Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Vince McMahon, Hillbilly Jim, Slick, Bobby Heenan and Mr. Perfect are on the panel this week. They discuss the WBF competition.
2.) Santana gains wrist control on Kato and takes Kato down to the mat before Kato goes to the ropes to break the hold. Santana gets a hammerlock, but Kato goes to the ropes quickly. Kato gets control with a shoulder ram in the corner followed by a stomp. Santana misses a strike in the corner and blocks a kick. Santana atomic drops Kato chest first into the corner and continues with right hands. Kato holds onto the ropes, but is decked with a clothesline over the top to the floor. Kato backs Santana into a corner, and delivers a few strikes. Santana avoids Kato in the corner. Santana wrenches Kato on the arm. Santana shoulder blocks Kato and runs the ropes to deliver a stomp to the face. Kato rolls to the floor to regroup. Kato cheap shots Santana in the corner and delivers several stomps. Santana punches Kato several times, but runs into a boot in the corner. Kato thrusts Santana in the corner. Santana drives Kato down to the mat face first. Santana rams Kato into the corner several times face first. Santana delivers a strike to the midsection and hits a flying forearm smash for the win. (1/2*. I dig Santana, but this was pretty boring.)
3.) Berzerker casually tossed Glenn Ruth over the top to the floor and won the match by count-out, his desired way to win matches.
4.) The panel discusses the issue between Savage and Flair. Hillbilly is confident that Savage will keep the WWF World Championship at any cost. Slick chimes in and puts over Savage’s ability to be champion. Perfect believes it is just a matter of time before Flair regains the WWF World Championship. McMahon mentions that the Bible references an eye for an eye. Slick dismisses that and says that good always prevails over evil.
5.) The High Energy match is from April as they aren’t dressed in the same gear, despite them having been shown wearing the same pants. High Energy won following stereo missile dropkicks.
6.) The panel talk about Papa Shango, who recently made an enhancement wrestlers hand catch on fire. Heenan thinks that Slick would know something about voodoo. Heenan still doesn’t want to discuss the black magic that Shango has displayed. Hillbilly thinks that Warrior could prevail over the black magic. Slick provides his expert opinion, but he says he’s at a loss.
7.) Mean Gene conducted an interview with Sgt. Slaughter on the podium. Gene talks about Mountie using the shock stick on Slaughter. Slaughter calls Mountie a maggot. Slaughter says that Mountie purposely tried to injure him with the shock stick and tried to put Slaughter out of professional wrestling. Slaughter says that Mountie tried to end him, but he didn’t succeed. Slaughter says he’s a survivor and he’ll always be a survivor. Slaughter wears his uniform proudly and says that Mountie is a disgrace to the uniform to his country. Slaughter tells Mountie that he better be prepared because the next time he gets Mountie on the battleground he’s going to hit Mountie with a Slaughter cannon and put Mountie in the cobra clutch. Slaughter is going to squeeze until they no longer hear Mountie scream “I’m the Mountie.” Instead, we’re going to hear Mountie scream “I want my mommy.” Slaughter doesn’t take any prisoners and that’s an order.
8.) The panel discusses Crush and how he’s been crushing things since a young age. Jim would love to have Crush help him on the farm. McMahon notes that Crush shows great sportsmanship after his victories.
9.) Blake and Powers kickoff the tag match with Blake delivering a few strikes. Powers hip tosses Blake coming off the ropes and follows up with a clothesline. Powers elbows Beau over the shoulder and tags in Brunzell. Brunzell runs the ropes and head scissors Beau to the mat. Blake returns to the match and Brunzell is dropped throat first over the top rope. Blake chokes Brunzell on the mat for a moment. Blake continues with a few elbow drops. Brunzell hits a crossbody off the ropes for a two count on Blake. Blake drops Brunzell with a neckbreaker for a two count. Blake decks Powers off the apron and Beau enters the match. Beau leaps over Blake’s back to splash onto Brunzell’s back. Beau rams Brunzell into the corner and leaps off the middle rope to hit a neck snap. Blake tags back into the match and splashes down onto Brunzell’s back. Beau returns to the match and stomps Brunzell several times. Beau leaps off the ropes to axe handle Brunzell over the ropes. Beau hits a double under hook suplex and delivers a knee drop. Brunzell fights back with right hands, but Beau backs Brunzell into a corner to keep control. Blake tags back into the match and keeps a sleeper on Brunzell. Brunzell breaks free, but is met with a knee strike to the midsection. Blake drops Brunzell over the top rope throat first to maintain the advantage. Beau tags into the match and beats on Brunzell with right hands. Beau misses a splash in the corner. Brunzell connects with a dropkick and both men are down. Blake and Powers get the hot tags. Powers delivers a flurry of strikes and rams Blake into the corner several times. Powers sends Blake into the corner and hits a backdrop. Powers connects with a knee lift and a dropkick, but Blake makes the save. All four men are in the ring, but the referee stops Brunzell. Beau helps Blake land onto Powers and the Beverly’s steal a victory. (**. It’s an extended squash, but fine for what it was. Powers and Brunzell played their role fairly well. The Beverly’s are a good team, but they’re never going to get the proper shine and losing to LOD every night isn’t going to help matters.)
10.) The panel discuss the Beverly Brothers and Mr. Perfect thinks they are in a good spot because The Genius is in their corner.
11.) The panel discuss WBF and Vince notes that Jane Fonda will be on Bodystars. Fonda is married to Ted Turner, which McMahon notes. Heenan says he knows Ted Turner’s sister, Stomach. She’s a real stomach turner. I chuckled at that.
12.) The panel discuss the Undertaker. Slick says he’d rather be friends with Undertaker. Heenan says that Slick would take the gold out of dead peoples mouth.
Final Thoughts:
Heenan had some quality one-liners throughout the show, but this is a underwhelming episode of Primetime. I think we’re reaching a lull on TV before we get to SummerSlam.
Thanks for reading.
