World Wrestling Federation presents Heat
Date: 9/30/2001
From: Dayton, OH
Backstage, Torrie Wilson is getting ready for her mixed tag match when Stacy Keibler gets in front of her and talks about not wanting to have to beat her up. Keibler gives Wilson a chance to back out of the match. Wilson appreciates the offer and responds with a slap before attacking Keibler further until officials get involved.
Tommy Dreamer is the special guest this week on Heat.
MATCH #1: LANCE STORM VS. BILLY GUNN
FINISH: Storm counters the Fame-Asser with half Boston Crab to force a submission.
Bob’s Take: Early it’s a strike focused battle with both men delivering strikes, but Gunn hits the first big move by driving Storm down with a tilt a whirl slam. Ivory provided a distraction on the floor to allow Storm to get the advantage and work over Gunn’s right knee. Gunn fights back rather easily with clotheslines and a backdrop. Storm countering the Fame-Asser for the finish to get a submission victory has to be seen as an upset. Is that crazy to say at this point in the WWF? I think what is throwing me off is the fact he managed to do it cleanly.
Match Rating: **
Backstage, Tommy Dreamer is on the phone saying WWF New York is amazing. A production guy asks if Dreamer needs anything. Dreamer asks for some shrimp cocktails after being told everything is on the house. Dreamer tells the person on the phone to bring everyone in since it is comped.
Backstage, Torrie Wilson runs up to Tajiri and wants Stacy Keibler all to herself and if Tajiri takes care of Tazz then Tajiri gets Wilson to himself tonight. Tajiri is fired up after getting a few kisses.
MATCH #2: MIKE AWESOME VS. SPIKE DUDLEY
FINISH: Dudley counters a top rope powerbomb with a hurricanrana for the win.
Bob’s Take: Spike is looking like a mini-Big Show with his tights. Awesome displayed his early power with an overhead suplex and sending Dudley viciously into the corner. Awesome continued with a release German suplex. Dudley head scissors Awesome to the floor, but gets rammed into the post back first. Awesome avoids the Acid Drop at one point and delivered a powerbomb. I think it is insane that we got a top rope hurricanrana counter by Spike on Heat of all shows. That was insane. A huge victory for Spike.
Match Rating: **1/4
A vignette promoting Diamond Dallas Page is shown, where he’s doing his motivational speaker gimmick. This was on Metal, but I didn’t note it.
Backstage, WWF Hardcore Champion Rob Van Dam is stretching when WWF Light Heavyweight/WCW Cruiserweight Champion X-Pac walks in and asks if RVD has seen how the WWF has been treating him lately. Pac is asking if RVD would put in a word for him to join the Alliance. RVD suggests Pac call Shane or Stephanie. Pac gets offended and doesn’t know the big deal about RVD. RVD does his arm taunt and Pac leaves annoyed.
MATCH #3: PERRY SATURN VS. RAVEN
FINISH: Terri distracts Saturn allowing Raven to deliver the Raven Effect for the victory.
Bob’s Take: Raven didn’t even get an entrance for TV and this is a rematch from the PPV, but isn’t the main event of the C-show. Saturn takes Raven out with a springboard crossbody to the floor early on. Raven sends Saturn into the barricade. Raven clotheslines Saturn and delivered another one from the middle rope. Saturn battles back with a series of clotheslines and a superkick. Saturn overhead suplexs Raven for a two count. Terri distracting Saturn to allow Raven to win doesn’t bother me. I can’t remember the last time someone didn’t get an entrance and still won.
Match Rating: *1/2
Tommy Dreamer is eating a bunch of food with three of his friends. Al Snow is annoyed that Dreamer isn’t joining them for an interview. Dreamer heads over toward Al Snow to confront him.
Backstage, Stacy Keibler is talking to Tazz about how Torrie is hairy and ugly while she’s not. Tazz gets pissed off and walks off, but Keibler likes it.
Tommy Dreamer heads over to the commentary station and confronts Al Snow. Dreamer thinks Snow has changed over the years and notes Snow makes little jokes. Dreamer talks about waiting ten years to get a contract, but two kids get a contract handed to them. Dreamer gets distracted by Cole and Snow decks Dreamer.
MAIN EVENT: TAZZ & STACY KEIBLER VS. TAJIRI & TORRIE WILSON
FINISH: Tajiri pins Taz following a kick to the head.
Bob’s Take: Tajiri started off with a kick to knock Tazz down. Tazz tosses Tajiri overhead with a belly to belly suplex. Stacy wanted to tag in to fight Tajiri for some reason, but missed a slap and that brought in Torrie for a catfight. Torrie dropkicks Keibler for a near fall. Tazz hit another nice leg trapped overhead suplex. Tazz gets distracted by Torrie leading to a kick to the head and pin. At least Tazz was able to get a few suplexs in to show that he still has the ability, but the push here is for Tajiri and his new relationship with Torrie.
Match Rating: *
Final Thoughts:
The top rope hurricanrana by Spike is still blowing my mind. There are a couple of good wins on the show (Storm & Raven) for the Alliance. However, the action is very average at best and Tommy Dreamer was a bit of a weak guest, though his confrontation with Snow was okay.
Thanks for reading.
