Matches:
1.) Money Inc defeated WWF Tag Team Champions The Natural Disasters to win the titles
2.) WWF Intercontinental Champion British Bulldog defeated Louie Spicolli
3.) Papa Shango defeated Steve Gillespie
4.) Razor Ramon defeated Tito Santana
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Apparently, the tag title match is such a huge match they are a simulcast with the Superstars commentary team of Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect. McMahon doesn’t think Money Inc. will win the titles. Mr. Perfect, obviously, picks Money Inc. to win the titles tonight.
2.) Prior to the tag title match beginning, the Nasty Boys marched down to the ring to confront Money Inc. after their entrance. The Nasty Boys are pissed with Jimmy Hart since they didn’t get the title shot. Money Inc. stepped in and begged off as the Nasty Boys got aggressive towards them, as well. DiBiase takes out some cash and tries to bribe the Nasty Boys. Knobbs initially denies the first bribe, but gets more cash. However, it’s still not enough. IRS gives a handful of cash and that appears to change their minds. The Nasty Boys pocket the money, but then attack Money Inc. Nasty Boys deliver double clotheslines and toss IRS over the top to the floor. DiBiase also gets a double clothesline for his troubles. Nasty Boys leave Money Inc. laying both in the ring and on the floor. IRS appears to be holding his left knee as the WWF World Tag Team Champions make their way down to the ring.
3.) DiBiase is pummeled in the corner and met with a double shoulder block. Typhoon splashes DiBiase in the corner and Earthquake does the same. Typhoon splashes DiBiase a second time. Quake hits another running splash, as well. DiBiase flops to the mat. Typhoon scoop slams DiBiase, but is tripped by IRS from the floor. DiBiase clubs Typhoon over the back and chokes Typhoon over the middle rope. IRS rams Typhoon into the corner and continues with strikes. DiBiase tags into the match and rams Typhoon into the corner followed by chops. DiBiase rams Typhoon into the corner several times and IRS tags in to ram Typhoon into the corner back first. IRS delivers an elbow drop several times. Typhoon powers out of a pin attempt easily. IRS tries for a suplex, but Typhoon is too big and blocks it. Typhoon manages to hit IRS with a suplex of his own. Typhoon crawls to the corner and tags in Quake as DiBiase is tagged in, as well. Quake hammers away on DiBiase followed by a kick in the corner and elbows DiBiase to the mat. Quake atomic drops IRS over the top to the floor. Quake grabs DiBiase and delivers a powerslam. Quake elbow drops DiBiase, but the Headshrinkers make their way down to the ring. Typhoon is standing ground on the floor to prevent the Headshrinkers. Money Inc. deck Quake from behind and sends Quake over the corner to the floor where Quake hits his head on the railing as the show goes to commercial.
Quake is clearly dazed from hitting his head. DiBiase rams Quake into the corner head first and the challengers ram Quake back first into the corner. IRS jumps onto Quake’s back for a sleeper, but Quake drives IRS into the corner to break free. DiBiase enters and puts a sleeper on Quake. Quake drops to a knee, but Quake rams DiBiase into the corner again. IRS jumps onto Quake’s back to keep Quake on his knees. Quake rams IRS into the corner to break free again. DiBiase enters and locks in the Million $ Dream. Quake gets to his feet after a struggle, but he’s fading. Quake drops to his knees again. The referee checks Quake’s arm three times and Quake is out cold. Money Inc. have won the tag team titles. (**1/2. It’s probably the biggest match on Wrestling Challenge this year, but I also have a bad memory as to what I’ve reviewed to this point. A title change on TV doesn’t tend to happen often in this era, so it’s a memorable moment. I enjoyed the match and they told a good story throughout. It would appear that the direction is going to be Money Inc. vs. Nasty Boys since the Nasty Boys just turned babyface. I don’t hate that direction. There’s probably more of a draw there than there would be if the Disasters retained and feuded with the Headshrinkers for the tag titles.)
