and his former friend-turned-foe Lex Luger covered their falling out and the eventual showdown (coming up at SuperBrawl II).
  5. Chris Benoit defeated Diamond Studd in singles match when Benoit forced Studd to submit via a Crossface.
  6. Rude & Steamboat, Face-to-Face: “Ravishing” Rick Rude, Madusa, and Paul E. Dangerously of The Dangerous Alliance made their way to the ring to speak about Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat’s recent challenge thrown out. Paul E. added a few insults before Rude said that he was always the first one to step up to a challenge, no matter who it was. Steamboat made his way down to the ring and he and Rude went nose-to-nose as the show closed.

WCW SATURDAY NIGHT

Event Date: January 4th, 1992

Location: Tokyo, Japan

Attendance: 2,050

Total Viewers: 1,931,868

  1. “Stunning” Steve Austin w/ Paul E. Dangerously defeated Van Hammer in a singles match when Austin pinned Hammer following the Stun Gun.
  2. Steve Austin Post-Match Interview: Eric Bischoff caught up with “Stunning” Steve Austin and Paul E. Dangerously for a post-match interview. Paul E. called tonight’s match ‘light duty’ for the WCW Television Champion, saying he barely broke a sweat. If that’s the best competition WCW has to offer, they are all in deep, deep trouble!
  3. The Love Machines (Art Barr & 2 Cold Scorpio) defeated Axl & Ian Rotten in a tag team match when Scorpio pinned Ian following a 450 Splash.
  4. Bryan Clark defeated Shane Helms in a singles match when Clark pinned Helms following a Pumphandle Slam.
  5. Rick & Scott Steiner defeated Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray) in a tag team match when Scott pinned Ray following a Frankensteiner.
  6. WCW United States Championship Contract Signing: “Ravishing” Rick Rude and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat both entered for this contract signing to make a match at Clash of Champions XVIII official. A verbal sparring match quickly got underway, the contract was eventually signed, and then Rude and Steamboat had to be pulled apart by WCW officials.
  7. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat defeated Shane Douglas in a singles match when Steamboat pinned Douglas following a Flying Crossbody off the top rope.

WCW/NJPW JAPAN SUPERSHOW II

Event Date: January 4th, 1992

Location: Tokyo, Japan

Attendance: 42,650

Total Viewers: (Unaired in the United States)

  1. Jushin “Thunder” Liger defeated Chris Jericho, Sabu, Kuniaki Kobayashi, Tiger Mask III, and Taz in a six-man match when Liger pinned Jericho following a Liger Bomb.
  2. Hiroshi Hase & Kensuke Sasaki defeated Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray) in a tag team match when Hase pinned Ray following a Northern Lights Suplex.
  3. Chris Benoit defeated Dave Finlay and Masa Saito in three-way elimination match when he pinned Saito following a Diving Headbutt off the top rope.
  4. Steven Regal and Dustin Rhodes w/ Dusty Rhodes fought to a draw when neither man was able to return to his feet to answer a ten-count.
  5. Bam Bam Bigelow defeated El Gigante in Sumo Rules match when Bigelow was able to knock Gigante from the competition ring.
  6. Riki Choshu defeated Cactus Jack w/ Gary Hart in a singles match when Jack caused a disqualification following the use of a weapon.
  7. Rick & Scott Steiner defeated The Dangerous Alliance (Arn Anderson & Bobby Eaton) w/ Paul E. Dangerously in a tag team match when Scott pinned Eaton following a Frankensteiner.
  8. Big Van Vader w/ Harley Race defeated Masahiro Chono in a single match when Vader pinned Chono following a Vader Bomb. Harley Race aided with a distraction at ringside leading into the finish of the match.
  9. Lex Luger w/ Harley Race fought The Great Muta to a draw for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship when the time limit expired. Due to the draw, Lex Luger retained the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

WCW: IN THE NEWS

12/30/91 – 01/05/92

  • The Armstrongs (Brad & Scott Armstrong) have mutually parted ways with WCW. (01/01)
  • Kevin Sullivan, Chris Benoit, Shane Douglas, Gary Hart, Sabu, 2 Cold Scorpio, Art Barr, Steven Regal, Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray), Taz, Bryan Clark, Perry Saturn, Chris Jericho, Jushin “Thunder” Liger, Kevin Sullivan and Scotty Riggs have all accepted written contracts with WCW. No terms have been disclosed. (01/03)
  • Abdullah the Butcher has mutually parted ways with WCW, reportedly over neither parties being able to come to a renewed agreement. (01/03)
  • Dave Sullivan has accepted a written contract with WCW. No terms have been disclosed. (01/05)
