Matches:
1.) Chilly Willy defeated Chris Hamrick
2.) Danny Doring & Roadkill defeated Johnny Swinger & Simon Diamond
3.) ECW World Champion Justin Credible defeated Jerry Lynn to retain the title
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Backstage, Scotty Anton is working out when Cyrus enters the scene. Anton says he’s getting ready for his match, but Cyrus says he doesn’t need to wrestle because Anton has a gimmick now. Anton shows off his gimmick, which is the Clap. That is better known as the American Males clap.
2.) Hamrick attacks Willy from behind and gets the cheap advantage with strikes in the corner. Hamrick nails Willy with a dropkick and taunts the fans. Willy kicks Hamrick and continues with an overhead belly to belly suplex. Willy drops Hamrick with a right hand and stomps on the mat. Willy chops Hamrick against the ropes and connects with a backdrop. Willy arm drags Hamrick to the mat and keeps arm control until Hamrick delivers an eye rake and knee lift to the midsection. Hamrick slams Willy before heading to the top rope and hits a flying leg drop. Hamrick knee strikes Willy and delivers a splash over the middle rope. Hamrick misses a running attack and flies to the floor. That’s the spot he’s known for against 1-2-3 Kid. Willy sends Hamrick back into the ring and is met with a low blow. Hamrick goes to the top rope missing an axe handle. Willy hits a Falcon Arrow for the clean win. (*1/2. Hamrick is a lot of fun to watch and it was neat to see him do the spot he’s known for as a WWF enhancement guy. The action was alright and the crowd seemed to be responding well to Willy.)
3.) Backstage, Johnny Swinger and Simon Diamond walk out of the bathroom and say they will be successful as long as they don’t fight each other. Swinger walks off and Diamond gets annoyed with his entourage fighting over a drinking fountain when there are two fountains.
4.) Doring and Roadkill attack Diamond and Swinger after Diamond said they weren’t cool. Roadkill hits a splash on both men in the corner. Doring dives off Roadkill’s back to the floor. Prodigy low blows Roadkill on the middle rope. Doring hammers away on Swinger with right hands. Swinger connects with a swinging neckbreaker after Doring collided with Musketeer on the apron. Diamond tags into the match and Swinger hits a side Russian leg sweep. Diamond covers Swinger for a two count. Diamond stomps on Doring and hits the Simon Series for a two count. Doring nearly wins with a rollup. Doring hits the Bareback on Diamond and both men are down. Roadkill enters and cleans house with clotheslines. Roadkill side slams Swinger. Roadkill side slams Diamond. Mitch gets involved and Roadkill hits a suplex. Doring delivers a headbutt to Mitch’s groin. Prodigy clotheslines Roadkill and Doring is double teamed. Roadkill comes off the top to clothesline Prodigy and Prodigette. Doring plants Musketeer with a DDT. Swinger whacks Roadkill with a chair from behind. Diamond has Doring on his shoulders and hits a reverse DDT. Roadkill leg drops Diamond for a two count as Swinger makes the save. Roadkill holds Swinger for the Hart Attack clothesline by Doring. Roadkill has Swinger in a wheelbarrow and Doring hits a top rope leg drop for the win. (**. Not a bad match for getting a little bit of time. I’m a little surprised that Swinger and Diamond wouldn’t be given a win in their first showing as a tag team. I think Swinger and Diamond could be a fun heel duo to add depth to the tag division.)
5.) Backstage, Cyrus cuts a promo saying that Sandman is disgusting and is confident that Sandman will not get to the Network. Rhino, the ECW TV Champion, promises to put Sandman’s head through a table just like he did to his wife. Rhino says that Sandman will remember his name.
6.) Backstage, Lou E. Dangerously cuts a promo saying he’s tired of Nova saying he’s a whiner. CW Anderson chimes in and says he’s going to give Chetti a lethal dose of his left fist. Dangerously puts over his dangerous alliance as being a force to be reckoned with.
7.) ECW World Champion Justin Credible cuts a promo saying the fans should feel lucky that a guy like him would even be in their town.
8.) Credible has a wrist lock on Lynn, but they counter hammerlocks. Lynn kicks Credible and tries for a piledriver, but Credible counters. Lynn head scissors Credible and clotheslines Credible over the top to the floor. Lynn sends Credible into the guard railing back first. Lynn rams Credible into the railing and catapults Credible face first into the ring post. Francine distracts Lynn by getting in the ring, but quickly leaves. Lynn returns to the floor and hammers away on Credible some more. Lynn pummels Credible with more right hands. Lynn nails Credible with a kick to the side of the head. Francine jumps on Lynn’s back and is slammed down. Lynn misses a clothesline and Credible connects with a superkick. Credible eye rakes Lynn and delivers a few chops. Lynn responds with chops of his own in the corner. Lynn misses a splash and lands on the middle turnbuckle before crashing to the mat. Credible hammers away on Lynn in the corner and stomps Lynn. Credible pulls Lynn out of the corner with a powerbomb for a near fall. Credible keeps Lynn on the mat with a sleeper. Credible yanks Lynn down by his hair to keep control of the match. Lynn gets a rollup out of the corner for a near fall. Credible plants Lynn with a side slam. Lynn knocks Credible off the apron and connects with a slingshot crossbody to the floor. Lynn kicks Credible in the corner and hits a tornado DDT for a two count. Credible plants Lynn with a reverse DDT. Credible goes under the ring to slide a table into the ring. Credible sets the table up in the corner and tries for a suplex, but Lynn counters. Credible low blows Lynn, but runs into a hip toss through the table in the corner. Lynn covers, but Credible kicks out at two. Francine hits Lynn with a kendo stick and Credible almost wins following a swinging DDT. Lynn dropkicks Credible on the knee and leg drops Credible face first onto a chair for a two count. Lynn sends Credible into the referee and hits a cradle piledriver, but there’s no referee. Lynn blocks a slap from Francine and spanks her. Lynn gets an inside cradle on Credible for a two count. Credible counters a tombstone with the That’s Incredible for the clean win. (**1/4. It’s a good win for Credible since Lynn is coming off a huge win over RVD on PPV. Credible winning cleanly is a major plus, too. Despite being champion, Credible needs a few more of these wins to really solidify himself as a true main event heel champion. This match didn’t feel like it got past first gear, but it was decent anyway.)
9.) Cyrus called into the show and tells Joey Styles that he’ll be taking orders from Jim Ross in a few months. Cyrus says that he determines who wins the matches and he’d never have Lynn win the title on Hardcore TV. (I really hate saying that matches are pre-determined.)
Final Thoughts:
An average episode for ECW this week and I might even say it was a tad disappointing. I was thinking that Lynn vs. Credible was going to be a lot more entertaining than it was, so it was a bummer for the match to an average match that didn’t really get going much. The show isn’t bad overall, but I just had higher expectations. I really didn’t like Cyrus exposing the fact that he controls who wins or loses, even if it creates heat.
