Last week, Terry Knight and Eddie Golden attacked JC Dazz, but Scottie Wrenn tossed his former partner and now enemy to the floor to seemingly save Dazz. That caused confusion amongst the NWA Elite.
Backstage, Steven Prazak interviews commissioner Al Getz. Getz announces that the NWA Tag Team Champions Triple X lost to the team of Bad Attitude. Getz says that since Bad Attitude won the NWA Tag Team Championships he must strip Bad Attitude of the tag titles in Wildside. Getz announces a tournament to crown new Wildside Tag Team Champions. American Males will wrestle the Backseat Boys from NWA New Jersey. The tournament will air over the next two weeks. Also, the Perfect Creation will square off against NWA Elite. Total Destruction and the Cole Twins will meet in another first round match. There will be a mega rumble under Texas Tornado rules where a team enters every two minutes. The last two teams in that mega rumble will be in the tournament. Included in the battle royal is Scottie Wrenn.. by himself. Getz notes that Wrenn has tried to find a partner, but he’s done some things to prevent people to want to team with him.
Backstage, the Backseat Boys cut a promo. However, it’s not Johnny Kashmere and Trent Acid. Instead, it’s Johnny Kashmere and Donnie B (Nova’s brother, credit Dan Wilson for educating me here). Donnie says they represent New Jersey and says there’s nothing people can do about it.
MATCH #1: BATTLE ROYAL — TAG TITLE TOURNAMENT QUALIFYING MATCH
FINISH: Scottie Wrenn pins a member of the Death Squad following a leg drop to advance. After the match, NWA Elite beat down a bloodied Scottie Wrenn. Cole Twins come out and attack Wrenn. Total Destruction rush the ring to brawl with the Cole Twins.
Bob’s Take: Scottie Wrenn is by himself and is the first person to enter the match. I honestly couldn’t tell you a lot of the guys involved inn this match as I don’t think I’ve seen most of these guys on Wildside TV. There’s a team named the Love Handles making their debut, but the fans chant “jobbers” towards them. Wrenn eliminated the Eagles by himself. White Trash and Dan Thrasher are the final team involved in the match. NWA Elite come out where Terry Knight decks Wrenn with a championship shot to the head. Wrenn must be officially out of the group.
Match Rating: *
MATCH #2: THE COLE TWINS VS. TOTAL DESTRUCTION — TAG TITLE TOURNAMENT MATCH
FINISH: The referee throws out the match due to absolute chaos.
Bob’s Take: There’s action in the ring, but there’s also violent chair shots on the floor. Riddle is on the floor brawling while Royal controlled the action in the ring. The mayhem caused the double disqualification, and since there was only six teams in the tournament, this makes sense.
Match Rating: NR
Backstage, Total Destruction cut a promo about it not being the last time they bleed. They know that the NWA Elite are afraid of them. They proceed to cut a promo about not doing drugs and they are drug free. They are dismissing Bailey’s accusation they do drugs. There can only be one tag team champion and it will be them.
Backstage, The Cole Twins cut a promo saying they can’t wait to get in the ring with Total Destruction. They promise they can be stiff, if not stiffer than anyone. Be prepared for a showdown.
MATCH #3: BACKSEAT BOYS (DONNIE B & KASHMERE) VS. AMERICAN MALES (ADAM JACOBS & SILKY BOOM BOOM) — TAG TITLE TOURNAMENT MATCH
FINISH: Boom Boom hits a top rope hurricanrana on Kashmere and Jacobs hit a top rope leg drop to pickup the win.
Bob’s Take: The match is joined a little bit in progress. Donnie is the brother of Nova from ECW. Jacobs hit a dive over the ropes, but is stopped by Donnie’s DDT. Donnie uses a reverse Boston Crab, but can’t get a submission. Kashmere hit a nice springboard twisting senton on Jacobs. The finish is a good one for the American Males. Boom Boom is a good worker when he’s allowed to display his work and Adam Jacobs has been a great addition. Yes, they do the American Males WCW taunt, too. Which, they should absolutely do. Donnie was fine here and was better than I thought he’d be. I truly thought he was Nova and was stunned to find out they are twin brothers.
Match Rating: **1/2
Backstage, Ultimate Creation cut a promo. They promise they will be the next Wildside Tag Team Champions. They are the beginning and the end of all Wildside tag teams.
MAIN EVENT: ULTIMATE CREATION (JASON ULTIMA & PERFECT CREATION) VS. NWA ELITE (TERRY KNIGHT & ONYX) — TAG TITLE TOURNAMENT MATCH
FINISH: Late in the match, Jeff G. Bailey tries to get involved, but runs away from Creation. Knight nails Ultima with the title and wins the match to advance.
Bob’s Take: NWA Elite can’t get any momentum going on early into the match. Knight took a good backdrop early into the action. Onyx cuts off Ultima with a clothesline to gain the advantage. Ultimate Creation isn’t a team that I seem to connect with all that much. They do some good in-ring stuff, but I’m not buying into them as a viable team. Creation is met with a double flapjack to the mat. For the most part, this is a formula tag match. The finish is a bit predictable. It kind of felt like it dragged on a bit longer than it needed to be.
Match Rating: *1/2
Final Thoughts:
The entire episode is dedicated to the tag tournament, but at least it wasn’t incredibly boring. I enjoyed the Males vs. Backseat Boys match. Wrenn is being positioned as a face again, and that’s the right move. I don’t think Wrenn had a successful heel run, at all.
Thanks for reading.
