Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Tony Schiavone and Dasha Gonzalez promote Jon Moxley and believe he’s not scared of anything and plays by his own rules.
2.) Peter Avalon cuts a promo during his entrance and tells the crowd to be quiet, but notes they don’t listen. Avalon thinks they all drink cheap malt liquor. Leva Bates chimes in and apologizes.
3.) Chuck Taylor has joined Excalibur on commentary for this weeks episode of AEW Dark. Orange Cassidy is casually sitting next to Taylor.
4.) Havoc bails to the floor to start the three way dance and looks under the ring causing Leva to run away. Sky nails Havoc with a boot on the floor and drops Avalon over the top rope. Bates pulls Sky to the floor causing Avalon to miss an elbow drop. Sky gets a two count on Avalon followed by strikes in the corner. Sky hits a middle rope crossbody for a two count. Sky rams Avalon into the corner, but Havoc arm drags Sky into the corner and hits a sit out DDT on Avalon. Havoc suplexs Sky into the corner for a near fall. Havoc stomps on Sky to maintain control and bites Sky’s leg before biting Avalon. Havoc strikes Sky but misses a clothesline. Sky nails both men with strikes, but Avalon knee lifts Sky and Havoc connects with a neckbreaker. Sky is stomped on the mat for a moment. Sky is double teamed in the corner. Avalon forearms Sky in the corner and Havoc delivers a running uppercut. Avalon double knee strikes Havoc over the back. Sky clotheslines Avalon and back elbows Havoc to the mat. Sky dropkicks Avalon coming off the ropes. Havoc elbows Sky, but is dumped to the apron. Havoc bites Sky’s hand on the apron, but Avalon knocks Havoc off to the floor. Sky belly to belly suplexs Avalon over the top onto Havoc on the floor. Sky hits a somersault dive over the top onto both men on the floor. Sky elbows Havoc, but misses a slingshot cutter and is met with an uppercut by Havoc. Havoc stops Sky on the middle rope to hit a sit out Death Valley Driver for a near fall. Havoc grabs a staple gun and rolls into the ring. Avalon stops Havoc from behind. Avalon grabs a book from Bates to taunt the fans. Sky dumps Avalon to the floor. Sky hits Havoc with the book and hits a slingshot cutter. Avalon sends Sky to the floor and almost steals the match, but Sky makes the save. Sky kicks Avalon and hits the TKO for the win. (**. I didn’t think anyone else in this match was going to win, so the predictable manner of the match made me tune out a little bit. I wish Avalon had a better gimmick to showcase his skills.)
5.) A vignette promoting the Dark Order recruiting members is shown.
6.) Dr. Britt Baker has now joined commentary replacing Chuck Taylor.
7.) Luchasaurus knocks Reynolds down leading to Silver tagging in and stepping up to Luchasaurus. Silver tries to chop Luchasaurus, but that has zero impact. Luchasaurus blocks a chop and drops Silver with a chop. Luchasaurus knocks Reynolds down with a boot. Stunt enters and misses a splash in the corner, but elbows Silver. Stunt hits a middle rope elbow drop on Silver. Stunt dropkicks Reynolds and heel kicks Silver for a two count. Silver rolls to the floor to regroup. Stunt is met with a forearm over the back by Reynolds and Silver kicks Stunt for a near fall. Silver rams Stunt into the corner and tags in Reynolds to deliver strikes in the corner. Reynolds slams Stunt and stands on Stunt’s hair while pulling his arms. Silver returns to the match and stomps Stunt on the mat. Stunt strikes Silver a few times, but a knee lift stops him. Silver tries for a cover, but Stunt kicks out at two. Silver chokes Stunt over the middle rope. Silver tries for a cover, but Stunt kicks out. Silver rams Stunt into the corner and runs into an elbow and forearm. Stunt decks Reynolds off the apron. Silver press slams Stunt and Reynolds delivers a cutter on the way down for a near fall. Reynolds tries for a suplex, but Stunt counters with an inside cradle for a two count. Stunt kicks Reynolds away a few times, but Reynolds keeps hold on Stunt’s foot. Stunt manages to make the tag and Luchasaurus cleans house with kicks. Luchasaurus hits a wheelbarrow German suplex on Silver. Luchasaurus nails Reynolds with a kick and grabs Silver to deliver a double chokeslam. Luchasaurus holds Reynolds over his shoulder and Stunt hit a blockbuster to pin Reynolds for the win. (*1/2. Obviously one-sided, but not a complete squash. I like Luchasaurus quite a bit and Stunt is an enjoyable underdog character. Silver and Reynolds should get some shine at some point as I’ve liked their work in CZW before this.)
8.) Lexy Nair hosts a segment talking about the women’s division. Lexy talks about what happened on Dynamite regarding the women. Nyla Rose has been suspended for the remainder of 2019 due to her actions on Dynamite. Lexy also talks about Brandi Rhodes and Awesome Kong confronting Kris Statlander to join their group.
