Matches:
1.) Koko B. Ware defeated Moondog Spot
2.) Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff defeated Tito Santana & Pedro Morales
3.) The Islanders defeated Steve Lombardi & Barry O
4.) Jake Roberts defeated Mike Kelly
5.) Jacques & Raymond Rougeau defeated Steve Regal & Jimmy Jack Funk
6.) Paul Orndorff defeated Lanny Poffo
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Butch Reed cut a promo on Koko B. Ware before his match. Reed says that if they don’t fry them, they pluck birds and that Koko should be prepared for that.
2.) WWF Update hosted by Mean Gene focuses on Blackjack Mulligan. He calls out some of the top heels and wants them to come to his ranch to see how hard it is to work there. Mulligan promises to watch the back of Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper. He’s on his way back to the WWF soon.
3.) Santana dropkicks Volkoff during his anthem. Morales goes after Sheik knocking him to the floor and the fans go nuts for that offense. Volkoff collides with Sheik and that knocks Sheik off the apron. Morales punches Volkoff in the midsection and here comes Santana but he gets double teamed as Sheik delivers a kick to the midsection followed by a clothesline for a two count. Morales gets tagged in and decks Sheik with a few strikes and a vertical suplex. Morales drives Sheik down with a backbreaker but the referee, Danny Davis, is distracted by Volkoff. All four men are brawling in the ring as Morales had a Boston Crab on Sheik. Volkoff kicks Pedro and gets the three count. (*1/2. There wasn’t much going on here but it was quick paced and they didn’t linger around. Plus, this cements Danny Davis as a referee who favors heels.)
4.) Jesse Ventura interviewed the WWF Tag Team Champions the British Bulldogs with their mascot Matilda. Davey Boy Smith says that no matter where they go, people will see their mascot. Ventura puts down the dog and hopes the dog is house trained.
5.) Prior to the Islanders match, Tama shared some comments saying he feels great and funky. He’s ready to get down on the island. That was kind of weird.
6.) Roddy Piper had Mr. Fuji on the Piper’s Pit who said that he was the guest whether Piper liked it or not. Fuji says that Piper can’t win with one good leg. Fuji has a bag full of fortune cookies and each one he reads insults Piper. Fuji tosses the cookies into Piper’s face when he’s done reading them. Piper insults Fuji and challenges him to a match next week on TV. Piper agrees to the match and calls Fuji a fat, ugly, slob.
7.) Mike Kelly is once again Shane Douglas before he made it big.
8.) No, it’s not the same Steve Regal that you’re probably thinking of. Dino Bravo shared some comments during the match. Bravo said that he is the only true class wrestler that has come out of Canada and says they make him sick.
9.) Sika and The Wizard at the Samoa is shown where Sika is eating a fish. Wizard says that Sika is going to come in and take out Hulk Hogan, apparently.
10.) Paul Orndorff continues to come out to WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan’s theme music. Hulk Hogan shared a pre-tape comments and says that he doesn’t mind Orndorff telling lies to the fans but it does bother him that he’s using his music! Hogan knows that Orndorff will slip on a banana and he’ll catch him.
Final Thoughts:
There is some quality entertainment on this show, though there are also some weird segments. Piper continues to do some great stuff on TV to advance his feuds. They’re doing a slow build to an actual Piper/Adonis match, which is awesome. I’m interested to see how Piper/Fuji is next week.
Thanks for reading.
