World Wrestling Federation presents Superstars
Date: 4/6/1996
From: San Diego, CA
Matches:
1.) Ahmed Johnson defeated Tim Patterson
2.) Hunter Hearst Helmsley defeated Fatu
3.) Jerry Lawler defeated Greg Davis
4.) Duke Droese defeated Raven Clark
5.) Vader defeated Shawn Dakota
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Ahmed Johnson won the Newest Sensation Award at the Slammys last Saturday. He proceeded to easily defeat his opponent with a taped right hand after hitting the Pearl River Plunge. Ahmed is intense and the crowd digs him.
2.) Fatu starts off with a shoulder block to knock Helmsley to the mat. Helmsley goes to the corner to regroup for a moment. Fatu shoulder blocks Helmsley a second time, and Helmsley goes to the corner again. Fatu backs Helmsley into a corner, but cleanly backs off. Helmsley responds with a slap and Fatu slaps back. Fatu backdrops Helmsley out of the corner and follows up with a running clothesline in the corner. We see two Samoan thugs on the aisle d to seemingly intimidate Fatu in the crowd. Helmsley nails Fatu with a clothesline. Helmsley stomps on Fatu and they go to the floor. Helmsley rams Fatu face first onto the ring steps. Helmsley continues with an elbow strike and knee drop for a two count. Helmsley uppercuts Fatu and tries for the Pedigree, but Fatu counters with a backdrop. Fatu nails Helmsley with a headbutt followed by strikes. Fatu powerslams Helmsley leading to a near fall. Helmsley shoves Fatu away to avoid a running cutter and knee strikes Fatu into the corner. Fatu misses a spear and hits the ring post. Helmsley spikes Fatu with a Pedigree for the win. (**. There wasn’t a slow part to the match, so I liked the constant action. It held my interest and a clean win for Helmsley always works for me.)
3.) Jerry Lawler does commentary during his squash match, which you could hear a pin drop during because the crowd doesn’t care about him, at all.
Final Thoughts:
A decent episode of Superstars this week with HHH/Fatu working a fine match. Lawler’s match gave me second hand embarrassment for how uninterested the crowd seemed in his work.
Thanks for reading.
