Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Bobby Heenan has a sign and balloons claiming that he’s running for President and notes that he’s a write in candidate.
2.) Special Report hosted by Lord Alfred Hayes this week focuses on Ric Flair becoming the new WWF World Champion last week. Hayes goes over the recent happenings leading into the title win where Savage injured his left knee due to Flair and Perfect’s involvement at SummerSlam. Razor Ramon’s involvement in Savage’s title loss is highlighted, as well.
3.) Martel knee lifts Powers several times in the corner to gain the early advantage. Powers fights back with a hip toss and an arm drag to keep arm control on the mat. Martel misses a strike, and Powers blocks a boot to hit an atomic drop. Powers delivers a clothesline to knock Martel to the mat. Martel strikes Powers with a right hand to the midsection. Martel connects with a gut wrench suplex followed by a knee drop. Martel snapmares Powers and chokes Powers on the mat. Martel rams Powers into the corner and continues with shoulder rams. Martel stomps Powers in the corner several times. Powers jabs Powers into the corner and sends Powers hard into the corner, but Powers strikes Martel away. Powers rams Martel into the corner a few times face first. Powers strikes Martel in the midsection followed by a knee lift. Powers tries for a dropkick, but Martel holds onto the ropes. Martel locks in the Boston Crab and forces a submission to win the match. (*1/2. That wasn’t a bad enhancement match as they kept a fast pace and the action held my interest. Martel picking up clean wins are good for his momentum, too.)
4.) Nasty Boys and Jimmy Hart shared some comments during their match. Sags says that Jimmy Hart is the backbone to Nastyville. Knobbs notes that they are the number one contenders and they’re going to take the titles from WWF Tag Team Champions Natural Disasters. Gorilla Monsoon notes that he heard Money Inc. was the number contenders, and they’re also managed by Jimmy Hart.
5.) Mean Gene conducted a podium interview with WWF World Champion Ric Flair and Mr. Perfect. Flair asks Gene what the people are talking about in London, LA, New York, and Atlanta. Flair believes it’s him being the champion for a second time. Flair tells Gene that he’s not done gloating. Flair says everyone that doubted them were wrong. Gene reveals that the number one contender to the championship is the Ultimate Warrior. Flair reiterates himself one more time saying that if Warrior listened to them then Warrior would be champion, but instead Warrior chose to listen the fans. Flair says Warrior has a chance to listen to them again just like the wimp Savage. Flair believes he’s going to put the figure four on Warrior and make Warrior scream for help. Perfect chimes in and says that Warrior will not be the Ultimate Warrior, but rather the Ultimate loser.
6.) Papa Shango shared pre-tape comments during his match. Shango tells Bret Hart that he has the power of voodoo and to beware.
7.) Next week, Komet Kid debuts, Shawn Michaels, WWF Tag Team Champions Natural Disasters, Nailz, and The Undertaker.
Final Thoughts:
It’s no surprise that Warrior is the number one contender for Flair’s championship. As a viewer, I’d think Warrior would plow through Flair fairly easy. The matchup isn’t a major interest of mine, but there’s no other way they could go. An enjoyable show this week for Wrestling Challenge, though.
Thanks for reading.
