World Wrestling Federation presents Heat
Date:
7/22/2001
From: Cleveland, OH

Matches:
1.) Chavo Guerrero Jr. defeated Scotty 2 Hotty

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) This is the same night as InVasion, thus Heat is primarily being used to promote the pay per view.

2.) Coach and Al Snow are on commentary. Snow heavily hypes up the show as the show he never thought he’d ever see between the WWF, WCW and ECW.

3.) A good portion of the program is highlight videos promoting various matches taking place on the InVasion event.

4.) Guerrero puts a headlock on Hotty before hitting a shoulder block. Hotty floats over Guerrero and hits a hip toss, but is kicked away and they have a standoff. Guerrero sends Hotty into the corner followed by kicks in the corner. Hotty tries for a hip toss, but settles for a superkick for a near fall. Guerrero eye rakes Hotty, but Hotty dumps Guerrero to the apron and yanks Guerrero off to the apron face first. Hotty decks Guerrero with a right hand on the floor. Guerrero drop toe holds Hotty into the ring steps. Guerrero drops Hotty face first over the railing. Guerrero rolls Hotty into the corner and hits a springboard splash for a two count. Guerrero rams Hotty into the corner and delivers an uppercut before choking Hotty in the corner. Hotty strikes Guerrero several times, but runs into an elbow. Guerrero dropkicks Hotty off the middle rope for a near fall. Guerrero keeps a sleeper on Hotty. Hotty strikes Guerrero, but avoids a slam. Guerrero holds onto the ropes, but Hotty drops Guerrero to the mat chest first. Hotty heads to the top rope, but is crotched by Guerrero. Guerrero takes Hotty off the top rope hitting a hurricanrana for a two count. Guerrero chops Hotty against the ropes and sends Hotty into the corner chest first before hitting a back suplex for a near fall. They begin to trade right hands in the middle of the ring. Guerrero tries for a hurricanrana, but Hotty counters by dropping Guerrero chest first over the top rope. Hotty hammers away on Guerrero and backdrops Guerrero. Hotty hits a bulldog out of the corner and signals for the WORM. Hotty executes the WORM. Hotty tries for a cover, but Guerrero kicks out at two. Guerrero elbows Hotty from the apron and attempts a springboard, but Hotty slams Guerrero in midair for a two count. Guerrero avoids a back elbow and spikes Hotty with a brainbuster to pickup the clean victory. (**1/2. A solid, competitive bout between these two. Guerrero picking up a clean victory is the right call to give the Alliance guys some momentum into a pay per view that they are clearly the underdogs. Besides, Guerrero is a viable competitor in the Cruiserweight division. The crowd is coming across as white hot for this event already on Heat.)

5.) Backstage, Mick Foley has arrived to the arena when Lilian Garcia runs up to interview him. Foley talks about being beaten up and embarrassed by all three companies represented tonight. Foley pulls out a referee from his bag and reveals he’s going to be the referee for the match between referees. Foley has a top secret reason for being there, too.

Final Thoughts:
An effective program to hype up InVasion. The video packages were good, and we got a solid feature match. I’d be wanting to check out InVasion thanks to the crowd clearly being invested in the show, too.
