Rhodes continues with right hands on the mat. They roll to the floor to continue brawling. Cactus back rakes Rhodes on the floor. They brawl on the aisle and the referee counts both men out to end the match. (**1/4. So, I thought this was a fine brawl as it didn’t come across as a wrestling match but rather a fight. I think it’s safe to say that they are going to have another match on TV. Cactus being protected before his title match at the Clash is logical, as well.)
3.) Johnny B. Badd won his enhancement match following a left hook.
4.) Michael Hayes shows his new music video, which is only him and not the Freebirds.
5.) WCW United States Champion Rick Rude won his enhancement match quickly with the Rude Awakening.
6.) Michael Hayes and Jim Ross promote the elimination match taking place at the Clash. We then see Jake Roberts interview with Jesse Ventura that took place on WCW Worldwide. Roberts knows people wonder why he does the things he does. Roberts nobody has a clue about where he has been. Roberts says it is much better to be the hunter than the hunted. Roberts wants the whole world not just a piece of it. Roberts says the good guys are squirrels trying to get his nut. Roberts brings a gun and bird dog when he goes hunting. Roberts will drown the seeds that WCW plants, or burn them. It’s that simple.
7.) Sting and Valentine kickoff the main event. Valentine backs Sting into a corner and teases an elbow strike, but cleanly backs off. Sting puts a headlock on Valentine, but Valentine sends Sting into the ropes where Sting delivers a shoulder block and gets a rollup on Valentine. Valentine knee lifts Sting followed by strikes. Slater enters and strikes Sting before looking for an atomic drop, but Sting counters with an atomic drop of his own. Sting keeps control with a headlock. Koloff enters the match and puts a headlock on Slater. Koloff puts a headlock on Slater to maintain the advantage. Koloff is backed into a corner and they trade strikes for a moment until Koloff puts a headlock on Slater. Slater hits a back suplex on Koloff and tags in Valentine. Valentine works over Koloff in the corner with chops. Koloff and Valentine trade strikes in the corner until Valentine backs Koloff away. Koloff boots Valentine in the corner to avoid a charging attack. Valentine clubs Koloff over the back and elbows Koloff on the mat. Valentine strikes Koloff several times on the mat and puts a headlock on Koloff. Koloff is pummeled by Slater behind the referees back. Slater snapmares Koloff.
Valentine kicks Koloff on the knee several times dropping Koloff to the mat. Slater kicks Koloff on the left knee to maintain control of the bout. Slater puts a toe hold on Koloff, but settles for a boot scrape. Slater delivers a swinging neckbreaker for a near fall. Valentine axe handles Koloff over the arm from the middle rope. Koloff strikes Valenitne, but Valentine gets a two count with a rollup. Valentine elbow drops Koloff on the right knee, which they had not been working on before. Slater returns to the match and stomps Koloff on the mat. Slater jabs Koloff a few times followed by a right hand to drop Koloff to the mat. Koloff kicks Slater to avoid a backdrop attempt. Valentine enters the match to stop Koloff from tagging out. Koloff counters a figure four with a rollup for a two count. Koloff backslides Valentine for a two count. Valentine misses an elbow drop. Sting enters the match and cleans house with a dropkick and strikes. Sting splashes both men in the corner. All four men are brawling at this point. Koloff nails Valentine with a leaping should block. Sting bulldogs Valentine for the win. (*. So they had plenty of time, but i didn’t find this to be all that entertaining. Slater didn’t do much of anything to keep me engaged as a viewer. I wasn’t expecting a classic by any means, but considering the time they were given they could have done more than they did.)
8.) Next week, Cactus Jack will square off against Dustin Rhodes in a falls count anywhere match.
9.) Jim Ross asks Michael Hayes about being associated with Bobby Eaton and Arn Anderson at the Omni. Hayes tells Ross that he’ll reveal what’s going on when he wants to, and suggests on Wednesday at the Clash he’ll tell the world. Hayes promises he will not be their manager as the rumor mill is suggesting.
Final Thoughts:
An average episode, but not something that is must-see by any means. They are promoting the Clash fairly well, but TV hasn’t been as strong as it had been in the earlier spring/summer months.
Thanks for reading.