4.) Jimmy Hart runs over to the commentary table and celebrates with Bobby Heenan. Monsoon is disgusted with Hart for stabbing the Nasty Boys in the back. Hart is happy he made the right decision because Money Inc. won the titles. The Nasty Boys come down to confront Jimmy Hart at the commentary table. Knobbs kicks Heenan off the commentary table. Knobbs says Hart sold them out and he’s pissed. Money Inc. run out to confront the Nasty Boys. Knobbs gives Hart the Pity City. Sags press slams Hart off the commentary podium and onto the new tag champs to end the segment.
5.) A vignette promoting the return of Bam-Bam Bigelow is shown.
6.) During the British Bulldog’s enhancement match, a mysterious clown was seen in the crowd. Also, Bulldog shared pre-tape comments saying it has been a great year for the Hart Family. Bulldog wishes new WWF World Champion Bret Hart good luck as the new champion and knows Bret will be a fighting champion.
7.) Special Report hosted by Lord Alfred Hayes focuses on Nailz behavior on WWF Superstars. They highlight the confrontation between Nailz and the Undertaker. There wasn’t any physical combat.
8.) There’s a special music video package promoting the new WWF World Champion Bret Hart.
9.) Survivor Series Report hosted by Mean Gene is next. Gene promotes the matches announced. WWF World Champion Bret Hart defending against Shawn Michaels. The Undertaker battles Kamala in a coffin match. We go to the Undertaker’s workshop where Undertaker is working on a special coffin for Kamala. Bearer says the coffin match has never been more fitting for the Survivor Series. Bearer says the coffin is going to be a custom made one for Kamala. Undertaker doesn’t say a word during the segment. Gene announces a new match as Rick Martel battles Tatanka. There will be a nightstick match between Big Bossman and Nailz. Bossman shared some comments saying he wants everyone to get ready for Survivor Series where there will be a war between them. Bossman promises he’s going to use the nightstick and Nailz will serve nothing but hard time. Also, the tag main event which will see the team of Randy Savage and Ultimate Warrior taking on Razor Ramon and Ric Flair. Warrior rambles about their red and yellow colors meaning stop and caution, but that doesn’t apply to them. Savage chimes in and says they are the kind of guys you read about, but they have to wrestle them. Savage promises they will survive at the PPV.
10.) Santana punches Ramon several times and ducks a clothesline to hit a flying forearm knocking Ramon through the ropes to the floor. Ramon quickly gets back into the ring. Santana arm drags Ramon and they have a standoff. Santana gains arm control and delivers a dropkick followed by another arm drag. Santana keeps Ramon on the mat with an arm bar. Ramon strikes Santana a few times followed by a scoop slam, but misses a few elbow drop attempts. Santana arm drags Ramon again to regain the momentum. Ramon strikes Santana, but Santana comes off the ropes and Ramon drops Santana throat first over the ropes. Ramon stomps Santana on the mat several times followed by forearm strikes to the lower back. Ramon locks in an abdominal stretch, but Santana doesn’t submit. Santana counters, but Ramon hip tosses Santana. Ramon locks in a bearhug in the middle of the ring. Santana manages to counter with a sunset flip for a near fall. Santana decks Ramon a few times and rams Ramon head first onto the top turnbuckle. Santana sends Ramon into the corner and tries for a monkey flip, but Ramon holds onto the ropes. Ramon lifts Santana up and delivers the Razors Edge to win the match clean. (**. Ramon is one of the few new additions that, well, oozes star presence. The match was solid enough and the clean finish for Ramon is the right call since he’s in the main event and a major player at this point for the WWF. I’m onboard for a massive push for Ramon. He’s a fresh talent and works well.)
11.) Next week, Marty Jannetty will be in action. The Headshrinkers are in tag action. Crush competes. A special interview with Ric Flair and Razor Ramon. Plus, Tatanka battles a Beverly brother.
12.) The Beverly Brothers cut a promo about being undefeated (which is not true). Beau says that no matter who wrestles Tatanka, Tatanka will have a slash in the loser column. Tatanka also cut a promo saying he didn’t care who he wrestles because either one of them is going to find out about Tatanka.
Final Thoughts:
It’s a good episode of Wrestling Challenge with a big title change, Nasty Boys turning face and another good feature match between Ramon and Santana. An overall easy episode with a lot going on.
Thanks for reading.
