PN News does a little rap during a montage of all his great moves in the ring! He’ll be facing Mr. Hughes in a “Submit or Surrender” match today? Oh no!

Your host is Tony Schiavone!

  • Van Hammer vs. John Peterson

Hammer’s wearing a Guns ‘n Roses Slash hat out to the ring now. He starts head banging and apparently forgot it was there. Hammer gets kind of a John Cena reaction as the ladies and the kids cheer him, but you can hear the deep-sounding boos coming from the guys. After he hits a powerslam, he starts up the *clap-clap-stomp* thing again. SLINGSHOT SUPLEX wins it. (1:58) Van Hammer goes one-on-one with Cactus Jack at the Clash.

Mr. Hughes and Harley Race interview with Eric Bischoff: Of course, Hughes doesn’t talk because he’s too busy looking angry to say anything, so Race is the mouthpiece. Race discredits PN News and his rap music. When Hughes gets done with PN News, there will be no more ridiculous rap music. I’d like to see Harley in a rap music video sometime. I think that would be the tops.

  • El Gigante vs. Mike Fever

Oh my gosh, Tony tells us that there has been talk of putting Gigante in a tag team with Van Hammer. The most ridiculous fact about that statement is that it ACTUALLY happened. Gigante pounds Fever and gives him the CLAW for the win. (1:46) Luckily, Gigante would disappear from WCW TV by the following spring.

No WCW Top Ten list this week. They’ll have it for us at the Clash.

  • Arn Anderson, Larry Zbyszko & Steve Austin (w/Lady Blossom) vs. Dustin Rhodes, Bobby Eaton & Tom Zenk

Alright! We got some early Dangerous Alliance stuff going on here! Dustin and his friends want revenge on the Enforcers for what they did to Barry Windham at Halloween Havoc, so there’s your story. Rhodes and Anderson start off trading some hammerlocks. Arn buries a knee off a corner charge, but Dustin comes back with a flying clothesline. Arn gets whipped into the face corner for a round of ping-pong. He then slaps Eaton, so Eaton wants a tag. A bunch of headlock sequences lead to Bobby surprising Arn with a right cross, so Arn tags in Austin. Austin BLASTS Bobby with a right hand, so Bobby gets all pissed and fires back with a hard clothesline for two. Tom Zenk gets a tag and that sends Austin retreating to his corner. They run the ropes until Zenk catches Austin with a high crossbody for two. Austin gets away from all that and tags in Larry Z. “Larry sucks!” chants go up immediately. Zenk puts Zbyszko in his corner and tags in Dustin. He gets slapped and then gives chase after Larry around the ring, but it’s just a cool little set-up once they get back in the ring as Arn grabs Dustin from behind for a Larry back kick. Arn then throws Dustin over the top to the floor when the ref wasn’t watching. Just when you think Rhodes might get a short break, Austin runs him down with a clothesline! Back in, Arn is saved from a Rhodes sunset flip as he tags in Larry. Swinging neckbreaker gets two. Austin tags in for a reverse neckbreaker for 1-2-NO! Backdrop gets two, but then he telegraphs another one and gets kicked in the face. Arn tags in and applies a chinlock, but Rhodes elbows out into a sleeper hold. Larry Z comes in to break that up though. Anderson grabs hold of Dustin’s ankle and tags in Austin for a suplex for another two. Arn tags in for the Spinebuster, but doesn’t cover and tags in Austin. What they don’t know is, Dustin’s playing possum and surprises Austin with an inside cradle for 1-2-3! (8:55) Tom Zenk tries to save Dustin from a triple-beatdown, but Bobby doesn’t budge until his reluctance to help out would’ve became noticeable by his partners. Something smells like a heel turn in here. Very awesome stuff for a Worldwide match. ***½

  • WCW World Six-Man Tag Champions The York Foundation (w/Alexandra York) vs. Joey Maggs, Larry Santo & Lynn Fields

Contrary to what you might think, Lynn Fields IS a guy. Morton and Rich are both wearing black leather pants now. The York Foundation take turns dismantling Maggs, Santo and Fields in that order. Morton and Rich dispose of Maggs and Santo so that Taylor can KO Fields with the FIVE-ARM in peace. Morton gives Fields that knee-drop/bulldog move out of the corner and covers for 1-2-3. (4:57) They celebrate now, but the belts would be retired by the end of the month.

Van Hammer interview with Tony Schiavone: By the way, Hammer calls his couple fans “Hammerheads”. He says if Cactus Jack tries to beat him with chairs or whatever, then Cactus is going to get a guitar upside his head.

  • PN News vs. Mr. Hughes (w/Harley Race) – “Submit or Surrender” match

Oh gosh, and there’s ten minutes left in this show. No surprise to me anyways, Hughes attacks at the bell. They do a shoulderblock-off, but then Hughes misses a clothesline and PN News drops him with one of his own. It takes a couple more clotheslines to put Hughes back down, but then he telegraphs a backdrop and pays for it. Hughes SLAMS News and grabs a neck vice. News escapes as we go to an ad break. We come back with Hughes still in control, but News quickly comes back with a clothesline. Now News SLAMS Hughes and hits a corner splash to set up the BROKEN RECORD, but somehow Hughes gets out of the way. YES! Hughes kicks News out to ringside to ram his ribs into the apron and then comes back in for a camel clutch! What? Here comes Steve Armstrong out with a towel around his neck to cheer on News, so Race nails him and throws in his towel to signify News surrendering. (7:25) Armstrong nails Race and complains to the ref, but it doesn’t do any good. Thank you, Harley! Hughes looked okay in there with what he had to deal with, so we’ll give him that much. ½*

The Patriots interview with Eric Bischoff: They’re still the US tag champs, as they wouldn’t lose the belts on TV for another couple weeks. They still want the World tag titles. Keep dreaming, guys. Next week, Firebreaker Chip takes on Larry Zbyszko in the “Submit or Surrender” match! I do have next week’s show.

Before we go, Tony talks with Madusa. She pronounces herself as the “First Lady of WCW”. We’ll be seeing her hanging out with the Dangerous Alliance in the upcoming months.

Final Thoughts: The only shining moment of this week’s show was the big six-man tag match. Outside of Hammer/Cactus, there wasn’t hardly any mention of what would go down at the Clash, which is only four days away.
