World Wrestling Federation presents Superstars
Date: 8/19/1995
From: Portland, ME
Matches:
1.) Razor Ramon defeated Roy Raymond
2.) Eli Brothers defeated Tim McNeany & Paul McDale
3.) Kama defeated Burt Centeno
4.) Fatu defeated Phil Apollo
5.) King Mabel defeated Bam-Bam Bigelow
6.) Bob Holly defeated Jason Ahrndt
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) After his victory, Kama destroys a black wreath that Undertaker’s minions had at ringside. Kama would actually end up attacking the male minion while a female one was upset. The lights would flicker and thunder is heard as if to suggest that the Undertaker was nearby or something.
2.) A vignette promoting the debut of Goldust coming to the WWF is aired. Goldust has his face painted gold and he obsessed with cinema. He is also flamboyant.
3.) The Report Cart segment with Dean Douglas is next and this week his focuses on Shawn Michaels and his match with Jerry Lawler on RAW last week. Douglas says that Michaels was unprepared for his match with Lawler.
4.) Gorilla Monsoon announces that the match between Kama and the Undertaker at SummerSlam will now be a casket match due to what Kama did earlier in the show.
5.) Mabel attacks Bigelow before the bell with some right hands. Mabel knocks Mo off the apron on accident and Bigelow delivers a few clotheslines finally knocking Mabel off his feet. Bigelow continues with a dropkick in the corner. Mabel drops Bigelow with a side slam but only manages a near fall. Bigelow is sent hard back first into the corner and crashes to the canvas. Mabel continues to work over Bigelow choking him over the top rope for a moment. Mabel misses a clothesline and they drop to the canvas following a double clothesline. Mabel splashes Bigelow in the corner and taunts the fans as he maintains control. Bigelow avoids a splash and Mabel crashes to the floor. Bigelow drops Mabel with a kick and knocks Mo off the apron. Bigelow heads to the top rope but botches a head butt and drops to the mat. Mabel hits a belly to belly suplex and wins the match. (1/2*. It’s still a good win for Mabel, but that finish was badly botched by Bigelow there. It’s a shame that Bigelow didn’t get a better push following Mania.)
6.) Next week, Bret Hart squares off against Rad Radford.
Final Thoughts:
While there wasn’t much going on here, it was still a fine episode. I like the idea of Taker/Kama in a casket match as it gives a couple of matches on PPV having stipulations. Anyway, a few feuds were touched on and it didn’t hurt the build to SummerSlam.
Thanks for reading.