9.) A video package promoting Big Swole is aired. Swole explains what she’s all about. April 3rd, 2008 is the date where he died. Swole has Crohn’s disease. Swole can’t have children and contemplated quitting several times. They show footage of Omega offering Swole a contract backstage. Swole gives uplifting message about not caring what people think about you.
10.) Footage of Christopher Daniels getting checked on by a doctor and admits he came back too soon after suffering another piledriver. Daniels feels he’s not good enough to beat Pentagon and needs to find out a way to beat him and do so quick.
11.) A video package promoting the Butcher, the Blade and Bunny is shown. They are disgusted by Cody being on every ad and they are there to torture Cody. They are in AEW to cut the head off the snake.
12.) A video package oif MJF cutting a promo with Wardlow sitting behind him is shown. MJF was able to use his money to buy the assistance of Butcher, Blade and Bunny. MJF reveals he was behind that attack. MJF brags about his Dynamite ring and says a couple grand won’t impact his bank account. MJF notes that Cody needs to find a partner and hits on Bunny’s looks. MJF believes Cody doesn’t have any friends left to choose from. MJF cares about Cody’s wellbeing. MJF says “good luck, champ.” But, then stops himself and reminds us that Cody can’t be champ because of him.
13.) It is announced that QT Marshall has been picked to be Cody’s partner for a match against Butcher & Blade this week on Dynamite.
14.) Footage of Santana and Ortiz freaking out backstage and issuing a challenge to the Young Bucks is shown. Santana wants a Texas street fight on Dynamite. Excalibur talks about having seen the Bucks do incredible things and especially crazy things in matches with no rules.
15.) Chuck Taylor has rejoined commentary for the main event.
16.) Omega controls Sabian with a waist lock, but Sabian counters quickly. Omega and Sabian counter each other on the mat several times. Omega shoulder blocks Sabian and leg sweeps Sabian to the mat a couple of times. Sabian shoves Omega, but is met with a few chops. Sabian avoids a chop, but Omega delivers a few strikes against the ropes. Omega misses a chop and Sabian delivers a kick. Sabian shoves Omega into the ropes, but Omega dropkicks Sabian on the knee followed by a bulldog for a near fall. Omega rams Sabian into the corner and delivers a chop. Sabian blocks being chopped by protecting himself. Omega chops Sabian several times. Omega leaping elbow strikes Sabian in the corner. Omega is kicked away in the corner and Sabian kicks Omega on the head. Omega chops Sabian to the floor. Omega pounds the mat preparing for a dive to the floor. Penelope Ford gets on the apron to distract Omega. Sabian kicks Omega and hits a hurricanrana to send Omega to the floor. Ford leaps off the apron to hit a hurricanrana on the floor!
Sabian takes Omega out with a somersault dive over the ropes onto Omega. Sabian rolls Omega back into the ring and kisses Ford. Sabian springboard dropkicks Omega for a two count. Sabian strikes Omega over the back and chokes Omega over the middle rope. Sabian sends Omega into the corner. Omega strikes Sabian, but Sabian hits an elevated twisting neckbreaker for a near fall. Sabian casually kicks Omega on the mat. Sabian strikes Omega over the back a few times. Sabian and Omega trade strikes. Sabian kicks Omega in the midsection. They continue to trade strikes until Omega nails Sabian with a knee strike. Omega decks Sabian with a clothesline. Omega delivers a few axe strikes and hits a rolling fireman carry slam and hits a moonsault off the middle rope for a two count. Sabian nails Omega with a kick to avoid a dragon suplex. Omega dumps Sabian to the apron, but Sabian hits a tornado DDT. Sabian tries for a cover, but Omega kicks out at two.
Omega boots a charging Sabian in the corner. Omega is dumped to the apron where Sabian eye rakes Omega. Ford gets involved allowing Sabian to dropkick Omega on the apron. Sabian tries for a springboard, but is met with a powerbomb. Omega nails Sabian with a knee strike to the face. Sabian pulls the referee in front to stop Omega. Ford gets in the ring to distract Omega by spitting on Omega. Sabian almost collides with Ford. Ford delivers a stunner to Omega and Sabian hits a reverse hurricanrana followed by a kick for a two count. Omega blocks a kick attempt. Omega delivers the V-Trigger over the middle rope followed by a dragon suplex. Omega hits another snap dragon suplex. Ford tries to get involved, but Omega avoids her and nails Sabian with another knee before hitting the Tiger Driver ’98 for a two count. Omega delivers another knee strike over the middle rope. Omega hits the One Winged Angel for the win. (**1/2. A decent match, but Ford getting involved had to be a thing because Sabian on his own doesn’t stand a chance against Omega. I wouldn’t say Sabian did anything here that gave me a wow factor or overly impressive.)
Final Thoughts:
I’d consider this a skippable episode of AEW Dark as there wasn’t any of much entertainment in terms of in-ring action. They touched on a few feuds fairly well, though. They promoted Dynamite fairly well, as well. So, I’m looking forward to Dynamite, at least.
