World Wrestling Federation presents RAW
Date: 10/23/1995
From: Brandon, Manitoba
Matches:
1.) Owen Hart won a 20-man battle royal to earn a WWF Intercontinental Championship match
2.) Avatar defeated Brian Walsh
3.) Alundra Blayze defeated WWF Women’s Champion Bertha Faye to win the title
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) The final six are Bigelow, Sid, Jannetty, Owen, Jean Pierre Lafitte, Savio Vega and Owen Hart. Bigelow clotheslines Sid over the top to the floor for a rather surprising elimination. Lafitte clotheslined Bam-Bam over the top to the floor to bring us to the final four. Vega avoids a spinning heel kick to nail Owen with one of his own. Jannetty head scissors Vega over the top to the floor and Lafitte gets backdropped over the top to the floor. That leaves us with Marty and Owen. Owen avoids being tossed over the top to the floor. Owen lands on the apron after a clothesline and is nearly punched off the apron. Owen drops Marty throat first across the top rope to save himself and kicks Marty in the head. Marty talks towards Cornette with the tennis racket but the British Bulldog runs out to attack Jannetty and sends him into the ring steps. Owen soon sends Jannetty over the top to the floor to win the battle royal. (NR. The final sequence between Marty and Owen was alright. The interference by Bulldog likely sets up a undercard feud between Jannetty and Bulldog or at least a TV match between the two of them soon. Owen winning the match is probably the best choice.)
2.) Jerry Lawler interviews Owen Hart and Jim Cornette. Owen puts himself over saying he is the cream of the crop and he is going to beat Razor Ramon for the WWF Intercontinental Championship.
3.) This is the debut of Avatar, who was played by Al Snow. After the squash win, Avatar removed the mask he was wearing and it’s just Al Snow.
4.) Blayze regained the championship she had lost at SummerSlam. Late in the match, Blayze head scissored Faye off the middle rope. Faye accidentally knocked Harvey Wippleman off the apron and that allowed Blayze to get a pin with a German suplex.
5.) Jim Ross interviewed Shawn Michaels. Michaels says he never claimed to be the toughest or most popular guy. Michaels isn’t ashamed of being attacked by nine guys in Syracuse. He is really bothered by having to give the championship away to Dean Douglas, who he believes is underrated. Ross mentions that Michaels is teaming with Sid, Bulldog and Ahmed Johnson at Survivor Series. Shawn has some tests to go and hopes to be back in the ring in a week.
Final Thoughts:
RAW wasn’t all that entertaining this week. The battle royal was alright, but it wasn’t worth being on RAW during a time they were fighting for viewers. Next week should be a stronger show.
